Washington State, Wulff finalize contract at $600,000 a year
February 11, 2008
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Paul Wulff has finalized his five-year contract as Washington State football coach. He will make $600,000 a year with $200,000 in base pay, $50,000 deferred and $350,000 in collateral funds for media duties.
Wulff also has incentives for team academic performance, coach of the year honors and bowl appearances. If Washington State makes a BCS bowl, Wulff will receive $75,000. He'll get $100,000 if the Cougars win the national title.
Wulff earned about $100,000 as coach at Eastern Washington. He was hired by Washington State on Dec. 11.
If the Cougs make a BCS bowl, the payout is around $17 million. Even split up with the conference that would be approx $1.7 mill to WSU and they give Wulff $75k? Heck of a thank you...

If he was not an Alum, they would not have offered that crappy of a contract...and he would not have accepted it.
I guess it was a match made in Heaven.

If he gets to a BCS bowl, his payout won't be from WSU, it'll be from a bigger school giving him twice the salary. With that low of a salary, you know the buyout won't keep other schools from pursuing him...

If I remember correctly, there was discussion during the hiring process that the salary wouldn't be great due to a large payout due to previous staff. That said, I'm surprised he signed a deal this small for a five year committment. I was expecting a fairly low salary, but for a one or two year deal so he'd have an opportunity to renegotiate
Since when was $50,000/month a joke? Thats more than most people will ever dream of making.
WSU brought up a coach from a lower division, they shouldn't have to pay top dollar, I imagine Wulff isn't complaining about what he's making, and I know his staff's gotta be making more than they were at EWU... personally, I don't see how they pay for what they have now.
Anyways, good for Wulff, good for WSU, I don't see how anyone can be unhappy with the pay....
