The report is the result of a Republican 11-member House select panel that investigated the response to Katrina at all levels -- local, state and federal.
A staff member of the committee provided the excerpts, insisting on anonymity because the report will not be released until Wednesday.
U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Connecticut, a committee member, said Monday that the report is "very tough on the president, it's very tough on the Department of Homeland Security. It's a blistering report. But I think it's fair."
The panel found that Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff was "detached" and that then-Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown was "clueless," Shays said.

This must be all lies, look who created the report.
And there's this;
Quote:
The Democratic leadership refused to participate in the House panel, arguing it would be a whitewash for the White House and promptly took their ball and went home vowing they weren't going to play any more if the Reps would not let them win..
I'd rather be fishing.

So... you believe Republicans only sometimes? I thought they were all liars and have "sold out to big corporations". Eh? Which is it?
First of all this was a LOCAL government failure and not national. The hurricanes like Andrew and Ivan etc. never got all this attention and finger pointing.
Secondly why should we believe all the republicans that lie and distort facts on this panel. Now I am confused Re/Max? Do we only believe the republicans when they help your agenda?
The only reason this is happening now is purely for political purposes. the left is trying ever so desperately to hang on to the black vote. We tried to help remember and they shot back at the people trying to help. We lost 1300+ people there in a couple days. Half of what we lost in 4 years of a certain war. They have to paint the picture of the Right trying to kill, kick, and beat the poor down to keep power. Once again if this happened in a mixed area or white area it wouldn't be on TV 3 days after the event started.
2-3 weeks ago I watched a white guy evading police in a high speed chase get beat WORSE than Rodney King ever dreamed. Nightsticks to the head, kicks and numerous punches to the head and not one word on any network. The 5th cop was actually telling the other cops to stop and pointing to the helicopter that was video taping the whole incident yelling that they were being put on TV. Where is your outrage? I posted this in a thread on here the day it happened and not one response. Don't tell me there isn't media bias on issues like this.
Wow, I guess with statements in other posts I'm branded as blaming this on Republicans
Ok, I posted the link and an excerpt from it opinion free, I don't blame big business or Republicans for this, it was a failure on all 3 levels, none of which did a very good job to help in any way.
Ursus, I believe this report CNN is talking about is an 11 member Republican committee, not the Democrat fact finding crew.
I do believe Republicans sometimes, I'm married into a family of them, and I have friends & coworkers who vote Republican as well. I don't believe much of what Bush & Co have to say, and I don't like how the Reps just nod their heads when Bush speaks, does that help clear things up PZ?
