My beloved Golden Bears

played their way to a huge victory over the Cougars of Washington State University yesterday eve. I found myself very proud of this team as they withstood two three point attempts in the final seconds to secure the win. These fellows, although unsung, really showed that they have what it takes down the stretch.

Did you happen to see the game Bowlesman?
We've defeated Jim Crow. Now we have to deal with his son: James Crow Jr. Esquire.

How upside down is the world when a Pac 10 team gets a win over WSU and it is "huge", and Griz fans talk about a "moral" victory over Portland State. New World Order, I guess.

Indeed, I saw the battle...from courtside, that is! Ah, I hate to rub it in, but I was fortunate enough to obtain two (2) tickets to last night's bout in Pullman, WA. I was seated near where the baseline meets the sideline with my feet on the hardwood. I was very impressed with the difference in physicality between this game and some Eastern Washington games which I have seen from the same distance. The Golden Bears made me proud, but I cannot say much for the fans of the Cougars. The repeatedly belittled me for wearing Golden Bear garb, made fun of my bride for cheering a Golden Bear slam dunk, and threw a biscuit at me during my departure from Friel Court. That is right, a biscuit.

Now, I have seen my fair share of spoilsports, but these children definitely take the cake. I guess I cannot expect much more from the student body at the least prestigious school in the Pacific 8.

I too was at the game, as a student in the student section. I for one apologize for the reception you received at the game Bowlesman. Unfortunately at most sporting events, especially WSU events, opposing fans wearing the opposing teams colors are going to be belittled by the student body (and from the sounds of it in your case even the older patrons). It was a tough loss for us, compounded by the fact that we had the game practically given to us and couldn't convert on open threes and free throws. I was lucky enough to catch a flight to Seattle this afternoon from Spokane on the same plane as the Golden Bear's squad and talked a little basketball with some of the players and coaches prior to boarding the plane, you have a classy bunch of kids and a great staff. I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season (especially against UW) and hopefully you will have a better time next time you visit Friel Court.

Yeah, the Pac 10 has much to do with Grizzly bball. If the WCC is garbage, then what is the lil' sky?

I am glad, however, that we can now post about the zags in here again.

The "lil sky" is one of the worst conferences in the country. Are you expecting me to deny that? Pac-10 is big boy basketball, and GU is lucky they play in the WCC because if they were in the Pac-10, they would get whipped 8 out of 10 nights and would never make the tournament. shut your mouth

Well, I guess we'll never know. UM is lucky they don't play with only two guys against five, they'd never win a game. And if they played on their knees, it'd be tough. If they had LeBron James in a Griz uni, however, they'd prolly win the conference. But none of those things are what's currently happening.
As it stands now, GU does make the tournament every year. The BSC is really weak, UM will be lucky to make the conf. tourney.

Something I've wondered about... how far can a really really good player carry a bad team. Say you stuck kobe or Lebron (as they are now) on the Griz... would they make the sweet 16? elite 8?

Thank you kindly for your words. I suppose I was a bit overreactive when I composed the original passage. The horrors of that night still in the frontal lobe, I lost my cool on a message board. I had no idea how it felt to fear for my bride's safety simply because of the color of her shirt and cap. When the biscuit found its way to my head from the hand of a young, red-haired boy wearing a WSU sweatshirt, I became livid.

I do appreciate your kind words, and apologize for my stinging ones. I wish you the best of luck, and if you see this red-haired boy, tell him that I'm still standing damnit, I'm still strong!
