Just got my Spring 2008 Montanan magazine. There is an interesting article on "Suiting Up"

Quote:
Today's Grizzlies may have up to five pairs of shoes depending on field and weather conditions. The now also have practice uniforms, workout gear, custom-fitted helmets that are adjusted before and during every game, and several Nike game-day uniforms....

...And the budget? Outfitting one Grizzly football player today costs $1,500.

Now, is that what it might cost retail? I would think that there are sponsors or something like that and some of the equipment might not cost a thing since the logo is showing. I am probably wrong, but that would make sense. And I would think that the school would bid that stuff otherwise or be able to get lower contracts. Then again it's a state entity and we all know how efficient they are at times...

I was in at Universal a while back. The new helmets can run to almost $500.00 by themselves.

Quite a change from the old Riddell brain buckets.

I saw that too. Frankly I was stunned- that it was that cheap!

My Schutt Air helmet cost $275 back in 2000... Luckily, besides personal protection pads / neck roll / rib pads etc, the team provided everything else... I'd say I spent about $400 on gear total...
