My dollar is now worth less than a Canadian dollar!! Is that the wonderful economy we're talking about here?? Fuel is $4.30 a gal... eggs $3.85, milk $4... and my dollar has been going down...down... down for about 8 years now!! Gee I feel wonderful!!!
Well I see Rondo is the new whipping boy for the intellectual elite on this board.
A few thoughts on the subject.
1: Technically we’re not in a depression or a recession but the media wants to play up the story so they play up the story.
2: I have no doubt people are hurting from the current economy. housing market, gas , inflation ECT.
3: Let’s be fair a lot of people who got hurt by the housing market got stung by greed. Both individual greed and corporation greed. The market will correct it self and I hope people stop using there homes as a piggy banks.
4: Food and Gas: I have no problems with high prices. If Americans would waist less and conserve more we’d all be a better people for it. That being said there will always be a group of people that need a security net. A hand up not a hand out as Mr. Clinton said.
5: To be honest: I myself haven’t and don’t know anyone who has lost a home or can’t make a house payment. So the bad times haven’t touched Me and my Own. I also, don’t know one person who couldn’t afford to drive less, eat less, waist less and help the earths economy and ecology by doing some of the above.
6: Some stocks have done very well, Altra (Phillip Morris) and Exxon to name a couple off the top of my head. This is the time to crank up the old savings machine to 25% because people that get rich get rich now. I’m tempted to move to Cali and start buying foreclosures but life is easy for me in Montana, and I just don’t desire for fame and forutune.
A small bit of advice on CA. They are not even close to the bottom of the reals estate market there. Unless you have really DEEP pockets and can afford to sit on those properties for years, then my advice would be stay away from CA.

Ummm, jagur, don't you think that everybody is merely responding to the mocking tone that Ronbo used toward everyone else?
Ronbo ain't a victim in this thread.
When somebody starts spouting straw man arguments about how ill-informed people are who said we were in a "depression" (when nobody has made that claim) and then gets his yucks by talking about how great his investments are doing (without providing any information about what those investments are) and mocks everyone who thinks that the economy is pretty bad ... he might get some people challenging his assertions.
Don't shed a tear for dear Ronbo ... he brings it on himself. But I know you just wanted to use that "intellectual elite" line ... so I get where you are coming from.
i would do a lot of things to make myself rich and famous. really, i would. but i don't desire fame or fortune. that's the reason i'm not famous or rich. really. you must believe me. i'm saying it on the internet(s).

I think it's safe to say that we're all way too noble and enlightened to ever desire such things as fame and fortune, and we're well aware that those people that do have it were merely not disciplined enough to resist such vulgar temptations.
Indeed. Fame and fortune is so last week, man. jagur is us, and we are jagur. Proud and not famous or fortunate ... totally by choice.

Well, I'm glad things are going great for you, Ronbo.
That "fake depression" of yours resulted in a $1.4m revenue loss at my company last year. We laid off 65 real people, not fake ones. We're hoping we lose enough people through retirement this year that we don't have to fire anyone again in December. It sure didnt' feel fake when those folks cleaned out their desks last Dec. 17. But hey, they were home for Christmas.
My mother in-law who lives on her investments has watched her monthly budget shrink by $200 on the wonderful performance of the stock market and she's a little scared.
My brother in-law's stationed in the Netherlands and his officer's salary isn't worth much in the euro economy. You couldn't choke a bad word about America out of that career Marine. He ain't faking it.
A little closer to your neck of the woods, my bro tells me he actually has carpenters stopping by the office looking for work. That's the first time that's happened in 15 years.
ronbo: which candidate, or non-candidate for that matter, do you support? all of your threads are slugged with some anti-democrat words, but you provide very little about who you think would do the best job.
"Ummm, jagur, don't you think that everybody is merely responding to the mocking tone that Ronbo used toward everyone else? "
Place pot kettle picture here.
That would work if I was complaining about ronbo doing that ... but I wasn't. I was instead explaining to jagur that ronbo wasn't a victim and why people (including me) were reponding to him the way they were. Likewise, I would never consider myself a victim when I mock somebody and they respond to my posts.
Fortunately for me, when I do choose to mock somebody, I'm not generally as clueless as ronbo was on this thread.
Nice try though, Bronco. Really. You saw a scenario that sort of was similar to a cliche you've seen used before, and you went for it. If only you had captured the true meaning of the cliche and applied it in an instance that was on-point, it might have landed a solid blow.

Not cool BAC, and people wonder why your the only person posting on Egriz that I'd be willing to cold cock if ever meeting you at a bar.

What's "not cool," exactly?
I suspect that you didn't understand what I meant in my post if you are reacting that angrily.
So please, do explain to me what I said in my post that was so horrible. I'm really curious and a bit confused. If anything in that post would make you want to punch me in the face, then it must be pretty bad.
None the less, you do come across as a condescending prick a lot of times. So as unlikely that it is that I’d take a poke at you on first sight.
Now back on topic: Do any of you Self reliant Liberals want to be rich and famous? Argh, I know a geek like yourself doesn’t have a chance at either fame or fortune but try to visualize fame and fortune and let me know if it sounds fun.
My Advise to WA Griz is have your mother in law move in with you give her some security.
I’ve got to go, I think I’ve finished off this thread, in my own special way.

Yeah ... so ... are you going to prove to me that you actually DID understand my post and explain to me exactly what was so terrible about my post?
You are something of a master of making accusations about people, but never actually supporting what you say (you've done this to me several times, and ignored my PMs in which I asked you what the hell you were talking about). You much prefer the drive-by personal insult thing. So please, let's dig into this. Let's see if you can support your own charges or if you are content to maintain your status quo approach.
If you think I was too sarcastic in my response to Bronco, then I guess you are pretty thin-skinned on his behalf. Seeing as how Bronco accused me of being a hypcrite when I said nothing hypocritical of any kind, I thought that a little sarcasm was appropriate in response.
What, in your mind, is the ideal manner in which to respond to somebody who wrongly accuses you of being a hypocrite? Do you think I should have sat him down and explained to him why he completely botched the use of that term in his attempt to criticize me in reassuring and sincere tones (knowing full well that he's not interested in being taught anything by me), or do you think that maybe, just maybe, being a bit of a smartass right back at him was probably okay? That, perhaps, he deserved being razzed just a bit for it?
And just out of curiosity, have you noticed anyone else in this thread whose posts you would consider "condescending" in any way? Anyone at all?
