First... thanks to all of you who gave suggestions.

These are thoughts and suggestions based on my experience.

1. If your military/uniformed services... active, retired, reserve- make sure you get on the Armed forces Vacation Club site. It is a site that can make reservations at various resorts on the cheap!

www.afvc.com

We stayed at Silver Lake Resort in Kissimmee and it was $371 for 7 nites. We had a 2 bedroom condo with 2 private bedrooms full kitchen and master bath. Very clean, no hidden costs. Resort staff were very nice. 5 minutes from Disney World.

2. We got 7 day Universal Studios ticket for ~80 apiece (saving 25-40 on each ticket as compared to buying at the gate) can go to universal studios or Island of Adventure for a whole week. It's only good for 7 consecutive days. We were there at a time when it's considered "off-season" and with the exception of Friday, lines were pretty short.

Do make sure you get there early... when you do you can get on dueling dragons (probably the best ride we went on while we were there) front seat, 4 consecutive times with max. wait of 5 minutes. It seemed that the friday we also went there were lots of kids on school sponsored trip to U.S..... very busy.

3. We spent 1 day at only one of the Disney world theme parks (Disney Studios, formerly Disney MGM Studios). 2 best rides there are Rock & Roll ride (Aerosmith theme ride), accelerating from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds... very cool! Also Tower of Terror was neat.

4. Spent a day at Wet & Wild water park ( a part of the Universal Studios parks, but not included in the 2 park-7day tickets we had). Fun rides, but don't forget the sunscreen and apply frequently. This highline cracker got burned!

5. Also spent a day at Kennedy Space center. It took about 1.5 hours to get there from where we were staying... but the road (toll) was nice. They have various displays, 2 Imax shows (free with ticket to get in), shuttle launch simulation & you can go to the Astronaut Hall of Fame. We listened to an astronaut that went on 5 different shuttle missions, and stayed at the Soviet space station (soyuz) for 4 months.

We left later in the morning to get there and we should have left earlier. DIdn't have enough time to see everything I (the boys got "tired of space stuff") wanted to see. We also went to Cocoa beach afterwards.

This gave me a greater appreciation for the pioneers of space travel.

6. Plan to have ~$10 in quarters for the toll roads. range is $.75 - 1.25 and you get through faster if you have correct change.

Plan a lot of things before hand and get on the internet for information.

Thanks, reelguy, some good advice, especially with the military angle. "highline cracker" that's funny stuff. Sounds like you had a great time. #thumb

I know if you are in the military they have a resort at the DisneyWorld Resort called Shades of Green. Awesome place and you save lots of money because you get a discount on everything. The military also goes by rank so the higher the rank the more you pay.

Glad you had a great time. If anybody else is going, there is some advice in the previous thread:

http://www.egriz.com/GrizBoard/topic30810.php

Dueling Dragons was also our favorite ride. We had so much fun riding the front seats on Fire and Ice too. We did get extremely light headed repeating the ride too close to the previous ride though. We ended up having to take breaks.

I think the extreme G's we too much for the brain.

Did you see the Fantasmic! Show at the Disney MGM park?
