Wow I am impressed about as much as Bob Holiday was. Its still the same staduims, and just because the seating has doubled, should I really get overly impressed. The attitude that Bob alluded to in his post on Bison-Insider is right on with some Grizz fans on this board and that is "Im better than you". We will see as time goes on. 8)

If you were here in ’93, and think your facilities are on par with what you saw at UM then…….well you are about $40,000,000 behind. And that is not an “I’m better than you,” That is a fact. UM’s facilities are light-years ahead of where they were in ’93.

We are not saying that we have nicer facilities than the big 1-A schools……heck, here at LSU, I’m sure that the football PRACTICE field is way nicer than your football stadium, and cost way more to build. What we are claiming is that we have top notch, if not the best, facilities in the nation at the 1-AA level.

Having said that, when I look at SDSU’s facilities, I think y’all are set up real nice for 1-AA. Heck, you have better facilities than EWU. I think you would be rated somewhere near the middle to upper half of 1-AA schools as is. I think that NDSU has nicer facilities than yours though. But the true is that your facilities are not in the same ballpark as ours. (Punny.) Its called reality, I don’t think UM is set up as nice as LSU…..but I do think that UM is top notch at the 1-AA level….. If it were not so, would I not say so?

I just wish the Big Sky would give SDSU and NDSU a chance to prove what they can do to improve the conference. There is this notion that the Dakotas schools would cheapen the Big Sky and travel is too costly. How about a trip to Flagstaff that cant be cheap or handy since you bus from Phoenix to Flagstaff, in which the bus ride will give you bleacher butt. We could not fail any worse than Cal-State North Ridge, Portland State.

Sacremento State and Northern Arizonia are hardly the bell cows of the Big Sky. I got the feeling that U OF Montana wants things just as they are now in order to appease 23000 fans or what ever the number.

I think that you will find that it was SAC St. and PSU who really didn't want NDSU and SDSU in the Big Sky Conference. They gave the excuse of cost of travel. From anything that I have heard, Montana would like to have our ND and SD neighbors come play with us.

GGG,

This is far from smack. It's opinions being voiced, some ancient. But I don't see any stupid ranting or name calling.

Seeing how dead and boring this board is during the off season this is one of the hotter topics and livens up a pretty much dead board.

Anybody got any new news on transfers or ANYTHING! Please!

Thanks for not booing. Go Griz! Carpe Diem!

First of all..who the heck is this clown Bob Holiday, and where is he getting his information....from a message boards or something. He doesn't site where Griz fans or Missoula residents have said anything about UND for one thing. If, in fact, his source is a message board, then he should be clued into what message boards are all about. And he should show himself in said message board to make his counter point.

I particularily like the way he started the "article"; sliding in the fact that he was going to a movie premier (wow, that must mean this guy is quite a player). Oh wait it's HIS son's movie premier..that fits right in with the point of the article doesn't it. I'll cut him a break on this one, since we all like to talk about our kids, and I may have done the same. And it not like he is a "real" writer who is writing about news worthy topics. His "article" basically boils down to being a glorified message board post, so I won't quible about his form.

It's obvious that his guy just plain doesn't like Montana or the Griz. Which is A-OK in my book. His opinion is that we live in a "godforsaken" place with a quansit for an arena, and a small bleachered bowl to play our little football games in.

Nearly everyone else who has ever come to Washington-Grizzly stadium for a game, has a different opinion. Including Toni Moss, who has seen more 1-AA stadiums than anyone of us, I'm sure.

I could go on, but I think I've wasted enough time with this clown. But I will say this, since Bob seems to get his information from message boards, probably Jayson Blair style (New York Times), I would like to invite him on over to discuss his points on eGriz.

This JBB, what an NDSU POW. He agrees with NDSUs own Bob Holiday on the premise of Missoula/Griz arrogance, gets chastised by Griz fans, and then blames me for the whole Bob Holiday article. Talk about spinning in overdrive, this JBB must be a regular loon.

He just serves as a prime example of certain NDSU fans; who include a disproportional share of irrational drunks with tempers. In hockey, UND has a rivalry with Wisconsin. The Wisconsin fans are great in comparison, because they are good-natured, love the game atmosphere, and some will even party with rival fans after losing a game!

As far as UND going Div I, its probably just a matter of time, as we are fortunate to have great Div I facilities:

The UND leadership is probably not going to go around and beg for Div I conference membership. Their style is much more to make a deal behind the scenes. I am sure the Big Sky athletic directors and commisioners are aware of the facilities and support that UND has. If the Big Sky really did want to add schools to the east, I would be surprised if they did not approach UND behind the scenes, and then announce a deal.

This reekes of hypocracy. We go from not having facilities that are better than most schools in the NCC to cutting "back door" deals with other schools in the conference. Am I not the only one to see the flaw in the logic here?

If this were any other type of board, I would agree 100 proof grizzly. But, this is a "smack" board and there is no such thing as logic and hypocracy, just plain ole down in the muck smack. Personally I think that adding SDSU and NDSU in a couple of years would not hurt the BSC in the least. Our Western friends (PSU & SAC St) would disagree because of travel costs I am sure. The past has proven that NDSU in particular have been a bee in U of M's bonnet more than once.

I for one believe North Dakota State and North Dakota have beautiful facilities and we should bring those two and they're great rivalry to the Big Sky. It's reminds me of UM and MSU. They truly hate each other. It would be great to have another rivalry like that in the Sky!

They could average 15-18,000 for football.

So what we do is let NDSU go to the GWC with N. Colorado and SDSU. Then in a couple years when ND decides to go D1 we invite them and NDSU to the Sky to renew their rivalry.

I would like to see UND and NDSU admitted to the BSC too. I too agree that they have some nice facilities, not that that is a big considerations for me. They are really like the Montana schools in that they are pretty much the only game in town. No big schools, no pro teams...which translates to a lot of fan support and attendence. I have nothing against Sac or PSU, and have no desire to see them leave the BSC either.

I either forgot or never really knew. What is the status of NDSU, I take it you are conferenceless. What about UND. They haven't moved up yet right?

It looks now that NDSU, SDSU, UNC, Southern Utah, Cal-Davis, Cal-Poly, and St. Marys may form a new football only conference. Here is a link anouther Bison fan created that has information on the proposed conference...

http://www.freewebs.com/great_western_conf/index.htm

The name Great West has been kicked around on some of the boards. This is NDSU's last year at D2 (it is called the "exploratory year"). Next year NDSU will begin its first full year as D1AA and will no longer be elegible for the D2 title as we are this year.

As for UND. They are very envious that NDSU had the guts to make the jump to D1. UND is very paranoid about this move and did not dare to make the jump as it may threaten the financial soundness of thier D1 hockey program (which is one of the best in the nation). All other sports play second fiddle to hockey at UND. My guess is that in the end UND will be forced to move up or else they will fall into obscurity in the ND sports scene as they will be still playing at the D2 level.

And....as you picked up from the posts....We hate them and they hate us. Also, some of the UND fans are pretty classless with thier posts here. I am not even sure why we are discussing this on a Montana board. Here are some links to three boards that you can read up on this debate and the hatred between the two schools.

UND has way better facilities than SDSU IMHO......you can check them for yourselves and come to your own verdict. UND is not going 1-AA though....atleast not right now.

I wish we could get UND and NDSU and leave SDSU and SDU to there own devices. Dump Portland and Sac.....

I would have to disagree. SDSU has plans (not just plans, the money has already been raised) for an addition to Couglin Alumni Stadium (skyboxes, vid boards, etc.) that will make it a superior facility to UND. That being said UND has made it clear that they don't want to leave D II. I agree that Portland State and Sac. State should go, however you should want SDSU and NDSU to join the Big Sky. They will bring two well run, well funded, and well supported schools into an already strong conf. Making it even stronger.

Go Jackrabbits!

GeauxGriz,

You must be talking about the Sioux's uniforms, right? With SDSU and NDSU you get a little color variety Blue and Yellow and Green and Yellow respectively. Rather then UND's blah Green and White. Griz, good luck on you upcoming season and hope to see you soon.

Go Jackrabbits!

Another option that the Big Sky could do is add SDSU, NDSU, UNC, and either Davis our Southern Utah go with a 12 team conf. and split it into a East/West div. This would allow for easier travel. Just an idea.

Go State!

Now there you go ... I think that is one hell of an idea. Why can't these commissioners and university presidents come up with an idea like that and make it work. That would be a great time. Only one problem would be the timing of a divisional playoff to pick the automatic seed in the Nat'l playoffs. We wouldn't want to get into a situation like the SWAC has. #cry

That 12 Team Sky, East and West Divisions sounds like a terrific idea to me. Each team plays a game against the other 5 teams in their Division each year and three teams from the other Division on a rotating basis. That's eight league games and leaves 4 non-league game openings.

Also the Big Sky would get three bids to the playoffs. The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place teams. The A10 with 11 teams gets three.

East

Montana
Montana State
Idaho State
Weber State
North Dakota State
South Dakota State

West

Portland State
Sacramento St.
Northern Colorado
UC Davis
Northern Arizona
Eastern Washington
