Does anyone know how much longer until KD becomes a griz???
we add him this could be the most athletic and talented team(on paper) that we have had since the early 90's..... this team really reminds me of the squad that gave Pat Kennedy's Sam Cassell and Bobby Sura team a run in the tourney..... PLEASE SIGN KENNY!!!!!!!
The Griz are hoping to sign another player today. Once paperwork is complete the official announcements will be made. As usual, the players generally make an informal announcement such as the Johnson's did. Looks like a great class for Tinks!
This looks like a great class of recruits! What struck me is that all of these guys have either been named MVP and or won championships against some real good competition. They know what it takes to win.
Go Griz! Maul'em all!

FSU team in 91-92 ? That team had 3-4 future NBA players on it with 3 who had and are having lengthy careers. I wouldn't not go that far. If the griz have 3-4 future NBA kids on it then they would have the NCAA all over their recruiting practices.
High Schools: Another Beach player commits
Montana-bound Moikobu fourth Viking headed to Division I program
By DARREN FESSENDEN
SPECIAL TO THE P-I
Everyone wanted a Ferris-Rainier Beach matchup at the end of the boys' basketball season. The Class 4A and 3A state champions had one combined loss, and had lineups to die for.
They never got to play, but the Saxons and Vikings are hooking up in a different way. With the announcement of Nyandigisi "Digs" Moikobu verbally committing to Montana this week, Ferris point guard Shawn Stockton now has a Rainier Beach teammate.
Moikobu becomes the fourth Division I recruit (Reggie Moore and Mike Ladd, Fresno State; Ababe Dimisse, Eastern Washington) departing Mike Bethea's 29-1 team.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pounder, who played for Chief Sealth his first three seasons, averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
"What he's going to be able to do is get to his natural position -- which is the 3," Bethea said. "He can showcase a lot of the skills that he wasn't able to showcase here because we needed him at the 4 and 5."
Stockton, voted "Mr. Basketball" by the Washington State Coaches Association, and Moikobu are joined in the recruiting class by Gig Harbor's Mathias Ward.
"With that recruiting class, he (Montana coach Wayne Tinkle) has taken care of a 1, a 3 and a 4," Bethea said. "That's going to be the best class in the Big Sky."
In a couple years, Bethea will look back at one of the best collections of talent on one roster in the city's history.
By 2010, at least eight Vikings will have committed to D-I schools.
Bethea said senior-to-be Aaron Dotson (a Garfield transfer before this season) is being recruited "coast-to-coast."
Georgia has already made an offer, California, Portland State and Utah visited Wednesday, and Gonzaga, Miami and Washington all have scheduled visits in the immediate future. Moreover, Kentucky has expressed considerable interest in the 6-4 Dotson (14 ppg, 7 ppg) and national champion Kansas will visit Beach on Tuesday.
Georgia already wants junior-to-be guard Jaamon Echols (a Renton transfer before the season) and Eastern Washington has offered a scholarship to senior-to-be guard D'vonne Pickett.

"Digs". There's a name I can remember. It flows off the tongue a lot easier than "that tall guy whose name I can't pronounce."
If we can keep everyone here, it should be an exciting year.
Info is pretty slow now a days for me a lot of coaches are taking or looking to take vacation time now that recruiting for this year is coming to a close. Then it all starts up again in June for next season. The griz have filled some holes and Tinkle and staff need to get them all on the same page and buying into what needs to be done. Any word on whether Marso will be back on staff next year? That's about the only coaching rumor I've heard is that his contract may not be renewed in the last few weeks.
Kenny Daniels is at least two weeks from making a decision, he is waiting until he vi sites Cal State Northridge, this week end and then possibly Tennessee Martin, but the Griz will wait, they want him pretty bad. I believe the next player to sign will be a point from Salt Lake CC who should be announced soon .... or so I hear.
BTW, If you have been following Bobcatnation.com you know we have been talking about losing assistant coaches Sprinkle and Dirden. Just a heads up Montana State is not the only D-1 school in Montana who will be undergoing staff changes the in the next couple of months.

both the cats and the griz seem set to take their rivalry to former heights when star players were a staple of both teams. the krysko coaching years aside, it's been a generation since either school generated consistently good teams year in and year out, but that should change with an abundance of talented recruits and underclassmen in both programs.
still, i'd say the cats have suffered some setbacks the past few weeks. jon lee, the point guard recruit, was a major loss, and the defections of sprinkle and dirden are jarring to a program just regaining it's balance. the mantra in bozeman obviously is "ain't no monkey gonna stop the show," but on this face of it, all this adds up to one huge bummer for cat fans, the while griz fans will greet any changes at the assistant level with a fairly large yawn.
one last act of revenge on sprinkle's part: taking daniels with him to northridge?

I wouldn't count on Sprinkle being able to deliver Daniels.
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- A junior college guard and a high school forward have signed letters of intent to play basketball at the University of Montana, coach Wayne Tinkle said Friday.
Anthony Johnson of Yakima Valley Community College signed with the Grizzlies along with Nyandigisi (in-DIG'-ih-see) "Digs" Moikobu (MOY'-koh-boo) of Rainier Beach High in Seattle.
Johnson is a 6-foot-3 guard who was the East Region MVP of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges. He averaged 24 points a game for YVCC, which posted a 21-7 record and won the NWAACC tournament championship. Johnson averaged 31 points per game in four tournament games and was named the tournament MVP. He made 89 percent of his free throws.
"Anthony is a tough player on the defensive side and a talented offensive force as well," Tinkle said.
Moikobu played for Rainier Beach High, which posted a 29-1 record in winning the Washington 3A championship. He averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots per game. Three of his teammates have signed with NCAA Division I schools.
"Digs is a 6-6 player who is fundamentally sound, has good defensive toughness and he also has the ability to score the ball," Tinkle said.
"Both of these student-athletes come from quality and successful programs where we know that they have been well-coached," Tinkle said.
Last fall, the Grizzlies signed 6-7 forward Mathias Ward from Gig Harbor High in Washington and 6-1 point guard Shawn Stockton from Ferris High in Spokane, Wash.
"These four players give us what we were looking for in the recruiting process this year - talent, toughness and character," Tinkle said. "Those are three important ingredients we needed to add to our team."
I really look forward to see how this class turns out. So far, it looks like all these recruits will be huge contributors for 2 and 4 to 5 years for the GRIZ. I also know the GRIZ are looking at a few other players to fill one more spot. l have not been told who they are hoping for more, but do know they have plan A, B, and C in store in case the frontrunner does not commit. My guess is their hope is Daniels though.
I am not sure how true it is, but have heard the GRIZ may still be in the running for Stockton's HS teammate. I could have sworn though he already made his decision though. Any updates on the kid? Sorry cannot remember his name.
Also does anyone (mslacat) know any details on the Canadian kid, originally from Africa that was at GRIZ camp last summer? That kid was VERY good. He too has a near impossible name to say. Giovanni Simms updates?
I hear this past years redshirts are all looking good and all are expected to contribute heavily this year. Anyone seen these guys play in open gyms, or see how much muscle Selvig has added? Any updates would be nice. If and when I get back this summer, I will do all I can to catch a few open gyms. Until then, I am relying on anyone here.

Selvig hasn't put much muscle on yet, but hopefully this spring and summer he gets with the program. Strength is what is holding him back when he drives to the basket, he has trouble finishing against stronger players now, but that will come.

The Griz have gotten a their third commit of the spring signing period.
Bassy Banny a 6-3 guard from Salt Lake community college committed. He is originally from the Ivory Coast.
Here is what his coach had to say about him prior to the season.
Quote:
Banny really came on strong last year. He is an unbelievably talented player. His strength allows him to be a complete player. If he will consistently give a complete effort, he could be an All-Region type athlete.” ~ Coach Parrish
Vassy is back for his final season of junior college basketball having averaged 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game as a freshman for Salt Lake. He shot a team-high .617 percent from the field in 32 games played. Vassy also led the Bruins in rebounding six times and was named an Academic All-Region player.
He averaged 10 points, 2.8 assist, 2 steals, 5 rebounds, 57% fg, 20% 3pt, and 65%ft a game
On a side note the Griz have pulled their offer to Kenny Daniels once Banny committed. Banny is a 2g / small forward, and a fabulous athlete. SLCC came just short of the of a NJCAA D-1 championship, losing in the title game.
IF the Griz sign anyone else look for it to be a point, and also look at a couple of SLCC points as possible candidates. All that said I hope that concludes the Griz's recruiting class.

The athletic Banny has a powerful dribble-and-drive game, often resulting in punishment for the rim, and is dangerous with mid-range shots, too. He averages 9.9 points on 56.3-percent shooting, and the versatile player also hauls in 5.4 rebounds with 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals an outing. Like most of the Bruins, he is an aggressive and physical defender.
