AQ is apparently upset with Iran for claiming 9/11 was the work of the Jews. They're also none to happy that Iran isn't giving the Sunnis enough credit for their Muslim contributions to death and destruction.

Now I know what I am about to say will go against the CW of our current foreign policy ... but knowing that Iran and AQ are enemies, and that Iran-friendly Shiites and AQ-friendly Sunnis are our two biggest enemies in Iraq ... maybe we should try getting out from in between those two and let them shoot at each other instead of letting them shoot at us?

That's apprently the thing with muslims. After they've dealt with a common enemy like the U.S. now, or the USSR in Afghanistan in the 1980's, they just can't wait to fight with each other over which bat-shit crazy version of their belief system is the purest.

At least with the Chinese communists, you can hold out the hope that liberalization and democracy will eventually be won through free markets and the resulting influx of western culture and ideals.

I'm not so sure if that's ever going to be possible with the muslims.

I guess one can always hope that Turkey is more than just an anomoly.

If you guys practice enough you can maybe complete the argument (all 80 posts) in under 10 minutes.

In other Iraq/Iran news ... it really, really, really looks like we need to quit trying to blame Iran for everything and instead start talking to them in an effort to figure out how to create some peace in that region:

It has been a priority for about 50 years at least. A good start would be to get all of the arab world to recognize Israel's right to exist. Until that happens the mid east is going to remain a madhouse

Good luck on that. You can't get all of the arab world to agree anything except the direction of Mecca.

Still, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Qatar all officially recognize Israel. That's a start. Like BAC suggests, we need to strike up a dialogue before this will go anywhere.

By "region," I meant what used to be Iraq.

good point - but unless we get that entire region to recognise israel's right to exist - or find another homeland for the jews - there is going to be war in the mideast somwhere

Well...we could take the Jews out of Israel and give them eastern Montana, I suppose. We could give them, say, Livingston and everything east of there, to the North Dakota border, and make that the new Israel. Everyone here would be cool with that, right?

Does anyone else want it? I can say that. I grew up in Malta.

Good point. The Jews probably wouldn't want to be there, either...

How about Western Montana, then? Should we give them Bozeman and everything west of there? Everyone here would be cool with that, right?

Let's give them Manhatten and Long Island. They own them already anyway.

Nah, they only own Manhattan (and Westchester County). The Italians own Long Island.

I'm a little disappointed that no one took my bait, though. Does that mean people see my point, or that they just don't feel like arguing?

The concept is pretty ridiculous. The milk has been spilt. Read the "Torah"

Of course it's ridiculous -- it's not like I was suggesting "let's give them Western Montana" as a realistic solution to the Middle East problem.

My point was simply that "those bad Muslims just need to straighten up and recognize Israel's right to exist" is pretty simplistic, too. (Unless you can say, with a straight face, that you'd have no problem recognizing their "right to exist" if the world community decided to give them Butte, Bozeman, and Missoula.)
