Mateo out for the year...

Postby GrizBiz on Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:19 am

Not huge news but I did find this comment from Jeff at LookoutLanding pretty damn amusing:

The highlight was hearing Dave deliver the "bad news" that Julio Mateo broke his left hand and would be out for the rest of the season, which is bad news in the way that watching Sportscenter in my living with Heidi Klum and finding out that she's capable of picking up the remote control with her feet is bad news. Losing Mateo's rubber arm is about as inconveniencing as having to wipe foot grease off the remote before you use it, but your brain can't even conceive of the situation's potential upside.

LookoutLanding - best humor of any M's website out there.

Quality, only theres one bad thing, he probably won't get traded b/c they'll want to bring him back and "see how he'll do."

Speaking of M's relief pitching, what an ugly deal that was tonight with Soriano getting hit in the head. And from a Vlad shot, as well. I hope and pray he's fine.

Did you hear the sound the ball made when it bounced off his skull? It about made me vomit.

Yes, I was sitting in Suite 31 last night when that happened. The sound it made coming off his skull was louder than the sound of the ball coming off the bat. It ricocheted almost all the way to the dugout

So, I need some reporting from someone with their feet on the ground in Safeco.

I know how the message board geeks feel about Snelling but how do the average fans in the ball park like him? Have they realized just what he is yet? Do they know what a healthy Chris Snelling represents to the franchise?

I believe that people do realize that he's the man. Last night certainly went a long way towards making that case. The buzz around him is growing for sure - my barometer for things like that are the guys on 950 KJR and he's been getting some love there, that's for sure.

Also, Softy said this morning that Hargrove is 95% a lock to be back for next year.

Softy also thinks that Bloomquist should be a starter. Softy = dumb-ass.

The man-love that the M's coaches and broadcasters have for Bloomquist baffles me. He's a useful player but he is what he is - a .250 hitter with no power and no plate discipline that runs the bases well and plays average defense at multiple positions. A useful player, no doubt, but hardly one that deserves all of those Rick Rizzs' "Holy Cow, WILLY BLOOMQUIST!!! with a base hit" on every 125' blooper into the outfield.
