Posted this in an old thread not realizing it was from 2012. Thought I'd start a new thread to update where theses guys are at and what their position battles look like going into the preseason.

Currently on rosters-

Jordan Tripp LB Mia Dolphins
-competing with 4 undrafted rookies and two vets for a starting pos and 2 to 3 back up spots. All four rookies are pretty good coming in so should be a good battle.

Dan Carpenter K Buf Bills
-job is his.

Tru Johnson CB StL Rams
-competing with last years rookie who made the pro bowl as a replacement player for other starting job. Jenkins has the #1 corner locked down. #2 should be Tru's to lose but he HAS to have a good camp still.

Chase Reynolds ST StL Rams
-stand out ST player(5th in leauge in st tackles last year). On roster bubble due to alot of new signees at other positions plus another veteran special teamer on the roster that can fill a defensive position. At least 3 to 4 RB's ahead of Chase on the RB depth chart.

Colt Anderson ST/S Ind Colts
-same boat as Chase but a little more of a back up roll at his natural position but the Colts are looking to better their depth at S. brought in two other safety's in the offseason to compete. Could mark the end of Colts stay with the Colts.

Brock Coyle LB Sea Seahawks
-back up spot locked up, not gonna crack the starting line up unless through injury.

Kroy Biermann hybrid DE/LB Atl Falcons
-battleing one person for starting "leo" position. Drafted Beasly in 1st round at Kroys DE spot so that's all but lost.

Marc Mariani KR/PR Chi Bears
-bears just signed return specialist from AFL Ari Rattlers. GM sees him more in a Wes Welker role so may not be competing with Mariani. Not sure why MM can't get looks at the slot position. Dosnt seem to really be givin' a chance at Tenn or Chi.

Jimmy Wilson SS SD Chargers
-lead candidate to replace last years departed starter but has good competion for it.

Zach Waggenmann LB Ari Cardinals
-probably gonna make practice squad after coming off non-football-injury list. Very bad timing for his injuries but I think Ari sees a reason to hold on to him.

William Pohels OG Ten Titans
-practice squad last year. Could scrap for a back up spot this year but a long up hill battle.

Danny Kistler OT Oak Raiders
-same as Pohels.

Ill keep this thread updated as stories come out of the NFL camps.

Tru's situation with the Rams wasn't helped by the strong showing by Gains last year. Both Jenkins and Tru have contracts expiring at the end of the season. Who would you keep? One will probably go....

Heard a report somewhere in the past few days that the Rams were working to extend Jenkins.

It's only day one in Dolphins Camp but Tripp is practicing on the 2nd team at weak-side linebacker and according to local beat reporters is going to be given every chance to compete. I'm confident he will earn a spot on the 53-man roster as a 2nd-team linebacker and emerge as an important young leader on special teams.

As a Seahawks fan, I will be watching Coyle closely again this year. The Seahawks aren't afraid to make any changes, so I wouldn't say his back-up spot is locked up. While Coyle is the natural MLB back-up, it seemed last year the coaching staff had more faith is moving K.J. Wright in the middle, especially when Coyle was banged up. I could possibly see the Seahawks going that direction this year if they feel another rookie LB could offer more versatility than Coyle. Brock has his work cut out for him (no different than any other back-up in the league), but he has an advantage of already being on the team compared to last year.

Makes sense. I like Tru but Jenkins could be All-World if he ever gets his head screwed on correctly.....

Jenkins is deffenetly their #1 big play guy but he's a gambler where Tru and Gaines aren't as athletic but more consistent. Tru's injury opened the door for Gaines but I think Tru is slightly better. Gaines would be better as the nickle and Jenkins and Tru as the 1 and 2. They are working on an extension and the Rams seem set on building a dominate D. I see em resigning Jenkins and Tru as long as Jenkins don't ask for too much.

Carpenter added to PUP list with no news why. Fans comments say no apperent injury and walking fine in street clothes. One reminds them that Bruce Smith was always "injured" in the preseason also.

When I was at Chambers Bay for the U.S. Open, I met and walked a b it of the course with a member of the Seahawks organization. Talked to him extensively about Brock. They absolutely love him in Seattle, but he was very honest with me that because of the roster moves they made, Coyle is by NO MEANS a lock to keep his spot on the 53. He used the phrase "uphill battle" when talking about Brock and training camp.

Jimmy Wilson actually is behind Jahleel Addae for the starting spot. He'll get his chances in the preseason though
Depends on which article you read. Espn is giving Wilson the nod.

Strong safety (Jimmy Wilson): The free-agent addition from the Miami Dolphins brings physicality and playmaking ability to secondary.
The one thing that might keep him from starting at SS is his versatility. His ability to play the slot corner could keep him moving all over the feild and that would open it up for Addae.

Tripp had a sack today runnin with the ones. Here's an interview with him.

Tru has been splitting time with Gaines on the 1st team also. Fans have mixed emitions who the starter should be including questioning Jenkins being locked in as the #1.

Officially off the injured list as he took part in the Cardinals camp today (practiced with the 3rd string group)

Good news. BR had an article of every teams best undrafted free agents and Arizonas was a DT from Northern Iowa who could be playing for a starting spot. I'd bet if Wags was healthy all year, it would have been a tuffer choice.

Spotted a familiar face in the Seahawks' training camp day 2 gallery

Some more note on Tripp and Tru. They seem to be getting the most coverage by their respective reporters.

Johnson showed up in better shape than he's been in any of his previous three seasons.

http://phinphanatic.com/2015/08/02/miami-dolphins-linebacker-battle-taking-shape/
Second year man Jordan Tripp made an impact on the third day of camp, flying to the football, flashing a couple of times blitzing the quarterback and popping running backs in the hole. He’s noticeably bigger and stronger; looking more comfortable by the day. He’s currently running second team behind Jelani Jenkins at the will backer spot, but has the potential to pair with Jenkins as the team’s nickel backers. His main role will be to serve as a leader of the special teams, but the overall improvement of his game has been noticed and Tripp acknowledges the development in his game

Some more notes from Rams camp on Chase and Tru.
http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/19958/jobs-up-for-grabs-as-rams-run-through-special-teams-practice
On Chase-
Reynolds is perhaps one of the more underrated players on the Rams, consistently making the team and then going about his business as a core special teams player. He was his usual, solid self on Monday but actually drew plenty of cheers from teammates when he stonewalled linebacker Korey Toomer in a one-on-one drill. Reynolds is listed at 6 feet, 205 pounds and Toomer is listed at 6-2, 234 pounds but the size difference didn't matter. Reynolds barely budged.
On Tru-
There was a little cornerback-on-cornerback crime during the "Compete" drill as Trumaine Johnson and Lamarcus Joyner mixed it up. Johnson, who is not afraid to chirp at an opponent or teammate, handled Joyner in a couple of matchups and spent a few moments after telling Joyner "you're too little." Joyner, who is about as tenacious as they come, immediately challenged Johnson to a rematch or two and told Johnson, "Let's go, we can go all day." Joyner fared better in subsequent matchups.

And Hawks released DT Tony McDaniel Sunday as a salary cap move directly resulting from the recent contract extensions for Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner...the guy BC has been playing behind. Here's to Brock showing his mettle and hopefully staying.
