Rasmussen to leave Cats

Postby Greg O on Fri Jun 06, 2008 8:46 pm

Just got word that Jordan Rasmussen is leaving the 'Cats... details aren't full yet. But I dont think he was going to see much playing time behind Iddins and Kempt.

Interesting. I thought he would compete for the starting QB position in the fall. I assume that he felt underappreciated due to the cats bringing in two experienced quartebacks to compete against him. He can only assume that coach Ash is not a big fan.

QB Rasmussen to leave Bobcats

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) -- A sophomore who was vying for the starting quarterback position at Montana State is leaving the team.

Jordan Rasmussen informed head coach Rob Ash of his decision Friday. Spokesman Bill Lamberty confirmed the move to Bozeman television station KTVM.

The redshirt sophomore was in a dead heat for the starting position with junior college transfer Mark Iddins.

Earlier this week, Oregon quarterback Cody Kempt signed scholarship papers to transfer to MSU. He redshirted at Oregon in 2006 and played sparingly last fall, completing six passes for 52 yards. He also rushed eight times for 21 yards.

It was unclear if Rasmussen would leave MSU altogether.

The Griz will have 5 full scholarship QB's which I think is 2 too many. Three full scholarship QB's at any time with a fourth that plays DB or WR. An emergency option so to speak. Having 4 schollies riding the pine at one position is ridiculous. We're not I-A with 85 schollies.

I guess we should just have 3 ready to play and none being developed eh ronbo. There are seasons the Griz have gone through 3 QB's. 5 is about right. Ask ANY college FB coach and they will agree. As for the kittens, they are now at 7 I believe. Word is 2 are going to change positions, which would leave them at 5, as it should be. :twocents:

May not be anything more than message board speculation, but two different posters on BN are saying a couple more casualties forthcoming . If true, maybe there are some issues in kittyland.

well ash has a lot more trouble to deal with this summer. it isnt speculation there are more causalities than jordan rassmussen. the cats will be missin a few important players on the team. im sure ash will eventually announce it. but lets see how he handles what will be out soon enough

two of the larger players on the team. one d-line and one o-line. deduce from there. one has had academic issues and the other i am uncertain why he chose to leave after starting last year.

How many players have left the Grizzly football team? I think its 3. Are there some "issues" in Missoula?

Almighty Grizbacker reeled me in. It seems the Griz are having the same issues as the Cats so he resorts to childish smack just like he does on the Cat/Griz insider.

Rasmussen is off to Fresno to a JC. Article in today's Chronicle...no hard feelings, he wants to play right now and is pretty much the guaranteed starter down there...

The new QB coming in from Oregon, I was told, just wasn't a good fit for their offense and felt that MSU gave him a good chance to start. I think the new coach is willing to try a little house cleaning and placing his own stamp on the program...Not a bad thing-

By the way, saw Kung Fu Panda today with my kid. Lesson learned: the bear will always beat the cat, especially if he looks like Chump... :thumb:

There are no issues in Missoula as KMD may suggest. The two defensive backs that left left for personal reasons. One of them wanted to get back home closer to his family and the other did not enjoy being in Missoula. Nothing wrong with that. They will both be putting their stamp on other programs. And both will be very good football players and have professional football potential.

I think the professional football potential is a major stretch, especially for Brown. :twocents:

According to a regular poster on BN, Smith, Miller, and Hoffenbacker are done due to academic issues. Needless to say that hurts their depth with 2 OL and 1 DL loss. I can't imagine that helps the APR either.

Smith, Miller & Hoffenbacker are gone due to academics. Solid source I talked to this morning at the Denver airport on my way to Chicago.
