UM associate AD decides to resign
Great Falls Tribune
MISSOULA -- Marie Porter, who served as interim athletic director at Montana for two months this year after Wayne Hogan quit, is resigning her post as associate AD. She announced her decision this week and will stay at UM until Aug. 15.
Porter said she is leaving the job to spend more time with her family. She and her husband, Mark, have two young boys, Henry (5) and Grant (4).
"I want to be perfectly clear that this decision is purely personal in nature," said Porter, who will stay in Missoula. "This opportunity arose out of some things that transpired for my husband professionally, which gave us a chance to look at how we are living at home, and how we want to live at home.
"This gives me a chance to be at home with our young sons."
Don Read, who became athletic director in late May, will begin a search immediately for Porter's replacement.
"I regret that I won't have more time to work with Don Read as the athletic director," said Porter. "He has already provided great leadership for the department. He is a great motivator and a great people person, and I could learn a lot from him."
Porter has been at UM since 1992. She began as coordinator of academic services, and was named associate AD in 1996. She supervised all women's sports programs at the university.

Dickenson has knee repaired again
By the Associated Press
GREAT FALLS - British Columbia Lions quarterback Dave Dickenson, an All-American at the University of Montana nine years ago, has undergone minor knee surgery.
The operation was performed Tuesday in Vancouver, British Columbia, to repair a tear. An orthopedic surgeon for the Lions, Dr. Bob McCormack, performed the operation, Dickenson's third surgical procedure in seven months.
Head coach Wally Buono said Dickenson will miss Friday's home game against the Edmonton Eskimos. The coach was hopeful Dickenson will be ready for the Lions' next game, a July 22 contest at Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Lions are idle next week.
Dickenson, who is from Great Falls, reinjured his knee last week while throwing a 68-yard touchdown pass against the Saskatchewan Rough Riders.
Dickenson was hit in the legs by a defensive lineman as he released the pass. Just a few minutes earlier, Dickenson made back-to-back rushes for first downs.
The Lions are 1-2 this season, with their lone victory coming at Edmonton, Alberta, when Dickenson threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions remain tied for first place in the Western Division, deadlocked with Calgary and Saskatchewan.
For the season, Dickenson has completed 28 of 46 passes for 503 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions.
Last season, he was among the top passers in the Canadian Football League, with 5,496 yards, 36 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
