New Turf

I heard that the new turf for the stadium was approved by the regents during their teleconference on Tuesday. Have yet to see anything in the Missoulian about it, go figure. Sounds like the big improvement will be some type of cork layer that sits on top of the ground up rubber that will significantly reduce the field temp.

I also heard your next Dave Dickinson clone star QB Willy Pflug got kicked off the team... true?

Man that is weak considering your all everything starting QB from last year transferred out for his senior year   And by the way, Willy did not get kicked off the team. He probably saw the writing on the wall once Gresch Jensen signed and left on his own.

Are they going to put it in then cut out a big piece in the middle of the field and replace with a slightly different color and type of turf? That's so cool........!

I love a Missoulian bashing as much as the next 2012-2013 eGriz torch and pitchfork bearer, but it was in this article from yesterday: http://missoulian.com/news/local/re...cle_5510bd99-ae5d-5087-b77b-73ccb42b939c.html

In other business, the regents unanimously approved a $500,000 request to put down new artificial turf at the Washington-Grizzly Stadium this year, one year ahead of schedule.

The company that will install the turf is already in Missoula working at Big Sky High School, said vice president of finance Mike Reid. FieldTurf offered to do the work this year but delay billing until 2017 and also increase the warranty to 10 years instead of the usual eight.

"The field is in need of replacement," Reid said. "It's reached its useful life and hasn't worn as well as hoped."

Athletic director Kent Haslam said the turf has become compacted and unsafe, and UM had planned to make repairs to the tune of at least $10,000 this year. He also said the funds will come from a scheduled game against the University of Washington, and not from state general funds.

and AJ tweeted it out the morning it was announced:

It was publicly described as a "cut" from the roster.

I don't know, maybe I was hoping that the Missoulian would actually put an article about a football field improvement in the sports section where you could actually find it, and not as a tag along to an article regarding student recruitment.

It seems to me that every time the Missoulian has something about the lower enrollment at U of M (example, article on paying a new vice president an upfront recruitment bonus of $70K to improve enrollment) they somehow manage to tie athletics to it. Especially considering that on Tuesday Kyle Sample wrote an article about Travis DeCuire getting a new three year contract from the same Regent meeting that was actually in the Sports section. It would have made way more sense to add it to that article.

This was in the Missoulian sports section the day the regents considered it:

Absolutely hit a homerun with that look! Fantastic!

The only thing I would change would be to get rid of the Big Sky logos.

Combined with the new displays, this really will elevate the visual experience of Washington-Grizzly stadium.

Also, hope the Big Sky logos both don't face the same way. The top right one will appear upside down to the crowd.

Love the 37. But I disagree with Yuk. I hope that's not the actual font. Yuck. Looks 3rd gradish to me.

Also heard that storage sheds in the endzone have been outlawed. Only Frontier Conference
Conference schools can have them. That sucks for Scats.
