Jimmy Wilson

Talk up your team and put others down

Glad all you guys are convicting him now, that's nice... How many people do you know that just "give themselves up" when they just shot someone??? Can we all see what the facts are before we convict him??? That's only fair...

i think even if he is innocent he will not be playing football this fall, which is the least of his worries and it should be on the bottom of the list for those involved. two kids lost their father and potentially two mothers lost their sons. I never once spoke ill of the cats and their situation, but this sheds light on what can happen to any and all universities. Also this puts into perspective what J. Wash. did. My grievances to the Smoot family.

As a father of one (soon to be two). That was my first thought when I read that he had two young kids. That made my heart sink. Regardless who actually pulled the trigger whatever, Mr. Smoot's kids are going to grow up without their father, and that is who is hurt the most in this.

Will this crap ever end. I didn't like it when it was happening in Bozeman and I hate it that it is happening in Missoula. Anyone who threw stones at the cat program needs to be aware that we all live in glass houses.

Without commenting on the eventual outcome of the legal case, his incarceration (no matter whether he turned himself in or not) is another stain on the athletic programs in Montana. First and foremost, I am proud to be a native Montanan -- regardless of where I reside at the moment -- and these sort of situations reflect poorly on the whole state. I am proud to be a Griz fan, but when it comes to rivalries, I want them played on the football field or basketball court, or wherever and not played in headlines and the media. It is truly a sad day.

Could have.. but thank god, it hasn't been. It's funny.. Montanans are known for being gun toting rednecks who are NRA supporters and f$%,k the dems and their gun laws.. yet, we know not to point them at people. Funny how that works.

What a moronic thing to say - as if it's the people pushing for tougher gun laws that are shooting people up in Oakland and LA. There are just a couple other variables in this situation other than the fact that Montanans are pro-gun and Californians favor gun-control

The depth chart for the Griz's last game (UMass) was:

CB

Harris
Jackson
Dwyer

CB

Wilson
Freeman
Parks

Based just on that depth chart:

With Harris having exhausted his eligibility, Jackson steps into a starting role.

And with Wilson doing the unthinkable , Freeman replaces Wilson.

WOW, I too am near speechless. First of all my thoughts and prayers go out to the victim, each family, and Jimmy Wilson. I hope brothers, sisters, and friends of the victim will step any way possible to help raise these kids. I speak of 1st hand experience, having dealt with my 2 nephews and 1 neice having lost their father. At the time the kids were 7, 5, and 3. When their father passed away our family was in a state of confusion, with many questions how to move forward with these 3 kids. It was not easy, and the kids miss their father dearly to this day. I hope rest of the family(s) involved step to the plate for the sake of these kids, and be willing to help guide these kids through their adult lifes.

As for Jimmy, I pray when all plays out this was in self defense or trying to remedy a bad situation for the family he cares and loves. I do not condone murder to anyone, but I do hope it plays out that Jimmy was protecting someone from someone or something and it turned out bad.

As for the GRIZ, I hope each and every player will learn the importance of the company you keep and the places you are. Just do not put yourself in those situations that could turn out bad. IO hope this unites the team.

As for GRIZNATION, I hope we can be humbled by this. I am glad I did not go bashing the CATS or their fans during their turmoil. For those that did bash them or show disrespect to them, I have no empathy for you and hope you too have learned a lesson. I have not, do not, and will not wish anything like this on any player, programs or fan base. My heart is out to every one in situations like this, even those of my biggest rival (CATS).

I wouldn't be surprised if ISU transfer Pate grabs one of those starting spots actually.

Pate is a RS freshman from Las Vegas. The ISU player is Erik Stoll who is a strong safety and a good one too. Erik has to redshirt this season because of the transfer.

Maybe that's the name I was thinking. For some reason I thought he was a corner. I just remember there was some ISU DB who looked real promising.

If only that were true, ronbo.

Sorry to hear the bad news this a.m. Unfortunately, the law of averages catches up with all of us eventually.

As to the few cat fans who've been spewing filth because of this news, ignore 'em; they don't represent the majority of us and they certainly have little, if any, integrity or dignity.

I still cannot believe that you are worried about the depth chart right now. Children have lost their father! That is what you should be worried about.

There are times in life where Griz football is not the most important thing on earth. This, is most definately one of them.

Thanks for that thought,

I hate to see this in any program, but it happens. I'm sure you have the depth on the team to replace him.

Tough loss---A person life's, Jimmy's career and education, and a key player for next year's team.

We will be vulnerable at CB. With losing both Tuff and Jimmy we will be challenged. Abuddy of mine always says a team in the Big Sky is about as good as its cornerbacks. We now have a real challenge for next year.
Michigan State football made me a fan. Montana football gives us Champions!!

This is a Griz message board, I don't see how you can fault somebody for trying to relate this news to the Griz football squad. And personally, as far as mourning over Wilson's personal losses such as education and football... if Jimmy did this, then he doesn't even deserve my condolences. But I'll hold my judgement until we learn more on the story.

sid2000 wrote:As of now it isn't looking good for Wilson. Usually when a person turns himself in to the authorities it's a pretty good sign that they are guilty of the crime....

The quote from sid2000 stopped me in my reading tracks. I am a lawyer with a great deal of litigation experience. For 20 years I did a lot of criminal defense work (burned out on it...just civil litigation now). Many people accused of crimes "turn themselves in" and it has nothing to do with the actual facts or the eventual outcome in the case. Most people simply recognize that if the cops are looking for them, it doesn't do a lot of good to hide. Plus, based on a couple of news items I read about Wilson, the dead guy was shot days ago and it may have been one of those cases in which the State was investigating (and waiting to see if the guy died) before charging out the matter. For all the readers of this message board (me included) know, Wilson had a lawyer shortly after the incident occurred and the lawyer told law enforcement that when they're ready to move on it, give him a call and Wilson will voluntarily come it BECAUSE HE HAS NOTHING TO HIDE.

Right now, its all speculation but one cannot draw a conclusion that things look bad for the accused simply because accused cooperated in the arrest procedure. (sid2000: you prefer the OJ car chase method of arrest? )

Incidents like this tend to put a cloud on a program. I wish the Griz well because for a while, these events, like the events down the road at MSU, take a little gloss off the program. But, you'll get through it.

I'm not quick to jump to conclusions, but the fact that JW "allegedly" drove to this guy's house, shot him in his driveway, and then turned himself in doesn't indicate that there is a lot of doubt about the matter. I'd be suprised if he ever steps foot in MT again. I'm not a detective or lawyer, but it sounds to me like he planned it out, knew what he was doing, and did it. (first degree?)

Also, I don't think there were many, if any, Griz fans that took genuine delight at MSU's misfortunes. I think many just used the events as examples to continue to criticize Kramer's dependence on recruiting California players, particularly JC's. It's unfortunate that events like these perpetuate stereotypes about an entire state/culture.
