Losing Rundles and his whole experience turning bad is not good. He is a great talent. The other two, doesn't matter. I think rundles leaving though is bad for us long term.
I don't.
If he ever reached his potential, as a leader and player, he would've had as big of an impact on this program as any player with the team during this past season. He was dying to be the leader and coach on floor but he hit his slump, no one bought into what he had to say and he probably blamed it on the coaches. The kid was tough enough to come back into a high school game after dislocating a shoulder and gashing his face but not tough enough to get past a rough season. It's boggling. I don't think he had the best influences but who knows.
A whole lot of if's. He may have been dying to be the leader, but actions speak louder than words, and frankly all I ever witnessed from Cam most of the time, was just that, words. I wish him well at Wayne State. Time to move past the shoulda, coulda, woulda's.
The kid came in wanting to be a pure pg, that's what he was. He was forced into the sg role and took it happily. What'd he do with it? Only led the bsc in regular season 3 pt shooting percentage. He was someone who had fun when it looked like everyone else was going through the motions.

This is getting to be a lively and lengthy thread. Who else is sure that these 3 players are actually leaving the program and why are you sure?
See PM
Just for the record, all I can get from Tinks is "We will be losing a couple of guys but its not official yet so I can't comment, sorry!"
Cam will be going to Wayne state, I'm sure of that. He decided before the conference tourney. I've heard Zach tell others he was looking at transferring.

Grizwhiz, I have heard from good sources that Cam and Graves are definitely gone. This is the 1st I have heared of Vanderjagt, but it would not surprise me. I am hoping to get better clarification on Vanderjagt sooner than later. I am not sure when the GRIZ can make any of this public knowledge but think it would be best to wait for just that.
MSLACAT or anyone with who is looking at the GRIZ please post here or PM me if you have information you do not want to make public here. Thank you all.
BTW Tinks commented on his postgame show after the ISU loss that he expected a few spots to be opening up. He did not get specific then, but did give a strong Clue it was going to happen.

Three players to leave Griz hoops
Posted on March 18
MISSOULA - Three players will not be returning to the University of Montana men's basketball team next season.
Head coach Wayne Tinkle announced Tuesday that redshirt freshman Zach Graves and sophomores Cameron Rundles and Dave Vanderjagt have asked to be released from their scholarships following the spring semester.
Graves, a 6-2 guard from Sacramento, Calif., played in 10 games this season and scored 15 points. He redshirted at Montana in 2006-07.
A 6-1 guard from Minneapolis, Minn., Rundles played in 30 games and started in 13 and was UM's fifth-leading scorer, averaging 6.6 points a game. Rundles played in 62 career games and was the Big Sky Conference freshman of the year two seasons ago.
Vanderjagt is a 7-0 center from Townsville, Australia, who played in 13 games this season and has played in 17 career contests.
Montana, which tied for third in the Big Sky this season with an 8-8 league record and was 14-16 overall, lost two seniors to graduation in forward Andrew Strait and guard Matt Martin, both three-year starters and four-year letterman.
"The future of Grizzly basketball is bright, and we will do our best this spring to replace the three players who have decided to pursue other options," Tinkle said.

It's interesting that Tinkle says they asked to be released. Wonder if they were prodded any into asking. Or maybe the lack of playing time was enough prodding. (or in the case of Rundles, just the wheels coming off the car).

I doubt you are going to hear anything but PC cooments from both Coaches and Players, as it should be. There is no reason to air any dirty laundry. This is now officially water under the bridge.

Agreed. I hope it works out well for these young guys. Now, let's hope some info on Griz recruiting begins to materialize.

I think it's pretty common nomenclature for any NCAA team at any sport to say the player asked for a release that was granted by the team.
The last thing any team wants is to draw attention to itself. You keep it straight forward like this and it prevents people from digging - which is always a good idea.
Maybe they were just fed up with the Circus this program has been the last two years? all three were brought in with the promise of a winning “now”/no excuses attitude surrounding the program. Not a “can we get everyone on board?” Wait till next season approach that we have currently.

Let me guess, you are a disgruntled pal of one of them. They are gone, get over it.

You guys are right, of course. No need to bite anyone on their way out the door. I just wondered what the off-the-record story was. And I hope the school tries to to make the transition as smooth as possible for these guys.

The only "off the record" stuff you are likely to hear is the hit and run stuff posted by guys that have an axe to grind, and who, coincidently, have never posted a single positive post at any time. The Coaches are taking the high road, and thus far so are the players, as it should be.
No not at all, I just think its sad/pathetic how far we have fallen but that’s alright if you are content with mediocrity.
Oh please. Name one team who wins the league every season, hell Duke doesn't, UCLA doesn't, Kansas doesn't. and you think UM is going to? reality check
No, but those teams legitimately contend year after year after year after year. When was the last time any of the teams you mentioned finished a season with a .500 record?
