I have always said my top pick for a conference for NDSU was the Big Sky. I think it is the best fit for NDSU and for the Big Sky. We have much that we could contribute to the Big Sky. I hope it happens in the future, but right now I would guess that PSU, Sac State and NAU are the show stoppers. Maybe the 2 divisions in the conference would get rid of some of thier opposition to our joining the Big Sky.
I hate that idea. Anymore than 9 teams, and then you can't play every team in the same year. If there were two divisions, there couldn't be a conference championship before the playoffs unless every team sacrificed their bye week. Most importantly, there aren't 12 good schools for the Big Sky. We have to draw the line somewhere. It was bad enough when we had Northridge. And what about I-A schools that could end up in I-AA in a few years? If our conference already has 12 teams, we couldn't expand and bring in better schools than the ones we have.

That 12 Team Sky, East and West Divisions sounds like a terrific idea to me. Each team plays a game against the other 5 teams in their Division each year and three teams from the other Division on a rotating basis. That's eight league games and leaves 4 non-league game openings.
Also the Big Sky would get three bids to the playoffs. The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place teams. The A10 with 11 teams gets three.

I think they'd be S.O.L. Hey, Geaux they could join the Southland. They play a bunch of Lousiana and Texas schools now. And the Southland needs to expand.
