The Sports Network?

Seems The Sports Network is no longer a functioning site unless my computer and network aren't working. Anyone else having a problem since STATS took over?

"I think the Sports Network is no more and is being taken over by STATS."
Too bad they did a lot of good things for the FCS, awards etc that will be
hard to replace and missed.

Not any easy link yet to FCS, and CH has already changed his Twitter descriptor to reflect. Hopefully they get things fixed @ some point.

@CraigHaley: Sports Network FCS stories will appear on a new STATS FCS microsite beginning in August.

Even the website rats are jumping off the sinking FCS ship.

Just like ESPN, right?

One game, and if it's anything like last year, you won't even hear "FCS".

Look, it's cool we're playing in that game and all. But if you expect it to be much more than a 3 hour commercial for FBS games on the network, you'll likely be disappointed. FCS has always been a very, very distant second fiddle, and that gap gets wider and wider every year.

That is exactly why the powers to be in the FCS need to find another broadcaster for the FCS playoffs. There is Fox Sports, NBC Sports, and CBS Sports, all of which have their own tv networks. To be honest, after Thanksgiving, their programming is not very good, being the bowl games are on national tv, or ESPN for the most part. I'd watch FCS playoff any day over the bowl games. Until someone competes with ESPN as alternative option, ESPN has no reason to do better with the FCS coverage. FCS fans can thank the wonderful NCAA for this terrible coverage of FCS football.

Mtgrizrule....you can really thank the fans. On a national basis, there is little interest in FCS football as it is regarded as Division2.

July 9, 2015 – STATS LLC, the world’s leading sports technology, data and content company … which purchased The Sports Network (TSN) in February, will look to build on the momentum its acquisition has created for rich content in the FCS market. For almost three decades, TSN has served the FCS community with such staples as a pre- and postseason All-America team, weekly Top 25 poll, national players of the week, award watch lists and season-ending awards.

In addition, STATS is creating a dedicated FCS website featuring breaking news, real-time scores and other unique content that will combine the strengths of the company’s data, editorial and products expertise for players, coaches and fans. … To help build out its FCS coverage, STATS has brought on Phil Sokol, TSN’s former Director of Operations, and Craig Haley, the company’s former FCS Senior Editor.

… In the coming weeks, STATS will announce initial watch lists for its Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, details around its new FCS website and plans for its postseason awards. The company is scheduled to release its preseason Top 25 poll on Aug. 10, with the FCS Kickoff set for Saturday, Aug. 29 – when four-time defending champion North Dakota State takes on Montana.

Been skimming over the STATS.com web site. I'd say it's a better than even chance that getting anything more than headlines from those guys will require a subscription and cost you money.

Why then, do you suppose (and this is an honest question), ESPN hasn't tried to get some B5 teams to move THEIR game up a week to kick off the season? Why go to FCS level teams the past couple years? Seems kind of a wierd move...

I DO expect the coverage to be a 3 hour FBS commercial -- just like in the past. But I too have wondered why ESPN "drops down" to FCS rather than paying some mid-level FBS teams to kick off the season early. Seems most likely it's about the money -- they probably get the game so cheap, that even the FBS bottom-feeders won't bite.

It certainly doesn't look like a football media site

My guesses:

1). FBS teams have been reluctant to move their season start up a week.

2). While covering a "meaningful" FBS game, ESPN would feel the need to cover the actual action on the field.

3). ESPN is not willing to jeopardize their relationship with any FBS conference by not adequately covering one of their games. Can you imagine the shitstorm the Commissioner of, say, the MWC would have raised if their game had been covered the way the ewoo/Sammy game was last year?!?! He'd STILL be in Bristol cursing a blue streak. Meanwhile Foolerton sings Zippity Do Da out his asshole because he got a BSC team on an ESPN game few watched, and even fewer in the announcer's box commented on.
