Players and buses all over Rocky. Seems to be well attended

Do any AA teams also go the the Griz camp anymore?

There was an article in the Gazette a few days ago. Sounds like all but 2-3 teams are attending. Also stated that Daylis Stadium wouldn't fit any more teams so they wouldn't/couldn't let any more teams come.

I don't think so, the coaches here make good money putting on this camp.

Billings teams only started going to UM around 1996. Before that it was Colorado State and Wyoming.

Most teams are attending this camp instead of the Griz camp due to cost. UM charges a lot of money and , as a AA coach said to me, the kids dont' get any better fundamentals then they are getting in Billings.

If I remember right, Eck doesn't have the B.S. kids go to a team camp. They have their own camp in the summer, but he steadfastly believes the summers are for kids. That was as of a couple of years ago. Thinsg may have changed...

As for the AA camp, best decision for the AA schools. As I know from a few years back, the decision was made to minimize costs and get better coaching opportunities for the kids. The camp was not created as a money making venture.

Didn't catch that about ROCKY. The AA camp is at Daylis, I believe.

On a side note, I was at Scheels Sunday afternoon and there were two cop cars outside the main Scheels entrance. There were four kids waiting for the fifth that got caught stealing FB gloves. These four were told, while I was checking out, that their buddy would have to be released to an adult, not them, and they needed to "run along".

So maybe there is another camp in town?

add msu to to the list, for the same reasons. I find it interesting Jack Johnson took his team to the Griz camp, despite not having a close friendship with BH, and the higher cost, so must be something there he likes.

Only one team attended the Griz Camp? Wouldn't it be better to scap the HS Camp and the Griz do a really quality Youth Camp like so many Universities do? In Minnesota my Grandson (6th grader) attends the University of Minn. camp run by the University Coaches in early summer and then he attends the HS Youth Camp in the fall just before the season starts, that camp is run by the Coaches of the High School he'll be attending.

If Missoula High Schools were smart they would groom the youth to make their programs stronger. They should......

1. Coordinate with the Little Grizzly Football to divide teams by school district boundries so that the same kids play together from Grade School through High School.

2. HS Coaches should work with Little Grizzly Coaches and have them run simplified but similar Offenses an Defenses to the High School the kids will attend.

3. The Griz should offer an intense Youth Camp in the summer that gives the 5th through 8th graders a camp similar to the one the HS kids get but without pads. More funtamentals.

4. The High Schools should run a late summer camp for youth. Here is the one my Grandson attends. It's just $50 for 4 days.

If Missoula did this stuff they would have top five teams year in and year out.

I don't think that is allowed, but I could be wrong. Even if it was, most schemes are still your basic I-formation offenses that little kids are taught anyhow. I think the kids in Billings and Helena are just more into football than the ones in Missoula. Plus, having a larger student population helps.

There were lots of teams at the UM football camp. They were around dorms, the practice fields and the stadium. CMR was definitely there. A number of players went from the UM team hoops camp straight to the football camp on Sunday.

The Griz camp sure seemed to have a lot of kids to me. CMR was there in force as were full teams from N. Idaho and E. Wash. One group that I spoke with was from Westlake High in the Spokane area. Had to have been 40 of them at least. Cost was $275 indiv., $225 for team indiv.. That's room and board incl. for 3 nights.
I'd rather be fishing.

Little Griz working with the Highs School coaches, running the same offense, dividing along school lines...

I know part of the reason the U does the HS level camp is for recruiting in a way. Take Lex going into his senior season at Flathead, he was pulled aside to talk to the coaches multiple times that I saw. Idk if he would have thought about going elsewhere if it hadn't been for Griz camp...who knows, but glad he chose the Griz.

And I'm for developing the youth too but the coaches only have so much time on their hands...

If you go look you'll see many Universities run two camps. The Youth Camp and the HS Camp. It's revenue.

Here's U of Minnesota's they do 2 HS sessions, a Kicking Camp and a Youth Camp. I'm sure their Coaches are as busy as ours, but are taking the time to develop the talent and make money for the program.

My boys are at the MSU Youth camp in Billings right now, wearing their Griz jerseys, just like last year. :thumb:

As many KIDS as there was at the Spring game here last year, I think the Griz could have a very successful youth camp here. :twocents:

Running a football camp with a combine might be a great way to make $ for the football program, plus it might also get the university an edge on some recruits. A campus visit with the recruits paying for it. Check this out: http://www.myindianafootball.com/combin ... n=hotitems
