Okay, so I bought this new vehicle and it came stock with a Mach 300 6 CD changer.. the sound in this vehicle was incredible. Great bass, great sound.. all stock. But I plugged in a MP3 CD and found out that it wouldn't play MP3s.. so I figure, why not get a new deck, I want something I can hook an MP3 player up to and play MP3s on CD. I go to Best Buy and buy a Kenwood deck.. about $160. I had them install it because I have no desire to touch things that may potentially break something expensive. I get in the vehicle, fiddle around with the audio settings and they don't sound quite right.. so after more fiddling around when I get home I come to the conclusion that this new deck has absolutely no bass. No bass is coming through my speakers that once was with my stock deck. So my question.. think the guy that installed it did something wrong or ...? I've never had a deck sound this bad in a vehicle before.. kind of off-putting. Ideas? Suggestions?

A couple ideas.....
1) The stock CD player probably ran through an amplifier in the system. Most new cars with nicer sound systems have an amplifier somewhere in the loop. There are also component cards that route certain frequencies to different speakers. Your new deck probably has a more powerful built-in amplifier that was designed to run straight to the speakers & not through the factory amplifier/component cards.
2) They probably installed bass blockers to protect your factory speakers. Once again, after market decks have more powerful built-in amplifiers. Bass blockers filter out the lower end frequencies that can blow speakers if they are receiving too much power.
3) Your new deck may even have a built-in high pass frequency filter that you can turn off and on. Check your manual for what audio controls are available. The built in equalizers and filters of modern day decks can be a little confusing.
4) If this is a 2008 model, they may not have the proper wiring harness yet to match up all the components and feeds correctly. If this was the case, they used the closest available which may not be 100% functional.
Take it back to Best Buy. Ask if they put on bass blockers - if so, that's the problem. You can have them removed, but you may blow the factory speakers if you listen to your music loud on a regular basis.
Anyway, Best Buy installation is guaranteed and they should fix the problem. Tell them whats wrong and they should be able to figure it out.
Took it back.. there was another harness (or some sort of cabling) that didn't get hooked up last night. Amazing the difference when it's hooked up.. like a real sound system now. Whatever the cable was, it wasn't turning the bass on. Now it sounds great... now I gotta figure out the clock....
Thanks for the suggestions GymRat........ and GGG ( )
