as far as global warming, i'm skeptical of some of the claims of scientists, since so many these days manage to 'discover' what they want to discover. indeed, up to 80% of the 'findings' published these days are never replicated, or so yet another study claims. i think this is because many, many scientists are much more interested in career advancement and receiving accolades than they are in performing truly rigorous scientific studies. the sad thing is that determining which 20% of the published literature is not b.s. can be very difficult.
still, using anecdotal evidence such as one slightly-out-of-season snowstorm as "evidence" against global warming is moronic.

and taking that post seriously might also fall within the moronic margin of error.
also, if the initial post in this thread was supposed to just be a joke or whatever, why did zen choose to put it in a forum for the discussion of politics? wouldn't "random shit" be a better place for a weather report?
also, i've got to admit that posting something that you can play both ways ('i was not being serious' or 'this is very serious') depending on the responses you get is very convenient. it is always nice to be able to decide what you meant by a statement [/i]after posting it.
