I also read that NBC will show a few games. Thank god for the feed from Detroit here.

That's good news! Maybe I'll get lucky and Bresnan will carry it here on the Rattlesnake feed. I've asked but have gotten no answers. Ever since they scooped up the Cable Montana contracts (me), I've had nothing but problems from them. My entire cable feed was gone last weekend. Very frustrating considering how much they charge us. :-?

BTW- I think NHL 2Nite was a great show, but I don't think it had enough pull to be a topliner on ESPN. Might have been Barry Melrose's suits! :o

Just a little bump here, but great start to the playoffs. Anytime the Red Wings win in OT is good for me. Grizavs fan what is up with your Avalanache? If they only played all year like that!

Sorry I'm late getting back on topic, no Internet on the weekends. Loved the 2OT game on Friday.

So what happened to Detroit yesterday (4/23)? Things were looking great at the start, and then I went out to do some errands and came back and it was 4-2 Edmonton. 1-1. :o

As to the Avs, geez, I have NO idea. If we played like that all year, we'd should have been pushing Detroit for the President's Cup. As it was, I was just wringing my hands and praying during the final regular season games. I'm hoping that they have playoff fever and keep it up for a while. Lots of players seem to be showing that spark again. Of course Games 2-4 will tell if that is playing out... Lots of series are 1-1 at the moment...Here's hoping Turco and the Stars continue to have an off day. :thumb:

What a game last night. The Avs took a 3-0 lead, only to fall behind 4-3 late in the 3rd. Brett Clark scored a nice short handed goal to send the game into OT, where Sakic scored the game winner. Now the Avs are up 2-0 and the series is heading back to Denver.

Not sure, but I was pretty sure our teams just traded jerseys in the first two periods....YEESH! A hair-tearing exercise for both teams. I just about needed oxygen when Blake got called for delay of game when we were tied at the end of the 3rd. But overall...I'll take 2-0 heading into home ice. Can't wait for Games 3 & 4! :bounce:

Anybody else notice that the teams that won yesterday all are 2-0, while all the teams that won on Sunday are 1-1. Found that kind of interesting. Makes me wonder how that is going to eventually play out. :o

I love it. I stay up until two in the morning to watch my Wings and then they have to lose. Having to wake up two hours later only made the pain worse.

Grizavsfan---I think with the Red Wings right now its the curse of the Presidents Cup. They have a rough playoff season any year they win it. Schneider and Lidstrom have not been very effective at all. I don't know why they haven't carried over great seasons into the quest for the Stanley Cup. Edmonton plays a tough defense and is not letting the Wings penetrate on offense at all. The only bright spot has really been Maltby and Zetterberg. If the Wings go down to 3-1 in the series, I say throw Osgood in the net. They have nothing more than one game to lose and everything to gain.

Sounds like my schedule. I have to be at my job by 5:30am. When the games don't get over until late (can you say overtime?)...it makes it really interesting. You can tell all the hockey fans in the building tho! We all have that "I'm not tired, really..give over that coffee" look. :morning: But in our case, we're happy! Avs are 3-0, yanked out another one in overtime last night. Got to love our scorers, cause Theo still isn't quite up to speed. (Morning coffee subject #4.)

I'm all for changes if it looks like something isn't working. It may be the spark everyone, including Legace, needs. As they say, this Series isn't over yet. We'll see how they do tonight! It's desperation time. Rexall Place can be a really hard place to play too. Those Canadians love their playoff hockey, and it's been a LOONG time since it's been in Edmonton.

Great win for your Avs last night. In hockey it is dang near impossible to come back from down 3-0. Stranger things have happened but it looks like you should be good to go for the second round. For Theodore to only have 19 saves shows you had a good defense last night.

Tonight is put up or shut up for the Wings. You are right on about hockey fans in Edmonton. That place was rocking the other night. I was talking with one of my friends at work last night and he summed it all up. He gave the "I'm doing not as well as the Pistons but better than the Wings." Should be a good game tonight though.

I'm hoping for a 4-0 sweep, but stranger things have happened trying to close out a series. I think it would be great to end this round on home ice.

Man, Defense. I've been consistently impressed by the Avs defensemen all season, and they have just put the pedal down for the post-season. The Avs D have easily half of our playoff goals so far, I hope they keep it up. BTW- I think the Wing's Nik Lidstrom is going to take the Norris Trophy, he's a heck of a defenseman.

grizfaninkalamazoo wrote:Tonight is put up or shut up for the Wings.

Wings have been SOO close in the last couple of games, barring bad bounces, I think they can pull it together. Heck, they HAVE to pull it together. I really hope Yzerman is going to be able to play too, your guys need him to lead on the bench. Get all your big guns firing and skating with speed like earlier in the season.

I haven't been in Rexall Place when it is sold-out, (although the TV coverage last night gave me a pretty good idea) but I have been in the Saddledome when the Flames were sold-out and the fans were ready to rumble. We were hoarse and mostly deaf after a couple of back-to-back regular season games there. I'm told playoffs is a radically different level of "loud".

The Rexall Place when they showed it gave me the feeling of a Manchester United soccer game. It looked like it was shaking in there.

Hey Kalamazoo! Congrats to your Red Wings!

Things have to be looking up in Hockeytown today. Lidstrom got the game winner too. Very nice. Sorry to see Yzerman did not play, but at least he skated the warmups. Maybe he'll be back for Game 5. Now your series is down to best 2 of 3, think they can do it?

Avs play Game 4 tonight, so we'll see if they can close this out at home. Looks like alot of the other teams from last night are now all tied up too. Should be an interesting weekend. :thumb:

Production at work suffered today. I get a call from my friend and he tells me Edmonton is up 1-0. A bit later I get another call. I asked who scored for the Wings and he says they didn't, that Edmonton did.

Game 6 will be tough. I'm sure Oiler fans will be at the ready to celebrate a series winner. It's time to see what my Wings are made of. Oh and so much for my thoughts on benching Legace. i sure as hell don't want a guy who was playing in Grand Rapids last week to be in goal.

Avs finally manged to finish off Dallas, 3-2 in OT again.

I hope this doesn't continue in to the second round. Not sure my heart can take it! Not sure who we are going to draw yet, have to wait to see who survives tonight.

BTW- I watched most of the Saturday Wings game, and I thought the Wings were playing well. But playing well, and keeping it out of the net are two different things. Have my TV set for catching Game 6 tonight.

:o :o :o ... wow. For those who didn't catch the hockey games last night. Detroit came out swinging, and played awesome going up 2-0, then came the 3rd period and well, Edmonton woke up. Detroit still brought their game, but didn't have an answer for the new energy. Final game score 4-3 Edmonton. Season ender for the Wings. Possibly the last time we all see Steve Yzerman on the ice.

In the other game...Anaheim is taking Calgary to Game 7, and it is likely that Edmonton will face the winner of that series. Definitely a game to watch. Can you imagine the chaos if it ends up being Calgary-Edmonton? Battle of Alberta indeed. Here's hoping...:thumb:

Horrible game last night dfrom my view. Wings came out looking great and then gave it away at the end. I would like to say the one goal that came off the high stick and was kicked at should not have counted but oh well. I was watching the FSN Detroit broadcast and was listening to how it should not count but then switched it over to OLN and they said it should count. I guess being a Wings fan I will stick to the should not have counted. However at the same time Jason Williams made a stupid penalty that let the Oilers back into it. Manny got rattled late and the Wings defense wasn't as spread out as the needed to be on the game winner.

I think we have seen the end of the career of "The Captain". he has given great service to the Wings over the years and didn't look too bad out there last night. Is this the end for Chelios as well? It will be interesting. While I love Stevie Y and Chelios, a move to the younger guys would help out come playoff time. Fresher legs cannot hurt.

I'll go with ya on that one, I thought it was kicked in too. Video wasn't conclusive enough for me to call it a clean "in". Although a no-goal call probably would have started a riot in Rexal Place...

My friend calls Stevie Y the "bionic man", and he said he shouldn't retire, just take the off season to re-tool. He also said he'd make a heck of a coach if he got the chance, especially in Detroit.

Well, Chelios has his off ice businesses to help him along, but I think he's probably feeling the milage too. He;s what, 40? With the new NHL, younger, speedier, and mobile is the call of the day. We'll know in August.

Think the Wings will go shopping in the off-season?

Oh I think the Red Wings will do some shopping this offseason. On a local radio program an insider with the Wings has said that Ken Holland had offered Manny Legace a I believe $4 million contract. Manny was wanting $5 million. After getting booted in the first round there is no way Manny will get that. Also According to this person Roberto Luongo is unhappy in Florida and wants out. They were thinking maybe we coul;d get Luongo up to playing in Hockeytown. I could go for that.

I think Stevie Y would be a great coach. That what he had sone this season really was being a coach on the ice. But he looked sharp out there Monday night. Maybe he has a year left in him still.

Carolina looked real impressive today. They took advantage of the power play. Cam Ward looked great in goal. Will Gerber ever see the ice again as a Hurricane? First loss for the Devils since late March. Brodeur did not look like Brodeur out there. Kind of reminded me of the 2002 playoffs when Detroit nailed Roy for all those goals. It just does not happen.

I'm thinking Marty had a really off night, but then the Canes were rocking. They have alot more speed upfront than the Devils have seen all season. (The Rangers sure weren't very speedy. ) I think they got caught off guard. It will be interesting to see how they respond in Game 2.

I was highly entertained by the Ottawa/Sabers game on Friday. (Sabers won 7-6 in OT ). That was speedy, high scoring, and fun to watch. Heck, every time I was going to get up and go get something from the other room, someone else would score! My husband is following the Sabers, so we're watching that series too.

Still moping on my Avs  ...0-2 in the second round and goals, they have to get it together and find a way to get past the Neidermeyers and Bryzgalhov (sp) who has his Goalie Foo (tm) on big time. If the Avs don't do it on home ice on Tuesday, I think we're probably done too. We'll see. We've been down two before and pulled it out.

As to Gerber, the Avs could probably use him next season.... :-?

I read on a Canucks board that there's going to be a sea of maroon in Denver for the playoffs. What a ripoff from the Sea of Red in Calgary. The only sea of maroon that's cool is at Grizzly football games. You ain't going to see that at Griz or Lady Griz basketball games though.

Sorry to hear you're leaving the game because of a single player incident that was well over a year ago. Bertuzzi isn't worth leaving the whole game for.

Frankly , even having been reinstated (which I personally think was a wrong decision by the NHL, but we can't do anything about that as fans) he was non-effective this year. I suspect he will be leaving Vancouver shortly and probably spending the rest of his life in Canadian civil court. He's gone they just haven't moved the body.

And you believe what you read on the 'Nucks board? <just kidding>
Must be the IN thing. As far as the Avs, I think their "avalanche of snow" is a heck of a lot more effective than dark jerseys in a dark arena. I've actually heard various versions of the "Sea of Red" since the Flames coined it back in 2003-2004. Heck, the Sharks are using the "Great Blue Sea" lately in some of their playoff telecasts. I suppose one could call it a form of flattery...

Frankly , Grizzly Maroon rocks in any forum. Football, Basketball, Hockey, you name it. :thumb:
