Get the low down on Griz Football and the FCS

Postby grizpack on Sat Dec 03, 2005 11:58 am

Well, whoever it was, that would explain the GrizVision being on after the basketball game. I was told by an assistant coach that there was a "big" recruit in.

I don't think it could be Leaf, as it is my understanding the coaches can't make contact until the player gets a release. Maybe the coaches can't initiate the contact?

Swogger would be a huge pickup because we dont have a PROVEN QB right now. Why would u want to go to YSU?

I don't see Swogger coming to the Griz

1. It's been well pointed out that the Griz have enough QB's and if Swogger if offered a scholie, then it states that rumors have not been true about Stapp being a great prospect.

2. It not only kills the confidence in Washington, it also could do damage to Cole. It's growing pains and these guys will be fine if left on their own.

3. Swogger will be what a junior....so it's an Ochs situation all over again? It takes the guy a year to learn the offense like it did Ochs (granted Ochs had some injuries).

4. If Brady is looking at the Griz, which I highly doubt, given the high praise he has received at UO when he does play, that is not a quick fix for the Griz.

Andrew Selle is a huge get there is no doubt. The Griz have been blessed for many years not needing another "Dave Dickenson" type situation, if you know the history, you'll know what I'm talking about.

There are 12 scholies with only 5 being offered next year. I see every one of these being as valuable as a Platinum card at the Cesar's Palace shops. Come on guys, it's common sense. If I was the kid, I would take a serious look home. Old friends and family are a huge attraction that can watch you week in and week out. I think we are puffing our chests out a little too much here. If it happens, great we go from there. Because then he becomes our automatic starter.

I think the Chamber's kid (rumor) is legit. That could be a huge get. We really need a proven receiver for next year. Bag's is starting to come around, though still has on and off games. The RB's will be stacked with Lex, Brady, and my boy from whitefish (if he can recover from his surgeries).

Just one more thing....I have about as good of a chance of hooking up with a playmate as Grady Bennett does at being our "high school" transfer Offensive Coordinator"....Jeebus, give me a break. The guy has been a head coach for one season. That's like saying just because Jim Street is back (thank god he is), that he is going to leave Butte High to coach Oklahoma State next year.

One factor though, that trumps all others.
I think his wife is attending school in Pullman.

Youngstown is not only your typical rust bucket town where industry got up and left, it also has a bad rep as a mafia type place. Very unsavory. Why Swogger would want to pass up playing out west for Youngstaown is hard to gigure - unless you have family there.

Excuse Me..
What's thats supposed to mean. The 4 National Titles; The 22,000 Seat Stadium; the tradition and Youngstown!

1. Its his hometown
2. He played at the Ice Castle while in High School when they won the State Championship.
3. YSU is loaded on transfers next year; 3 of which are Swogger's former High School Teammates.

Again I talk to him on a weekly basis and I'd be shocked to see him go there. He told me "I want to come home and YSU is my favorite."

If that's the case why did he go to Wazzo? J/K. I agree, I think the kid is Ohio bound.

YSU is a great program with a great history and you guys are located in the middle of a recruiting hot bed. I personally feel they deserved to be in the playoffs this year. I wouldnt mind seeing Swogger with the Griz, but if not I wish him well as YSU. Just as long as he does not go to Bozo u.

The dude has a cannon for an arm, but that cannon often hits the wrong guy, too. Having seen Swogger play live, I'd have to say he isn't what the Griz need. I'm not saying he's terrible, just that he might pull the trigger at the wrong time in the coach Phen pick-a-play offense.

If he stays in the West, my bet is he heads to EWU. Wulff has great connections with WSU and Eastern is a short drive to Pullman, which is where Josh's wife will be attending school next year. Missoula, on the otherhand, is a long-assed ways away from Pullman.

The big recruit that was in twon was not Swogger, a friend of mine met him down town last night. He was with JR waller and his name was Reggie something. JR indicated that this kid is an RB and he said that "Reggie is going to be his replacement." Sorry to be vague , but this is all that I know. Waller also said that this kid is the biggest recruit of the season...Any ideas on a last name?

Grady has been a head coach for more than 1 year, not that it matters.

I'm sorry we don't really need a running back. We need WR's and someone that can get the dang ball to them.

Derrick Nealy is pickin' Cal Poly apart. Take a lesson from that Coach.

I hate to see this, but I know it's the trend. We are now basing the "next year" for many teams not on talent from high school, but from drop downs. We have become the fallback division of college football.

As a Bobcat fan, I personally hope Swogger does not go to MSU (but I have no information either way, and I won't pretend that I do). I'd rather see how our QBs can do that have been in the program, which will in turn put some faith in recruits that they won't get pushed aside every time a I-A QB gets too little love at his first choice.

If they changed the rules to make transfers to I-AA the same as I-A (sit out a season), I would love it.

Interesting. Without betraying any confidential info that he may have told you, can you tell us how he will manage the marital situation? Will she follow him to YSU or will they do the long distance thing for a year? Eastern Washington makes the most sense from that angle - it's very close and would disrupt his private life the least. EWU is also losing a damn good QB to graduation and could probably use a guy like him.

Also, what does he major in?

Regardless, we'd love to host a UM/YSU playoff game next year.

I have heard the rumor that Johnny Durocher is back in the mix for Montana. He and Chambers are pretty good friends, and are thinking of both transferring.

Losing Meyer, 3 starting receivers, and a T.E. to graduation, I'd just as soon see us give Peerboom (meyer's backup) a chance and/or develop from within. Just thinking long term.

With all the transfers, YSU sounds more like a junior hockey league team than a college football program.
