Its easy for you guys (me too) to sit up here in Montana and criticize folks coming from much tougher situations than us.
Truth is you are afraid of these people. If you saw a group of guys walking down the street sporting "thug" gear, you would cross the street so as not to cross paths.
But here is a good question to you "thug" haters who claim race isn't a point - do you cross the street if the guys are white dressed exactly the same way?
Picture a "thug" in your head... what race is he?
I think you all know the answers, whether you will admit them or not.
Most Montanans are ignorant, but it isn't because they are inherently bad people. Most of us grew up with probably about 90% whites. It is something we (Montanans) can get uncomfortable with because it is simply outside our norms.
Hell, just the other day I had a relative tell me "That's what Kramer gets from recruiting black players from the inner city"... I couldn't believe he said that.
What is your point?
If a group of white guys in hunting gear were walking down the street, do you think a black guy wouldn't "cross the street" to avoid them?
So who is really ignorant.................you for making that claim?
I'm not agreeing with any particular point of view here but I will say that your exposure to the U through your Dad is FAR different from the "average" Montanans. Missoula itself is really a lot different than most other Montana communities, even the bigger cities; the U just naturally changes the cultural environment.
I grew up in Polson, just 60 miles away and I can tell you I doubt that I saw 5 African-Americans there in my 10+ years.
While I don't agree that lack of experience with diversity automatically makes you racist, I do believe that most Montanans have very little direct experience with cultures outside their own...
First when I see a group of thugs walking down the street I go out of my way to plow right throught them, so the don't think everyne is affraid of their baggy pants.
The ignorant Montana thing doesn't fly either. Sure many of us grew up around a majority of whites, but then we left the state for college, work etc and got robbed, shot and beat up by people of certain races. We then come back to Montana and know what the rest of the country already knows.
So when a large % of crime is committed by a certain demographic, is it racist to point that out?
When dog fighting was almost wiped out of the country 20 years ago and a certain demograpic has it springing up all over the country, is it racist to point that out?
I say no and people of all colors should be accountable for their actions. Now swing away on the economic factors, poverty and other excuses levied to make people feel better about themselves.
Has alpha garnered the EGriz most racist/close-minded award yet? Truly ignorant. It's a shame you had to grow up with beliefs like that and share them with other people.
It's pretty obvious you've never had close association with people of other races and opened your mind to the fact they might not be bad people.
Just wondering, what demographic you are talking about in your post when you are refering to a "certain demographic." The hiphop image people on here talk about would be refering to black people. Take a look at the FBI fugitive lists. The large majority of those people are white, not black.
It always amazes me when people like you think people wearing baggy pants are thugs. It's just how they dress, it doesn't mean they are thugs or criminals. People in inner-cities, and/or who follow the rap lifestyle dress certain ways, just like farmers in Iowa dress another way. Doesn't mean one group of people are better or worse then the other. It's just a way of dressing.
Rap/hip-hop music speaks to the way kids in cities grow up. Despite what you may think, there is a big difference in growing up in the inner-city then there is in some suburb or in Montana. Listening to rap music and dressing like the rappers does not make one a criminal or a thug. Economic factors do play a huge role in growing up in cities. It's a lot harder for kids in inner-cities to find jobs. In large part because people like you see how they dress and think they are bad people, when in reality, they aren't. Education in inner-cities is also in very bad condition. Do people like you care to fix this? I doubt it.
I was recently watching the special features on the Scarface DVD and found it odd how many rappers looked up to the lifestyle of a movie. They looked up and wanted to emulate a white gangster lifestyle. These same rappers who ushered in this lifestyle you loath, looked to a movie about white criminals for inspiration. Should this really be a surprise? One of, if not the worst criminal groups in US history were the Italian mobs...white people. The worse criminal organization now is Mara Salvatrucha, another white gang.
Before you make your stupid comments on black kids and hip-hop lifestyle you should take a look at who the worst criminals really are and where the big crime activity came from, white people. Get off your pedestal and come down to reality. There are people of all races that are bad, or thugs as you like to call them. If you actually try to get to know people from other races, however, you'll find that there are a lot more who are great, kind people.
What may qualify as equally ignorant, maybe naive is a better choice of words, is that anyone actually believes 99% of the crap Alpha posts. Think about it.

Don't follow these boards well enough to know what kind of stuff each poster posts. What I do know is alpha wasn't the only one to display a complete racist/close-minded attitude.

Where do I start with this retard?
First off you have no idea who I grew up and what their ethnic background may be.
I do know that a certain demographic in college shot me, and 2 certain demographics tried to beat me up at a convienence store because I was a certain demographic they didn't like in their neighborhood.
You also have no clue as to how I feel about those certain demographics after the fact.
If you believe I am as you say in your post, so be it I don't give two shits what you or anyone else thinks. I know who I am.
Sure there are bad people in every race, you would have to be an idiot of your proportions to think otherwise. You can try and point out the FBI's most wanted, but you can't deflect the crime rates of a certain demographic killing each other.
Also Tony Montana in Scarface was Latino not white.
There is so much more to correct from your post, but I won't waste anymore of my time on you since your set in your ways and are narrow minded.
P.S. I left out the part where you expect the typical response I have a friend of a certain demographic, yada yada yada. That proves I am not racist.
I subscribe to the advice of black leaders such as Jessie Jackson who state that the first step to curbing black involvement in crime is to first admit that there is an epidemic problem.
Yeah there are bad people in all races but even Jessie admits to being relieved when he turns around on the street and sees a white man behind him and not a black man. Blacks are disproportionately represented within street crime stats given the fact that they are only 15% of the population.
Again, Latino/Hispanic is not a race...he was Cuban by the way.
I never said the FBI's most wanted list...
I honestly don't care that you were shot and beat up. By all you say here, you deserve it. When you open your mouth and spew out that shit, people will beat the shit out of you.
Quote:
Among the four categories of race reflected in UCR arrest data, 69.8 percent of all persons arrested were white, 59.0 percent of persons arrested for violent crime were white, and 68.8 percent of persons arrested for property crime were white.

As I said Blacks are disproportionately represented.
15% of the population and they comprised 49.8 percent of all juveniles arrested in 2005 for violent crime..................can you say hip hop influence???
So per capita black youths are far far more likely to be involved in violent crime.
