last year for Ron Fairly

Postby Grizbeer on Fri Sep 22, 2006 12:04 pm

Fairly announced this will be his last season broadcasting, thank god. He is without doubt the worst color man in M's broadcast history. I cringe when I hear him do the pre-game show, or when they turn the mic over to him for occasional play by play. He continually got the plays or players wrong, injected his history with the Dodgers into everything, and would just repeat what the announcer he was working with just said.

Have a good retirement Fairly, but don't come back.

Worse than Dave "me, me, I, I, me, me...enough about the game, how let's talk about me some more" Henderson? Worse than Dave "Willy Bloomquist gives me wood" Valle?

I have lost all respect for your judgement, GrizBeer. Of the three M's color guys, Fairly was clearly the best. That's not to say that he was good, mind you, but compared to those two yahoos dead air would sound good.

I hope they talk Levine back into the booth. The writing gig on Frasier was so long ago, maybe they can get him back. That dude was good.

Chip Carrey was funny too, although without Fairly to egg on I'm not sure what he would do.

Now if they would can Rick "Mr. Syrup" Rizzs and bring up Curto from Tacoma - that would be something to celebrate.

GBiz you sound like my father-in-law, he hates all announcers! I like Rizz, Valle and Hendo, at least they call the game correctly (and how could you not love the fact that Hendo sounded white and Valle sounded black?). Fairly is the Benny Parsons of baseball, a mush-mouth moron who spent 1/2 his time stating the obvious - I think he honestly believed he was saying something profound with statements like "if the Mariners can just score more runs than the other team they might have a chance to win this game", and the other 1/2 saying things that were just wrong - wrong play, wrong player. I won't miss him a bit.

I like this guy:

That's the single best inning of baseball ever called by an announcer.

"He (Jiminez) threw a one hitter in the minors this year, which is really close to a no hitter," Hendu, 9/25/06 pre-game show.

I am glad to see Ron Fairley leave. He can take Rick Rizz with him as far as I am concerned. I just hope they don't hire Jay Buhner, they have tried him in the past and if you think Ron Fairley is bad Buhner is really pathetic.
