No high school kids, and 5/6 recruits are juniors. Seems like this would make continuity of the program difficult. Is this a normal recruiting practice for Sac State, or is this year's class an anomaly?

All JC recruits is not a way to build a program in my opinion, or raise APR scores, but Sac obviously doesn't give a shit about APR as they are the worst in the country pretty much.

New coach Brian Katz only had two weeks to put together a recruiting class. At that point, any H.S. player worthy investing in had already committed.

They're all hard-nosed tough players who are smart, but not the most athletic. Katz is trying to turn the program around much like Sperbeck is trying to do for football.

Smart? So they all went the JC route because of their high academic achievement?

All six were academic qualifiers out of H.S. and went the JC route for different reasons. One is a DII to JC to DI transfer, a couple didn't get scholarship offers and couldn't afford a 4-year institution's tuition. And the others had offers from lower divisions out of H.S. but wanted to try and play their way into a larger program.

I forgot how new the coach is, which makes this situation more amicable. Hopefully his future classes tend more towards high school kids, filled in with JC or transfers.

Yeah, Four of the Six are LOCAL PLAYERS. Something we haven't had since Jameel Pugh.

Do you really think those guys are going to elevate Sac past 7th place?

No, but I think Katz will have the program in contention for the Conference title in 3 years.

What is your definition of contention? If the 6th place team wins 1 game in the BSC Tourney they are in contention. Or, are you saying they will finish in the top 2 teams? If so, please PM me so we can arrange a wager.

I'll wager every egriz buck that I have (in the future) that by the conclusion of the 2010-2011 season Sac State will finish the regular season in the top 4 or make it to the BSC title game.

So you don't think the Griz could've won the title last year and weren't a "contender"?

Anyways, as a reformed compulsive gambler, I can only offer you play money. Or shave all the hair off my head or something.

No I didn't think the Griz could win the title last season. I certainly hoped they could get things together, but the chemistry clearly wasn't there, so it was hope more than anything. Sorry about your personal situation, but congrats and recognizing it and taking care of it. Let's just have a friendly bet then. #thumb

So a 4th place team is now a contender? Montana tied for 4th at 8-8 this season. Hardly waht I would call a contender. Sac State has an enrollment of nearly 30,000 and that is what you aspire to? Egriz bucks is not what I had n mind, PM me with a real bet.

#thumb

I got nothing, just wanted to be a part of this long, drawn-out quoting process. #laugh

Jared Stigall 5-10 160 Jr. G American River College

Aaron Wilson 6-6 215 So. F Delta College

No high school kids, and 5/6 recruits are juniors. Seems like this would make continuity of the program difficult. Is this a normal recruiting practice for Sac State, or is this year's class an anomaly?

New coach Brian Katz only had two weeks to put together a recruiting class. At that point, any H.S. player worthy investing in had already committed.

They're all hard-nosed tough players who are smart, but not the most athletic. Katz is trying to turn the program around much like Sperbeck is trying to do for football.

I forgot how new the coach is, which makes this situation more amicable. Hopefully his future classes tend more towards high school kids, filled in with JC or transfers.

Yeah, Four of the Six are LOCAL PLAYERS. Something we haven't had since Jameel Pugh.
