Was at the wings game on saturday (and the tigers game and the Hoe Down---a huge country music festival in downtown Detroit---believe it or not) and thought the stars played well but just were not as deep. I thought the ribiero thing was cheap, but also think osgood embarassingly embellished it. By the way I was always expecting ribiero to disappear in the playoffs, if you are too soft to play in montreal, you are not built for playoff hockey.
Now its 3-0 wings...how do think a wings vs pens series will play out?

Pens all the way!!! Unfortunately my dreams only play out in my head. I'm not sure if the Penguins have the physicallity to hang with the Wings but a guy can dream.
Pens in 7 it'll be a hell of a series.

Pens are good and have the speed to skate with the the wings. They have also been a little fiesty with the flyers so I don't think the physical thing should bother them.
Should be a good series, Pens in 7. Wings are a little beat up?
Wings are about as healthy as a team gets this time of year. Franzen is out, but I suspect he will be back. I think Pens - Wings will be very interesting.
Due to the NHL cramming crosby down everyones throats, I saw a lot of pens games this year. Crosby is over-rated in my opinion but Melkin is a fantastic player. I also think they are plenty tough...Laraque is the baddest man in the NHL and plenty of other guys on the team bang. I really like that young kid Tyler Kennedy, his line with Staal and Ruutu is a good third line.
Having watched the pens though, I dont think there D can hang w/ detroit, they will be trapped in their own zone too much.

Detroit in 6.
Crosby has two assists already tonight, we don't get to see him that much in Dallas but over rated? I agree with your assesment of Laraque, watched him bang up the Stars for year when he played in the west, I'm sure he and Darrien Hatcher are not on speaking terms? The Mule will be missed by the Wings and that may be just enough to balance things out.....one way or another should make for a good cup final. Still waiting for Osgood to have a meltdown?
I wasn't saying Crosby isn't a great player, but he would have to be the best player in the NHL in order to match his hype. He is not the best player on his team, and the wings have two forwards I like better than him in Datsyuk and Zetterberg who not only stick handler better but are shut-down defensive players (see their respective take-away and +/ - ratings). Also Ovechkin is head and shoulders better than him in many ways, I would also add Iginla to that list--both guys score like him but also hit everything that moves.

This is the best that the Wings have looked. Theres a guy who has a sports talk show in Michigan every afternoon and he was saying that this may be the best Wings team which if you look at the 97 and 98 teams is pretty damn good. I like how the Wings are not really reacting to the physical play that they have seen in the playoffs. Its like they would rather piss off their opponent by scoring than fighting back.
I think the Red Wings over the Pens in 4. Osgood will be undefeated in the playoffs this season. And Barry Melrose and evrybody else on the Pens banwagon can come out to Detroit and see the big celebration in the Motor City. A victory parade for the Wings one day, the next day a parade fot the Pistons, followed by a rally celebrating the Tigers getting to .500.

So much for my idea of osgood being undefeated in the playoffs. Stars came out to play last night. I feel they had a sense of urgency that the Wings didn't have.

The stars benefited most from the Holmstrom witch-hunt. Waving off that first goal was one of the worst calls I have ever seen. The balls on that guy to make up a call in game 4 of the western conf finals. That clown should be relegated to being ref at house squirt level games in the U.P.
So now that we know its a Detroit-Pittsburgh final and the the game schedule. What does everyone think now...
I would like to change my prediction. Earlier I had Pittsburgh in 7. I don't think that Pittsburgh could win a game 7 in Detroit so... Pittsburgh in 6. Crosby has come on strong since Malkin has cooled. And the high that they are riding from the drubbing they gave the Flyers in the last game will help with Saturday's game in Detroit. Detroit is missing Chelios and with the weak offense that Dallas has compared to the much stronger offense for Pittsburgh I think that they will take the cup with either Malkin or Fleury winning the Conn Smythe.

I was listening to xm this morning and they had Pierre McGuire on and he described orpik and gonchar as "the ultimate shut-down pair". I am assuming the McGuire part of him must have been falling down drunk when he said that, or he just mispoke. Defense will be the difference in the series, but the clear advantage is detroit's. Our top 4 is far better than anything they faced this year...they lucked out w/ philly's top pair being out when they played them (not that it would have changed the end result).

NBC has the games starting on Wednesday night.
Pittsburgh needs to get some shots on goal. Osgood is looking great but if pittsburgh want to win they need to get better looks with the puck. It was good to see Franzen back in Monday night, however I didn't care for the Penguins cheap shots on his head. I guess its a risk that Franzen has to play with but its cheap in my book.
I think the Red Wings win it in 5. Pittsburg will come back and play hard, but I see the Wings taking game three, losing game four and wrapping it up at the Joe in Game 5.

I don't care which station it is (although I go with CBC), but I would like to see a moratorium on the use of the phrase "time and space". It seems like there is some conspiracy that ever commentator has to use it at least once in his analysis.
I picked the Wings to win, but I did not predict this. The penguins look like they are in over their heads.
