On tickets - I talked with the ticket office at the UM and they said tickets would be available through them after the 1st of July.

Firestone Grill is a good place. Good food (Burgers, steaks ect...) and walking distance to a lot of other bars if you get bored.

I was looking at the possibility of going to the game and I've done some investigation on travel.

The problem with Allegiant is the small number of flights. Missoula-to-Vegas flights are 10:45 AM Thurs and Sun. Vegas-to-Missoula flights are 6:55 AM, Sun and Thurs. Flights from Santa Maria to Vegas get in at 9:20 PM on Sun. Therefore, you have to stay in Vegas till very early on Thursday. Total costs: $336 for air travel, plus luggage, plus a week of hotels, mostly in Vegas.
Msla to LV: $198 RT
LV to Santa Maria: $138 RT

You can't fly to Phoenix as an alternate because there are no flights to California or Las Vegas on Allegiant. Flights to Phoenix are Mon and Fri, and the Fri flight arrives at 9:35 PM ($208 + luggage). Mon departure is 3:55 PM. To get to Vegas from Phoenix would require another airline (roughly $165). Or you could fly directly to SLO on another airline. $288 from Phoenix RT. But remember that you would use two different airports about 25-30 miles apart.

Drive to San Luis Obispo

Missoula 1,343 mi – about 19 hours 47 mins
Denver 1,152 mi – about 17 hours 32 mins
Seattle 1,019 mi – about 15 hours 57 mins
Phoenix 573 mi – about 8 hours 45 mins
Las Vegas 406 mi – about 6 hours 51 mins
San Francisco 231 mi – about 3 hours 47 mins
Sacramento 288 mi – about 4 hours 42 mins
Los Angeles 202 mi – about 3 hours 19 mins

Distances from San Luis Obispo

Santa Maria (39 mi, 43 min)
Oxnard (143 mi, 2 hrs 26 min)
Santa Barbara (100 mi, 1 hr 43 min)
Bakersfield (130 mi, 2 hrs 34 min)
Burbank, N of LA (196 mi, 3 hrs 19 min)
LAX (206 mi, 3 hrs, 23 min)
Fresno (137 mi, 2 hrs, 43 min)

For the adventurous...

Postby LAGriz67 on Sun Jul 13, 2008 1:01 am

Probably the very best dining place in the entire Central Coast and still very affordable is the BIG SKY CAFE in downtown Slotown.. Trust me, I am 40 pounds over weight and I know fine places..this is one of the best....The Big Sky has nothing to do with Montana, though the owner now knows about Montana and the dwarves...
As for getting to SLO...if you can't fly, why not fly into SF or Monterey or Burbank in the South and catch the Coast train..It lets you off downtown and is a gorgeous drive...no matter what the outcome of the game, this would be one trip you would never forget...providing it isn't on fire, that is....Go Griz....wish I were in Butte for the Folk Festival...alas...

Flying into SF or LA and taking the train is a great idea. SF to SLO is gorgeous if it isn't all converted to CO2 by then.

If your choice is between SF and LA I would definately go through SF.

When I have gone to Missoula I have flown out of Santa Barbara though Salt Lake. Santa Barbara is about a one hour forty minute drive from SLO or you could catch the train there.

Flying to SF from Missoula might be shorter and cheaper than flying to LA. However, if I've reading the schedule correctly, it looks like a much longer train ride from SF than LA. That would be fine if you're doing some siteseeing, but if time is important it might not be so good.

This is what I think I'm seeing:

LA to San Luis Obispo: $60 RT, 2:30 hrs each way
SF to San Luis Obispo: $60 RT, 7.5-8 hrs each way

Santa Barbara to San Luis is 2 hours and 42 minutes. $18 each way. Flight from Missoula through Salt Lake to Santa Barbara. Not a bad way to go.

I doubt anyone cares, but the article mentions that Cal Poly plays South Dakota St. and North Dakota St., which is not true they play the university of South Dakota and university of North Dakota. South Dakota St. is a possibility, but I know they do not play the Bison. Watch out for Cal Poly, because they are going to be tuff this year. Good luck in the up coming season and the Bison hope to see ya in the playoffs.........damn wouldn't that be a great game! We are finally eligible so you never know it could happen.

Very possible as the MVC will be considered a West Conference and we could see you here or you could see us there. We seem to get SLC and Gateway teams in the playoffs every season.

Quick Round Trip

Postby tcurtin on Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:10 pm

Here are the details for our trip to SLO:

Leave Fri from Great Falls on Allegient
spend about 9 hours in Vegas
Fly to SLO via United Sat morning arriving before Noon
Time to pregame party and catch the game, postgame
Stay night in SLO and fly out Sunday morning back to LV
Spend 24 hours in LV before catching Monday afternoon flight
back to Great Falls on Allegient

Quick, but worth it.

You can call the UM Ticket office, or wait until mid-August to get single-game admission tickets from CP-SLO. PM me if you have more questions.

No tickets till after August 15...;

Postby LAGriz67 on Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:00 pm

to those wishing to know...CalPoly will not be issuing tickets to UM or anyone else until at least 8/15. Since so few will be available, there will be a "stampede", as they put it, for both CP and Griz fans...those CP fans taking the Mustang trip to San Diego State will get preference....doesn't look too good for Griz fans....

I got the same message from Poly's athletic department in an e-mail yesterday. I got the idea that they have been very surprised at the demand for tickets coming from Montana fans.

LAGriz67 wrote:Slotown is great anytime...but with the students there into Mustang football, it is going to be a loud crowd in a newly redone stadium....I hope Montana has as large a turnout as they did last time in SLO. I would suggest getting hotel rooms reserved now as there are many other things going on up there as well....Pismo Beach and Avila are strong back ups if you can get there...The real concern, and it is new for Cal Poly, is how to get tickets before they are sold out..if they aren't now, they will be.....it is a different time for the FCS in California. It is getting more press, more attention, and more fans tired of the scandals of USC, the failures at Stanford and the letdowns at Berkley....San Diego State will probably lose to Cal Poly the week before this game....the Griz are in for a fight...but should be able to handle it...i.e. if they have learned to vary the offence or throw a ball or two....

Vary the offense or throw a ball or two?

The Griz offense finished 2007 as the 23rd ranked total offense (out of about 120 teams), averaged 415.3 yards a game.

You act like they just ran the ball all the time. When if fact they were very balanced...ranked 30th in passing (235.8 yards a game) and ranked 38th in rushing (179.5 yards a game).

purchased 5 tickets from the um ticket office friday afternoon. they do not have the tickets yet - will let people know when they receive them so we can pick them up. the gal told me they do not want to mail them as they are not um's tickets and if they were to get lost in the mail there is nothing the um ticket office could do about it.

we are driving to salt lake, flying to long beach - spending a couple of days in the l.a. area - taking the kids to disney and a dodger game on friday. then up to san luis obispo saturday morning for the game - back home in butte on monday.

Ditto on the last response. I ordered my three tickets from the UM. Have to check with the UM to see when they arrive to pick up.
