...this week.

Hauck to UCLA. He agreed to stay on with the Griz through signing day...a class move.

Stay tuned.

Another thread has been moved to rumors already on this. Mods, would it hurt to keep this thread here? If this is true, my hats off to BH for sticking it out for recruiting. If true, could someone fill us in as to what he told the incoming recruits and their families? He has always struck me as being very honest, and hard to believe he would things as "I have no intentions of leaving, etc"

I am guessing he let the kids get very personable with the staff and other players. He probably sold the Montana tradition, success, and fan base harder than normal.

If true, I know GRIZNATION will be torn on this outcome. A few on here will be celebrating his departure. If Van Diest, why? Would it not be smoother promoting any one of our assistants not named RP?

If it is MVD, does he have the balls to lay it all on the line regarding this inconsistent offense or even start over in filling the coaching positions with his own staff? That would be detrimental in my opinion. Thoughts?

IF true... and IF VD is the new guy...

Yes, VD will have the balls to get the offense going. He would bring Nick Howlett (CC's OC) with him and revamp the offense. When given talent at QB (Emmert), Howlett knows how to produce. Especially if he's got a good RB corps to utilize. He's been working with that type of offense for 3 years now.

He'd keep a lot of the staff Im sure, but I know Howlett would be the OC. They've been together too long and he trusts Nick's decisions.

i heard that bob has been telling all the incoming recruits that the whole offensive scheme is going to be revamped. perhaps this is what he meant by those words. one would imagine that telling them "the offense will improve" is the only way he's going to get any decent players this time around.

Van Diest absolutely has the cajones to address the offensive problems. Certainly he'd wouldn't have the problem addressing that in the way that any ass't getting a promotion would have.

Can you see Paulsen telling RP "you don't have a job here any more?"

I say Paulsen, because he's really the only one you'd even think of promoting from the current staff. But I'm not ready to push another guy into his FIRST head coaching job. Get somebody with experience. I think Mike VD would have the lowest level of "change impact" you could find.

Mike VD is the D coordinator for CC, so if Paulsen didn't want to stay, you'd still have a guy at the top who knows D. I wouldn't care if he brought Mick Dennehy back, or brought in Billy Cockhill. For all the Cockhill detractors, it should be worth remembering that he was the OC for a national championship.

Normally I would really doubt this kind of rumor. However, a few very reputable egrizzers are going along with it. That alone holds alot of creedence for me. There are some on here I trust what they say and believe.

Answer me this one question.

How could the U of M have a coach from out side the U of M system (Carroll is a private school) already committed to take over it's football program without violating the State of Montana Laws and U.M.'s hiring practices.

I would believe it if the UM AD knew the coach was going to leave and Identified VanDiest as his number one, had to go and get him candidate. There is no way, though he could offer let along negotiate with a coach. The only way UM could simply anoint a coach would be if they hired from with-in...... ie Wayne Tinkle.

The rumor about BH to UCLA may have some truth to it given other things I have heard. VD to UM has none whatsoever. If BH leaves, look for Pease as a frontrunner.

If this is true, and O'Day knows about it, he keeps the greatest poker face I have ever seen.

I seriously doubt this one...Bobby and company including O'Day and Daste are scheduled to be up in Kalispell Thursday or Friday night for the GSA recruiting recap....If there was a new coach coming in or Bobby was leaving, I'm sure the event would have been postponed by now, there's no way a new HC comes in and gives a recruiting speech on kids he didn't even recruit, think about it. Besides you could be doing some serious damage by putting this stupid stuff on the board right now if recruits may (and they are) reading it. Sometimes its better just to keep quiet about things and quit trying to be some super tabloid reporter trying to get the latest and greatest, you should seriously check your sources. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong...but at least think about what your doing....its two days before signing day and there's some major recruits still reporting to be considering UM.

Bernie Pease won't be coaching here.

This is getting kind of funny.

Well..the proof is in the pudding. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. But I will proven to be right.

And...if I'm a recruit and my new head coach has won 5 national championiships in 6 year (if my numbers are right) I'm tickled to stay with this program!

Why would Mike Van Diest even think about coming to the Griz anyway? He could spend a couple of days on this message board, reading the likes of argh! and AG2, and decide with fans like that, who needs it? MVD is a local hero in Helena, as he deserves to be, so why trade that and a job for life, for all the challenges and stresses of Grizzly football? Plus all the whiny fans??
