The Bud, do you know if there is surfing on the gulf side of florida or best on the atlantic coast side.

Right now I'm planning Monday at Disney World, Tuesday at Universal Studios, Wed at Kennedy Space center/Cocoa beach then Thursday and Friday for repeats of what the boys enjoyed most...

Please keep the suggestions coming!!!!!!

Tom

I grew up in Butte - I don't know $h!t about surfing - sorry. My guess would be the Atlantic side because of greater storms, less protected.

What part of Disney World? If you are thinking its just like Disneyland, you will be shocked! Disneyland is equivalent to the Magic Kingdom park within Disney World. There are still 5 more major parks within Disney World, plus Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island. You should pick a park to concentrate on. It is not even remotely possible to see Disney World in a day. I suggest Disney Hollywood Studios Park for teenagers.

IMHO, Epcot is great for young kids and adults, but not teenagers. Teenagers will be bored with Epcot.

I still say for kids in their late teens, I highly recommend the following can't miss, in order:

- Island of Adventure - Make sure you ride the front seats on either Fire or Ice at least once.
- Universal Studios
- Disney Hollywood Studios
- Either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon water parks

You might check the Disney website. I think one of the waterparks, maybe Blizzad Beach is closed for refurbishing.

Also the wind seemed to blow from the Atlantic side mostly. People were surfing at Coco Beach.

Only argh could go to NYC and say there is nothing to do. Of course you probably don't like touristy things, but guess what, you are a tourist.

There are probably 50 or so Comedy Clubs to choose from. Some of the absolute best comedians are there to see. Just think, you can be an even bigger smartass than you already are afterward.

Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Unless you go there, it is hard to describe.

Metropolitan Museum of Art. self explanatory. Museum of Modern Art if you like museums.

St Patrick's Cathedral. I loved the architecture. Argh, not sure if I would touch the holy water if I was you.

Bronx Zoo, yes argh, it really is a Zoo, not Yankee Stadium.

Greenwich Village, just a hunch but my guess is you would enjoy this much more than Central Park, but then again after Dark I could imagine you there as well.

Yankee Stadium, last chance to see it.

China Town, pretty amazing and some fine cuisine. I sure beats the Panda Express in Pokey. Not into Chinese things, try Little Italy.

If all else fails I am sure they would let a man who calls himself argh ring the closing bell on Wall Street.

Seriously, hope you are having a good time. New York, or any place is as good or bad as you want to make it. There are great clubs, restaurants, neighborhood pubs, etc. Just be a New Yorker while you are there. The people are great if you just flash that argh smile. :thumb:

just did about 15 miles in and around central park (running). it iss a lot more pleasant place on a weekday versus a weekend! went to the s of l, ellis island, the met, wall street, st pat's cathedral, times square, and a bit of harlem. oh, and of course chinatown and little italy. spamalot phantom of the opera rent. what i really want is a pair of tickets to the daily show or the colbert report. or, for a real laugh, the knicks at msg. check that, what i really, really want is grizlawyer to buy me lunch! speaking of which, i'm surprised how affordable this place is, other than real estate. knock about three hundred bucks a night off of the hotel room price, and i'd consider this a pretty reasonably priced trip!

is the empire state bldg worth going to? i'm going to move over to this ritz-o-rama corporate place in palisades later tonight, so i've gotta figure out my last afternoon's worth of the city! hmmm. maybe i'll take your advice and take a swim in the holy water at the cathedral. or, in lieu of that, take a shower. the doormen at this hotel seemed rather reticent to let me in after my run.

argh!,

Yes, the Empire State Building is worth it. Don't drop any pennies though. Here is some more to check out from an earlier thread:

His name reminds me of the oldest bar in New York City: McSorley's Old Ale House. They serve beer 2 at a time and you have 2 choices when it comes to beer - light and dark - only. I recommend a visit there.

The Empire State building is worth a trip. I want you to see how fast you can run the stairs to the top. It sounds as though you are in pretty darn good shape. Just imagine one of HC's guys are taling you. :thumb:

Both are unlike any water park you have ever been to. Just picture the largest waterslide park that you have been to - times 10. They are huge.

heh...well I didn't see this thread until just now. Lunch would've been tough, b/c I switched jobs a few weeks ago and am commuting up to Connecticut every day now, but I probably would've tipped a beer or two with you, if only to see if you're really as much of a smart ass in real life as you are on here. :)

If you're still in the area and need more suggestions for things to do, though, then just say the word.

Don't bother with the Gulf if you want to surf, reel. Cocoa's fine for tourists - go a bit S. to Sebastian if you know what your doing, just stay out of the locals way. Slater's from Cocoa and well.... no one surfs better.

Some pics from the ...Lost contest held there recently:

a lot of ideas/suggestions.
How about any "historical" aspects of Florida that may be of some interest? We'll have plenty of fun time, but learning about some unique history of the area would be cool too!

St. Augustine is a good choice if you're interested in history. We spent a day there a few years ago.

Another recommendation - don't eat at the Waffle House restaurants. They are everywhere in the South. The food is very sub-par.

The sign on the one we went to had been damaged by a hurricane. It read "affle House" and my kids referred to it as the awful house ever since.

Just south of Kissimmee is Lake Tohopekaliga. Take an airboat ride to see the alligators. We used Boggy Creek:

http://www.bcairboats.com/

We were there in the off-season, so we had the whole boat to ourselves and what ended up to be about 1-1/2 hour tour. It was suppose to only be for 1/2 hour. There are other airboat tour companies too, but the boats are huge and impersonal/commercialized.

One thing that you should do is use coupons. There are coupon books everywhere. Wherever you are (airport, hotel, restaurant, etc) grab some coupon books. You can print many of them out on-line.

Don't pay full price for anything during the off season.

Stop by the Orlando Tourist Information Bureau and get a ton of area information, advice, and coupons. A UNH alum that worked there recognized our Griz shirts. We talked about 1-AA football and Ricky Santos for a while - and how the Griz kicked their a$$e$ in Missoula.

Have fun!

One piece of advice about the Fast Pass (and other similar systems) at the parks:

If you get to a park as they open - highly recommended - rush to the most popular ride and get your fast pass. Then get in the regular line, which should still be fairly short. When you come out, you will be able to use your fast pass to ride it again right away.

Speaking of history, here is a previous post:
WyomingGrizFan wrote:Here is a link to show photographs of an eighteen foot long replica of the RMS Titanic soon to be on permanent display at Orlando, Florida:

Maybe you could contact any Orlando-based eGrizzers for ideas too:
