I can't imagine a 64-team bracket... Maybe that's the only way WSU has a shot at the playoffs?

But if they're going to expand, I can see eventually 8, and then 16 down the road. But 64 teams? lol.

it would look like the fcs bracke with so many non deserving teams all over the place. In reality maybe 10 or fewer have a real shot

64 teams. Only six weeks to wade through them. What would be cut? Shorter season? Bowl Game$? Some NCAA officials stand to make a BIG pile of money from network lobbyists. Many a ox will get gored by this proposal. DOA.

He noted a 10 game season and the first round would be home-home

Yeah, 64 teams and Wazzu still wouldn't make it. Does he not realize it would take 6 weeks and a total of 63 (probably many money losing) games to get to a champion? The two finalists would have 17 or 18 games in their season. Silly.

Its a great idea and the cu*ts like Alabama wouldnt be able to dodge good teams and be voted in every year. If you want to be the best play the best and quit making excuses like the bitches on this site.

:coffee:

......like many on this board about body bag games or we think its good to play Ft. Lewis as a warm up game before we get in conference play....

How many years did it take to finally come up with this four team wonder the FBS has now. March Madness in December with 64. At least expanded playoffs is being discussed.

The best answer, IMHO, is 32 teams. Go back to an 11 game schedule, like it was 10 years ago, autobids to the 10 conferences, with 22 at large bids. Twenty of those bids would likely go to the P-5 conferences.

Fuck the bowl games.

What could stand in the way of any FBS playoff system? Any TV network(broadcast, satellite, whatever), organizers of the 44 bowl games planned for this year(includes the three current playoff games), city governments, Chamber if Commerce in each of the areas bowl games current exist in, hotels, restaurants, bars, an.d other businesses in those cities, airlines, charter bus lines, car rental outlets, and probably congressmen and senators from current bowl states. Not to mention the money each team and conference would lose. Add to the mix the big 5 conferences telling the NCAA what they will and will not do(or they will go off on their own, and sink the NCAA). Don't hold your breath on expanded playoffs. It's money vs integrity.

It sure is about money. The big chunk ESPN paid for the BCS playoff now looks like the best deal since the Dutch bought Manhattan for some glass beads. They made a ton of money. ... and so did the schools. The playoff games got huge ratings, so ESPN can (and will) charge more for commercial time, and cable access next year. You think they wouldn't like to have at least 4 more games (8 teams total) that drew so well? Of course they would. Here's an article that talks about the $$$ involved: http://espn.go.com/college-football...0-million-first-year-college-football-playoff

Now, admittedly, an eight-team playoff would take 4 more teams out of the bowl mix (although that might be fixable :) ). But here's something interesting from the article:

FBS members need to adopt new legislation this summer setting up safety nets to fill bowl spots if not enough teams reach eligibility, which generally means at least a .500 record.

The current NCAA safety-net bylaw runs out in August and includes provisions for allowing teams to participate in bowl games with two victories against FCS teams and during transition years.
Of course, there will also be some more new bowl games next year, which will need teams. But the point is, with some relaxation of the rules, they can still find enough teams to fill all the bowls -- even if four more of the best enter the playoff field. (My point about "fixable": Run the first round of the playoffs early enough and the losing teams could still fill bowl spots. "Have your cake and eat it too.")

I'm thinking year after next we're likely to see an 8-team BSC playoff field (which, BTW, I think is about right.)

64 teams huh?

Yeah then your playoffs would be over half as long as the regular season and the first 2 rounds would be 52-10 games...that sounds exciting.

16 would be plenty and then they could get rid of the 30 meaningless Bowl games which nobody gives a shit about.

Why not a 128 game playoff.........that would be fair and that would make all the cu*t libs happy.
"Be careful what you wish for."

If "they" (NCAA and the networks) thought there was money to be made with a 128-team field, that's what we'd get.

Another note from article posted above:

The report says to expect more bowls next season. The Cure Bowl in Orlando was approved last season but delayed its starting date. Little Rock, Arkansas, Tucson, Arizona, and Austin, Texas, are also hoping to be certified, which could make 43 postseason games that need 84 teams -- eight more than last season.
So there's not much thought about getting rid of games ... on the contrary. Crazy, but that's how it is.

BTW: I, personally, think 16 would be too many -- 8 looks pretty good to me. But then, I think there are way too many slots for the FCS playoffs. (Where I'm sure everyone hopes to get the Pioneer Football League automatic bid team in the first round. )

 SARCASM! Interesting concept, though. 256 TEAMS. FBS + FCS = 253 teams. Now, you pick division 2 teams. A true NATIONAL CHAMPION would emerge. Talk about body bag games! Leach must have been drinking or making a joke. Hyperbole city.

8 team with all power conference champions given a spot and giving the other 2 remaining spots to the 2 highest ranked independent and mid-major teams.
