"Somebody else" is #183 :(

From the front page of umt.edu:

Defined by a prestigious faculty,
red-bricked architecture & expansive lawns,
the century-old school is often referred to as
the Harvard of the West.

I think this may refer to the look of the campus, not the academic prestige lol

I dont see a clear statement of what is being ranked on the site. What is being ranked? And how are these conlcusions reached? Polls or Stats without full disclosure is worthless.

Princeton Review ranks UM among best colleges
http://www.umt.edu/home/stories/?id=91

"We are especially gratified that this ranking results from our student body," said UM President George Dennison. "This recognizes the dedication of our faculty and staff to provide an outstanding educational experience at The University of Montana."

Only about 15 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges and two Canadian colleges made "The Best 371 Colleges" list.

Montana Tech of UM in Butte also was listed as one of the top colleges in the 2010 edition.

Hmmm? What's the best party school?

The problem is US News is the only one that people really care about.

As was said, Dennison doesn't care about that, but he does seem to really like the Princeton Review. Actually, I pretty much agree with you. Except I really care about the best party schools. That's a great honor.

Note that the Princeton Review is the "Best 371" colleges, which is "15%" of all U.S. colleges according to the article on the UM site. If Montana is ranked 191 in the U.S. News rankings, that means Montana is 191 out of 2,473 colleges. Still pretty good. However, Infoplease says in 2005 there were 4,140 colleges in the U.S. That would put UM in the top 5% of U.S. colleges.
