recruiting of new players has generated a great deal of interest here, as well it should, since recruiting is the lifeblood of a program and tinkle has shown a real knack for it.

but getting quality assistants is equally important, and here i hope tinks excels as well. promoting jeff hays will mean we have three young white assistants, none ready at this time to assume the role of head man at montana. i'll be looking for several qualifications:

1. experience. we lost our most experienced assistant in marso, and that experience needs to be replaced.
2. exceptional tactical knowledge, hopefully on defense. i'd even call the new guy, "defensive coordinator."
3. an african-american. not essential, but hey, c'mon!

i imagine the decision will be made soon, and i for one will be watching to see if tinks is as good with this choice as he is on the recruiting trail. no c.e.o. excels that doesn't surround himself with exceptional people.

Jeff Hays has interviews for H.S. jobs out in eugene Oregon at North Eugene H.S. and Marist H.S. North Eugene is Blake Stepps alma mater and is one of the better 4A programs in Oregon. Marist is a quality 3A program. Jeff finished his Master's in Ed so he is looking for the constistant pay of teaching and coaching in high school basketball. I'm pretty sure the jobs are assistant coaching jobs.

Tinks needs to find an assistant with atleast 5-6 years of D1 coaching experience. Marso didn't have that many years, and neither did the rest of the staff when they where hired.

WRONG (again)!!!!! Blake Stepp played at SOUTH EUGENE for his Dad, Dean Stepp. Not a suprise you are wrong again despite all the bragging you do about being so connected. Of course you said Tinks wouldn't get rid of Marso (wrong), and as of last week were promoting Hays for the assistant position at UM. Your LACK of knowledge is apparent everytime you post. #loser

I was told North Eugene and you are correct and yes Blake Stepp did play for his father Dean but, his father retired after Blake's senior year. The current head coach there is a gentlemen who used to coach pro ball in Australia. South Eugene's mascot is the axeman. Colors are Purple, White, and Black.

Griz Backer your strength in being the biggest tool alive is ever so apparent. Steak, Lobster, Merlot. Is that a gay pride flag on your tank? If anybody wants to just see how big of a tool Rich man GB1 is I'll forward you his steak, lobster, merlot PM. It's priceless like most of his statements are.

Oh, blaming your faux pas on someone else loser? Under every rock is someone like you, aka slime. Please keep enlightening us about all your connections. You might at least try to be accurate when you namedrop. You really do give yourself away as the fraud you are when you post your little "insider" bits that aren't even factually correct. You are batting about .00000000001. Do you really think anyone gives a shit about my PMs? You really are sgf aren't you, or do you two losers just share the rock? #loser

It is very difficult to find an assistant coach with 4-5 years D-1 experience for at best your 2nd assistant at a Big Sky school. That is also assuming that Hill will not move up to the second assistant role and Tinkle is hiring the third assistant. Think about it, where would he come from .... I am sorry, but in most coaches eyes prestige and money wise you just do not find many D-1 programs lower than Big Sky conference. So if that is your major hiring point, who are the coaches who are going to qualify. Well I guess #1) graduate assistants who have been hanging around places like Southern Utah, or Eastern Washington for 4-5 years, and I do not think that is is what you are shooting for or #2) an Assistants who have been fired / let go by other D-1 schools, again maybe not what you want.

Coaches want to move up. 2nd assistants want to become 1st assistants, or 2nd assistants at bigger schools. JC coaches want to move up to D-1 etc. The Griz first assistant spot is filled, for now, and that would be the big draw for an assistant coaches. I think Tinkle would be much better off looking for a young guy with some experience, but looks to be an up and comer. Someone with possibly Mid west recruiting connections and/or possibly links to the JC ranks. You bring in a guy who comes on board with lots of energy, and recruiting experience. You are not going to get the perfect guy, if he was he would already be coaching for a D-1 school. What you want is someone who you think can become the perfect guy, but at the same time add elements that compliment and add to the existing coaches strength and weaknesses.

Just a thought.

mslacat went to school in bozeman. but during a trip to washington griz a few years ago, while 20,000 slightly inebriated fans (the game hadn't started yet) were looking up transfixed at the skydivers, mslacat was knocked cold by an elbow to the temple and dragged off to dahlberg arena, where he was visited by the ghost of jiggs dahlberg, and in a brief but intense seance, brainwashed into becoming a griz fan. he calls himself "mslacat" but we in the know refer to him as "the mslacandidate." at critical recruiting times, we invite him into a poker game, where anytime he sees a diamond he feels compelled to go on-line tell us what "diamonds in the rough" the griz are recruiting, as that is the only recruit we ever get at montana, being a mid-major and all. one unfortunate consequence of the blow to the head: this former spelling bee champ totally lost his ability to spell, frequently forcing griz fans into a painstaking re-coding of his messages, but we always make the effort, because he's a great guy, always on the money, and always worth reading, and that's the true story of mslacat.

It's called a typo tool bag and they happen, just like there happens to be a North and South Eugene H.S. I watched South Eugene play in the OHSA state tourney in 2004. You don't believe me on Dave Hancock then do the research rich retarted man. Oh, sorry I ment retired. Shorty, that's funny that's what your wife tells me she calls you and I don't think she is talking about your height either. That's probably why you have a big picture of a tank and also why you have to wine and dine your wife with steak, lobster, and merlot to over-compenesate for certain short comings? Hmmm, can you say tool.

That's what I took it as was a typo SB don't worry about it Griz Backer has issues none of us will ever understand. He's the main reason why I don't come on here anymore. He has a fascination with pickle boy and accusing everyone as being a liar and poor compared to him. I think he is just an ole jock sniffer that can't over himself.

Can you guy's take this to the smack board, or better yet, just grow up!

BTW the Cat's just hired one of it's open Assitants spots Temesghen Starr and assistant coach from Marsheltown JC in Iowa was just hired. He is a young coach who has been coaching at Marsheltown for three years and was a high school coach in California before that, and very involved in California AAU basketball. I believe he will take Dirden's spot, look for a west coach D-1 assistant to be hired soon as a our 1st assistant soon.
