I live about 10 hours away from New Orleans and have seen what a democratic country would look like. The dems have been in control for 40 years in New Orleans and...

THAT CITY WAS A PEACE OF CRAP BEFORE THE HURRICANES!!!!

Most of the people that got moved into East Texas refuse to find jobs and refuse to go back. Its a whole lot easier to just sit around and get paid to do NOTHING.

I feel for what they went through but there comes a time to step up and get off your ass. ITS BEEN 6 months!! The businesses in New Orleans are screaming for people to work for 15.00/hour and cant get people to come home and GET PAID to clean up!!! believe it or not FEMA has empty trailers for workers that are not being used.

The thing that really ticks me off is they are constantly asking why they dont get more!!! More precisley, bitching about not getting more then $2500.00 per month. Most Montanans would love to EARN that each month.

Its truly sad, but its what they expect from 40 years of democrat control.

The other night on Wolf Blitzers show on CNN there was a story about the unused mobile homes. They had a few people bitching that they didn't want to live in them because they didn't have microwaves.

Only in the land of the richest poor in the world, can a person complain about something like that. Those people need to be cut off permanently from all assistance. They are ungrateful SOB's and I wish there was a way to not help them, I would sign up.

yes... to further illustrate your great point Alpha... a few years ago there was a non-profit who admirably collected used items for underpriviledged/poor in their communities (something like Goodwill or Salvation Army). Anyway... they came out and said they would no longer accept donations of USED items because it made their "clients" feel poor. Rather, they would only accept BRAND NEW appliances, furniture, clothing, etc. so their "clients" wouldn't feel poor.

Yes... that summarizes the state of poverty in this country. People can have access to food, basic medical care, shelter, running water and own vehicles, TV's, cell phones, and lots of other electronic devices... and be considered IMPOVERISHED! If you dispute this, travel to foreign countries and you'll see what poverty truly is. #shocked

I believe it is this basic "poor mentality" that is starting to cause many Americans to be fed-up with Katrina whinning and start to turn a deaf ear to some of their plight.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Because there are no other factors that have contributed to the problems there. Why I'll bet if Republicans had been in control, Katrina would've been thwarted on the strength of their kick-ass governance alone- like it happened in Mississippi. And we all know how successful those red states are when it comes education, infrastructure, production, and lack of poverty. #thumb

I know it's tough for you guys to look at the world in any way other than black and white, and you want simple answers to everything, but some occurrences are too complex to conveniently package blame like you want to.

That being said, I think Louisiana's Gov, Mayor Nagen, and the Bush administration all end up looking like horses asses in this one. But your sorely mistaken if you try to blame poverty on the dem's here.

BTW, I don't see you guys as vocal about the wealthy who also suck money from the treasury in the form of corporate welfare and subsidies. They're even bigger whores, but also probably republican which I guess makes it ok in your book. #thumb

I love how we are spending tons of $$ to refurbish the Super Dome so that the Saints can come back and play in a city that doesn't have the population to suport an NFL franchise. The owner of the franchise want to move but the NFL has bowed to political pressure and forbid a move. With all of the infrastructure issues that the city faces, we spend money on leisure.

Don't forget that besides the people not wanting to work, they used the credit cards issued to them for tattoo's, strip clubs and other fun activities.

But simply misplacing hundreds of Billions of dollars in Iraq, (a place where a majority of its citizens have reported that they want occupying forces out), is totally cool.

The N.O. thing is a mess, unused trailors, people using their relief money for tattoos and what not, and the amount of funds being dumped into the superdome, but aren't you guys outraged as well about whats going on in regards to what has been "lost" financially in Iraq?

But its a related question. You're so pissed about the way our tax dollars are being misused in New Orleans aren't you equally (if not more) upset about so much more going to waste in Iraq? That was the question.

first off.. Re/Max... this is an apple and orange debate. Of course "we" are upset about any funds that are being wasted or misused. That's a given. These are two entirely different situations and while we can more easily witness and hear (and better trust?) the accounts coming from New Orleans and their misuse of funds, I believe the jury is still "out" on the Iraq issue. Yes... I pray that all of the funds are being used wisely... however, this is a war and we are dealing with "scoundrels" trying to get to bigger "scoundrels". Time will tell just how affective this whole campaign is... it's a war and it ain't pretty.

The difference to me is this. I know what I am going to get when I piss away money in New Orleans. They will cry and whine at any price tag, no amount we spend will be enough. They have a victims mentality there and will never be happy with any out come. We have the perfect opportunity to break a large portion of American people, from the mindset that the government takes care of you. If they were smart they would quit bitching and take the initiative to improve their life right now while there is a great opportunity to do so.

The money we spend in Iraq is investing in our future. Sure nobody knows for sure if it is going to pay off, but we have to take that chance and try. The Iraqi's are not complaining about all the help we have sent them, and at least the are working with us instead of watching us work.

So let me get this straight

Poor, mostly minorities living in the USA - Forget them
Poor, Arab people living outside of the USA - dump cash all over them.

Got it.

Look the New Orleans thing is a mess, I'll admit that. I'm not blind, I see the disorganization, the terrible spending, and poor planning. The mayor is a dink, and says dumb things on a daily basis. It's a complete mess. But so is Iraq, but that's totally cool with you guys, "it's war."

Thank you for giving me a peek into the conservative mind.

I think we would be pissed if we gave government credit cards to Iraqi people who in turn used them for "Amatuer Night at Abu Graib". As much as I don't favor welfare, I would not have such a problem if the so called "poor without a voice" tried to better themselves. Many poor people in this country feel that they can't work fast food. If fast food is hiring and they need a job they need to take it. The people who lose their job and just say, "I will just live off the government", piss us off. Iraqis were being killed for their beliefs so in my mind that is genocide. To bring Hussein out of power and to bring these people a freedom of religion and beliefs is cool with some of us. Giving aid to end genocide in the Sudan is cool with me. A president we had ten years ago not giving a shit about the genocide in Rwanda is not cool with me. To sum it up I am for helping those who have no help. I am not for helping those who take advantage of it time after time after time after time.

kalm,

You seem to imply the republicans are just filthy rich. I think your eyes need to be opened up:

When the latest Congressional wealth figures came out last week, we learned that no fewer than 40 U.S. Senators are millionaires. But more intriguing is the fact that the richest among them are all liberals.

The richest Senators are nearly all Democrats, and most of those can be found on the party's furthest left reaches. The seven Democrats worth more than $10 million include legendary liberal Ted Kennedy ($10.2), trial lawyer John Edwards ($13.6), national-health care proponents Jay Rockefeller ($82.1) and Jon Corzine ($93.5) and the richest of them all, John Kerry ($139.7) of Massachusetts, the Sierra Club's poster politician. The richest Republican by far is Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island ($53.6), who is also by far the most liberal GOP Senator

GB1 don't bring that up.................. everyone knows only the republicans are rich and kill people! I can't believe your so insensitive towards liberals and are trying to shed some light on the stereotype the left has worked so hard to get out there.

Not all republicans are rich, but they certainly suck up to the wealthy a lot more than the Dems
