Riots? I think you are giving apathetical Americans a lot of credit. So many people are sleepwalking through life as it is, they won't get passionate about squat.

The REAL concern is the rising cost of tailgate food and the incessent need of Big One 25 to eat everything but the charcoal briquets out of the barbecue...

The reason BO25 hasn't been posting is he has been trying new recipes for briquettes, and hasn't found one to his liking as of yet. Mark my words, nothing will be safe this season.

Yeah, good point
Born A Griz in 75, Played under the stands of Dornblazer in 85, Moved to Seattle in 86... You can take me away from Montana, but you cant take the Montana away from me
And some of us are so insane, we're going to haul a trailer to and from Alaska this summer, to work as campground hosts. We figure our gas costs alone will be $1000 each way ... and we're retired!!! Of course, our gas costs to go to a Griz game are somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.00, so what would we have to complain about?!?!

We're skipping So. Utah and Central WA this year and probably won't make the PSU game for the first time in a long time. PSU will be a game day call, but So. Utah and Central WA aren't worth the price of gas, not in September when there's still a lot of fun things to do closer to home.

My intent is not to hijack this thread but here is my response. I just returned with my daughter last weekend and it cost me 74.00 to bring her home from UM. So it is not cheap. There have already been many that have discussed what it costs to attend the game so nothing new from me.
Here is my point. If the product on the field is entertaining and exciting then it will be worth it no matter what the gas does. I already have the tickets so it is use them or sell them to someone else per game. If the product is not good and I can watch them on tv thereby saving a lot of money plus subsidizing my ticket outlay then I will do that. The only thing that will make staying home difficult is that it is a good opportunity to visit my daughter and enjoy the weekend.

Your daughter has wild house parties when you stay in Great Falls!
The crew that I associate with are considering, Amtrak, for the PSU game, look forward to it, have a drink something to eat, and even take a little nap, without stopping.
And in the event of a loss, stay completely shitfaced all the way to Whitefish.
If you make it down to the Portland State game you can save some gas money by taking the MAX (http://trimet.org/max/index.htm) it goes from the Airport to downtown to PGE!
Airline tickets on Southwest only cost around $120 from Spokane.
High gas prices might be a good excuse to get 20 friends together and rent a party bus!

I expect to see some bus trips organized for road games this year. Could be a real relieve to safe money for the fans that attended road games. Which there are many.

coming from Shelby it will effect me. When you look at driving 230 miles one way, staying overnight (hotels stick it to you being Griz weekend) and food, you are talking about a spendy weekend for one game. With two kids, making 7 home game with the cash outlay that is needed will keep me home more.
The tent is now yours. I kicked out Ronbo just for you...

So, I'll just stay at Bronco's guest shack and call it all good-

Just remember sleep on your back and keep your mouth shut. It's a great place indeed. BTW I lost my pet python the last time I was there. I think it's behind the TV stand. Bring quarters for the magic fingers too.

Nightmares from Chatty???
I guess not...I'd be shocked if you remembered anything from that trip! Hope you left your credit card for Bronco's magic fingers, I hear he installed a card swiper since he needs to get his teeth fixed!

Well we were planning on three trips back home this year (Memorial Day, 4th of July and one Griz game) from the Willamette Valley area but just a couple days ago have cut it back to one trip just for the 4th of July. Fuel prices stink plain and simple and I think everyone has cut back. Add on food costs, the credit market and all and all this year has sucked so far!!!!!
I was recently let go from a job I had for 8 years as a project manager building homes due to the housing market down turn. We lasted longer than many but talk about crushing..
But what do you do? For the most part all of this is out of our control and up to our Goverment to figure out.
Me on fuel yes we need to do more on other energy sources for sure but we have our troops in another country RICH with oil and we are paying for fuel there to liberate a country and high fuel prices at home. Do I have a problem with being a paid mercenary NO>>>

This year was only going to be a one game event anyway for us this year because I have to drive to Oklahoma around the 4th of July (Gaaagh!) There's a trip to Billings as well in late August but I may fly Horizon for that one. Of course I'll be at the PSU game hoping to meet some of you in person.
The upside is if you are in the market for a great deal on an SUV this would be the year to get one.

No offense, but if you are going to wait for the government to take care of you, then you are in deep doodoo. People need to take responsibility for themselves in my opinion. Gas prices are still cheap compared to the rest of the non OPEC world. I think we could all see it coming, some prepared, some didn't. Sorry about your job, but you will land on your feet. Good luck.

When I was at UM, SuperAmerica (I think they are called Holiday now) was running a special. With a 10-gallon fill up, they were selling 6-packs of Burgie Beer (I know, that stuff was like drinking kerosene) for 69 cents. I remember laughing with my buds because the 10 gallons came to something like 6.40 and the 10 6-packs that we bought came to 6.90. Looking at it today, the beer is still more expensive....10 gallons = 40 bucks or so; 10 six packs (of something drinkable) = 60 bucks or more. Hmmm, good argument against drinking and driving.
I'm planning on going to Cheney and Portland this upcoming season and tentatively planning to beg and borrow to get Griz/Cat tickets and if the Griz make the playoffs and get a home game, sticking around through Thanksgiving for the 1st round game. Pretty much business as usual, it will just cost more....I'll budget accordingly.

LONG ANSWER: 10$ a gallon gasoline could be crippiling to our economy, traveling long distances for griz games would have ended long before it reaches 10$ a gallon. The price of food and the price of oil are directly linked. The production of food requires petroleum products at every step of the way. The tilling of the soil and planting of crops (fuel for the machines), fertilizer is made from petroleum, insectisides are made from petroleum, harvesting requires fuel, then transport. The reason cereal is more expensive now then it was a year ago is because of the increase in price of oil. Airlines are already having trouble paying thier fuel bills. If the price of oil continues to climb, air travel out of missoula might become scarce at best. Airlines are already reducing flights in missoula. The cost of shipping is increasing which will inevitable result in higher prices for goods at best buy and costco, or any store that doesn't sell local prodcucts. The list of conections to your cost of living and the price of oil are endless. As the price of oil increases, your expendable income will decrease and it doesn't just come from pumping gas. People need to understand the externalities of the high price of oil, then they will understand the possible consequeces of our inaction. If we as a counrty do not start to make shifts in our life style, then we are in deep troubel. I live in Kalispell, and right now it cost 50$ for me to drive to Missoula and back. That is not acceptable to me. I have two choices, one is to get a new car that gets better gas mileage, the other is to reduce my trips. Becasue my car is paid off, I am going with option 2 because it doesnt make sense for me to increase my expenses paying off a car loan, to reduce the amount of money I spend on fuel. As a result, I might come down for a regular season game, and if there is a home playoff game I will be in town for turkeyday anyways so I will make that game. I was thinking about adding a seat onto my parents season tickets and going to all the games but that got scrapped a few months ago because of 1 reason, the price of gas.
SHORT ANSWER: YES, the price of gas as it is right now will reduce the number of griz games I am planing to attend.
