My guess would be that he was referring to the bit in Obama's speech where he said he cringed when his grandmother confessed that she was uncomfortable when she was out on the street and saw black men. That's not a quote--just my memory.
So, yes, basically Bronco is still just flinging feces and seeing if any will stick to anything.

I see. Apparently a lot of people (seemingly those who have a political bias against Obama) in our country are unwilling to have an open discussion about race in this country without trying to spin every statement as some sort of bizarre black on white (or, even stranger, white grandmother of mixed race grandson on black racism) racism issue.

Looks like it's sticking in Pennsylvania...check the polls.
You wanted the quote....
------------
“I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.”
In trying to explain his comments…
"The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a typical white person.”
--------
Wonder if Hillary or J.M referred to a "typical black person," would we ever hear the end of it?
His dad abandoned him at 2 and his mother at 10… it was his white grandmother who raised him and sent him to the best schools….bet those bus wheels hurt.

LOL!!!
I just got home- I knew that I would find that link/quote.,,since BAC was certain that couldn't be true...it was only in 1/4 of the papers on the 4th page of hte 2nd section of the political commentary....righ next to the guy from the Iowa dispatchwho wrote the recent AP story. (aka filler)
Of course it could not of happend or true if BAC does not have the link and offer it up as proof to his chosen slant.
Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But of course, I repeat myself..."
-Samuel L. Clemens
Interesting how you cut off the quote at "white person" as opposed to letting the whole thread play out.
And what he was saying is true ... a typical white person is intimidated by a group of black kids or a black man they don't know (especially if he's not dressed like we are). I'll admit that I am. I try to overcome it and not let it cloud my judgment about people too much, but there is absolutely that fear drilled into our heads from an early age. That doesn't make us racist, but it does make us a little flawed, and like he said, that's something that we do need to overcome.
This is his full quote:
Quote:
"... .. The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person who, uh, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know there's a reaction that's been been bred into our experiences that don't go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way and that's just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it..." - Senator Barack Obama
And despite the politically motivated attempts of some to portray his comments in some insidious light, the fact is that he's right. This does happen.
I'm not sure the "typical black person" has this ingrained fear of white people ... except perhaps in some very backwards neighborhoods. So I'm not sure anyone would ever say something like that.
I agree that Obama could have phrased it differently to avoid the predictable spin by people on the right-wing and Hillary websites, but the gist of what he says is perfectly true, and I think it's actually refreshing that he's talking about stuff like this openly and honestly. I much prefer this to talking points.
Foe: I wasn't doubting that a quote existed that Bronco was referring to, but I much prefer to know which freaking quote somebody is referencing before I respond. It's much easier and more efficient (and more intelligent) that playing those reindeer games of making vague allusions about people without explaining what was actually said and the context of the statement.
You see, that's how informed discussions work -- people support their statements with direct information and then apply reasoned dialogue to make their point. I asked for the quote so I could know exactly what quote he was referring to so I could respond properly.
Definitions of racism typically involve some sort of superiority complex a person or group feels toward another group of different racial origins or color.
It seems that if anything, Wright suffers from an inferiority complex which is undertandable, but doesn't jive with the definition racism.
It appears that racism, similar to liberal, is another word being co-opted for political campaigning.
As we draw closer to the reality of having a black or possibly female president, it will be interesting to see how...what's that word Hannity always uses...oh yeah - unhinged - the right wingers become. Sounds like Foe and Ronbo have already started.

It’s crazy how much people try to villainize political figures whose views they don’t share or agree with. We’ve seen it with Bill Clinton and Dubya. Neither of those guys are as bad of people as their critics make them out to be. Their critics seem to grossly over exaggerate their flaws and will even make inaccurate shots about their character to legitimatize their arguments against them. It even culminates into a hatred for that person, which is really too bad. I liken those examples to what some are doing by claiming that Obama is racist. Obama does have his flaws and I do feel he is the most out of touch with middle class and rural America out of the remaining candidates, but calling the man racist is nothing more than a cop out.
