Not up on this subject too much, but was wondering what the timetable is to its expansion to say....the 22,000 , 27 , or 28,000 that that has been discussed, and whether or not it will get to that size while most of us are still able to sit up and take nourishment on our own. Is the funding in place ? Would appreciate someone in the "Know" to elaborate......Thanks.

Just wondering....when will the grizzlies get out of the first round next?

Anyone else care to elaborate....Thanks.

From everything I have read over here in Kitty country, the timetable is a 15 year pan and no the funding is not in place at this time. The work on the new surface has started and should be done before the first home game this fall.

By the time they are up to the 22,000 figure we will have outgrown all the expansions possible and will be looking for an entire new stadium.

If Bobcat Stadium were a professional venue it would already be replaced with a new one before the expansion was even finished. But then college teams don't have spoiled owners who can threaten to move the team unless they get their way.....waaaaaaa....with a new stadium full of pricey luxury suites.

When the big story came out didn't they say 19,000 in up to 20 years?

I'm thinking it's sort of a strategy to get people's check books out. Get them all excited with elaborate "master plans" and pictures and computer generated models, then drop a ridiculously long time-frame at the end. Fans get all excited first and then discouraged, they'll whip out the $ to speed up the process. Especially the wealthier boosters in the older age bracket who really want to see it done and enjoy it in their lifetime.

I think 12-15 years is a realistic time-frame. Especially if Ash is able to mold them into a respectable program again. There's money and sports fans in Bozeman. They just need to be consistently good and consistently out of the police blotter.

remember that exspanion is not only the stadium, but an indoor facility, and an academic building, i believe. i would assume that the actual stadium would be done before some other things.

I know kitty fan loves to do so (see BN) , but Griz fans should never mention police blotters.

This year field turf will be installed.
Next year the luxory boxes on the the students side will be installed (we already have the money for that).

After that everything becomes a crapshoot. It would probably take 3 more years of selling out games before they expand the seating in the southern endzone by taking out the temporary bleachers and bowling in the stadium with the lower level seats.

A new academic center and indoor practice facility would probably go next on the list in 10-12 years. The main key will be if Coach Ash can continue to win in the Big Sky. Considering we have had our longest stretch of winning seasons since the 70's, we are making pretty good progress. Getting the new lease agreement approved by the State enabling the MSU Alumni Foundation to handle the improvements to the stadium will really help in the future to fasttrack items which we have the money for.

Either way, Whatever they do in the next few years.......It will only make Kitty Stadium just a hair above a high school field. I grew up in Miles City and Football games there are ten times more exciting. And What College "Stadium" Has Wooden Bleachers? More power to em' It's about time they did something.

Come on guys. There are dozens and dozens of inferior stadiums in FCS. Bobcat stadium is nice compared to most. Even the Tub in Deleware is rundown with a tiny scoreboard and no luxury boxes. I would rank the Bobcats as almost as good as Weber right now and better than the rest of the Big Sky.

I hope that the Bobcats will be able to upgrade - just not quite as nice as Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

Yep, once they get PHASE 1-3 in place with the new field/boxes the next expansions will be done using money from the income of the boxes! PHASE 1-3 should all be done in the next 4 years and those are the big pieces. Once the 40 some new boxes are in place the $$$ will roll in and MSU will have the means to expand the stadium over the next 5-10 years (just like the Griz have been doing over the last 20 years) as the demand for seating grows.

Definately looking forward for PHASES 1-3 to get put in place and then things should take off on the other faces every 3-4 years I would think.

Good luck, You are basing all this on a LOT of assumptions, the most important one being whether Ash can truly build a contender. I think the jury is still out on that one. I am not convinced yet. :twocents:

I know the subject of fuel costs relative to game attendance has been discussed on other threads but I think the Cats (and the griz and many other colleges as well) are going to see attendance drop due to fuel costs, especially if they keep rising.

As people have stated, instead of attending all home games, they may attend only half, or less. It's also going to cost teams a lot more to travel, either by bus or airplane. If attendance/game day revenue (concessions, gear sales, etc.) drops and travel costs continue upward, there gets to be a point where it becomes a permanent problem.

So, in regard to the Bobcat Stadium improvements, the turf will be in a few weeks and the skyboxes that already have the required cash on hand will be built next year and then I suspect that will be it for a while, regardless of the W-L record. Of course, as I posted on BN, if the powers that be don't get the APR problem under control, then the Cats will be "cordially invited" by the NCAA to move to DII because of failure to meet DI academic requirements. There are still some who think the NCAA wouldn't do that - I strongly believe they will. I don't think they are kidding about the whole academic/APR thing and by the time the Cats learn that lesson it will be too late. If that happens, then the whole stadium expansion issue will become moot. The good news is the Cats will have one of the best stadiums in DII for its 5,000 fans to sit in.
