The most recent trade of two time Cy Young Award winner, 29 in March of this year, LHP Johan Santana from the Twins to the Mets is one that boggles my mind, especially considering what the Boston Red Sox and the Yankees were willing to offer:
What did the Twins get in exchange?
(1) 22 yr old Carlos Gomez, OF, 6' 4" 195 lbs, career .232 BA over 58 games, 125 AB, 12 RBI, 2 HR and 12 SB;
(2) Deolis Guerra, a 29 yr old RHP come this April, 6' 5" 200 lbs, who was 2-6 with a 4.01 ERA at Class A St. Lucie last year;
(3) Phil Humber, a 25 yr old RHP, 6' 4" 224 lbs, career over 5 games in the majors, 9 IP and an ERA of 6.00;
(4) Kevin Mulvey, 11 - 10 with 151.2 IP at Class AA Binghamton last year, 6'1" 175 lbs, 1 game of six innings at Class AAA New Orleans last year. Mulvey did have a fairly decent ERA of 3.32 while in Class AA though.
So far, it looks like a major steal by the NY Mets, getting a pitcher that has been hailed as perhaps the best LHP in not only baseball today, but perhaps in the history of the game.
