Didn't they learn this year that just having the largest O-line doesn't mean the best O-line?

After watching the Wofford OL...I say give me a few smart "Mutts" (6-1 to 6-3 270-290ish type players with last names ending in orze, ich, or iske, or owski)

Agreed... I'll take small guys over big guys any day... case-in-point: Carroll College... one of the smallest teams in the NAIA... and a powerhouse!

Be carefull. You still need beef. Remember getting ran over by James Madison? Granted that was on defense. But weight is a definite advantage in the trenches. That's why our trainers work so hard to add weight to these guys. I'm not saying your wrong, look at the Denver Broncos. They are perennial one of the best lines in the NFL and they don't have many guys over 300. It definetly depends on what kind of offense you run. For a spread out run game like Woffords, You need guys with speed to get out on the edges to block. With a pro or traditional style offense, you need strength to move guys. The Wofford OL would not suceed in our offense.

Imagine that! A hijacked thread by none other than people that continue to run their mouth about the problems with the Montana Offensive System.

It looks like the Griz got another committment from an in-state recruit, Josh Stuberg.

Great news if true on Stuberg. He had a tough senior year wherein he and a teammate got dismissed early in the season for violation of alcohol rules---just a really stupid violation but Tony Arntson applies the same rules for everybody. Stuberg comes from a really solid family and is a very good student and a great kid---just made a stupid decision that cost him his senior year of football.

Had heard that he had several Div. 1-A schools interested in him, but suspect that his stock went down when he didn't play for most of this year. In that sense, this is kind of "steal" by the Grizzlies because I think that he was mostly thinking of going out of state until the developments this year.

I absolutely do not think that Stuberg is any kind of a discipline problem. He made a really dumb decision and am confident he learned a lot from it.

While Stuberg went both ways for Helena High, I think his future with the Griz is as a DB--corner or safety and possible kick and punt returner.

I am thrilled if this quality Montana kid stays in state and plays for the Griz.
Disclaimer: When it comes to the Griz, my cup is half full.

Stuberg looks like he's got the size and speed to be a very dominant shut-down corner, 6-2 and runs under 4.6!

And yeah, I doubt anyone's really concerned with the alcohol dismissal, while it was not the brightest thing to do, what kid in high school has not gone to a few parties or got drunk?

He's a solid pickup.

Good point on the alcohol issue...times have sure changed, admittedly for the better. When I was in high school, a bunch of us from the football team were at a kegger that the police raided...they dumped out the open beers, confiscated the keg and told us all to go home. No names, no reports to the coach...sort of got swept under the rug. Even at that level, it creates the "I can get away with anything" mentality. It's harsh that Stuberg missed his senior year, but I'm sure he learned his lesson. He'll be a good one for the Griz.

It definitely sucks and is harsh, but it's a team rule and I think it's really cool that the coach didn't just sweep something like that under the rug because it was one of his standouts. It really shows integrity by the coach. Hopefully this kid learned and is ready to kick some ass for the Griz!

Word has it that Tyzer Cady from Colstrip will be joining the Griz. Last year's class B 100m champion. Good all around athlete.

Depends on if the kid ever wants to throw a pass on 1st down.

As per earlier discussion on Josh Stuberg out of Helena High---got a confirmation on this from, ahem, shall we say a very good source. He has signed a LOI and is ready to make it official on Signing Day.

Looks like he would red-shirt and they are talking about developing his body a little more and then using his speed at linebacker. Keep your eyes out for him. Would love to see Ryan Featherston at DE and Josh at LB.

They join a fine Helena tradition of recent Griz T.J. Oelkers, Shane MacIntyre, Conor Molloy, and of course Dan Carpenter and Mike Ferriter from this year's roster. Tony Arntson should receive some kind of recruiting award (altho Shane MacIntyre is from Capital).

Need to keep that Helena pipeline open. They seem to churn out great players every year. Both of those highschools do teriffic every year. Too bad we didn't work on Daly when he was looking for somewhere to play.
