The top of the rankings remained fixed since the top nine either won or were idle. But below that, things just got stirred up quite a bit.

Guess, Team, (Record), [Current Rank]
1 Sam Houston State (7-0) [1]
2 Jacksonville State (6-1) [2]
3 Eastern Washington (6-1) [3]
4 NDSU (6-1) [4]
5 Citadel (7-0) [5]
6 Richmond (7-1) [6]
7 SDSU (5-2) [7]
8 James Madison (6-1) [8]
9 Charleston Southern (4-2) [9]
10 Chattanooga (7-1) [11]
11 N Carolina A&T (6-1) [14]
12 Villanova (6-2) [16]
13 Coastal Carolina (5-2) [17]
14 Cal Poly (5-2) [17]
15 North Dakota (6-2) [19]
16 Montana (5-2) [10]
17 W Illinois (5-2) [12]
18 Central Arkansas (6-1) [20]
19 Youngstown St (5-2) [13]
20 Samford (6-1) [21]
21 Eastern Illinois (5-3) [14]
22 Grambling State (5-1) [22]
23 Stony Brook (5-2) [24]
24 Harvard (5-1) [NR]
25 Tennessee State (5-2) [25]

NR Albany (4-3) [23]

There were enough other losses by ranked teams to complicate where the Griz can be expected to drop. It helps that NAU, while they have been out of the top-25 for over a month, they are considered a good solid team, with a current winning streak. If the Lumberjacks had a winning record, they’d be back in the top-25, I believe. Anyway, I expect the pollsters to drop UM the “normal” amount rather than hitting them harder. And that puts them right in among a block of 2-loss teams, so it looks plausible.

On the other hand, I suspect the pollsters could punish Eastern Illinois for their lost even more than I did. It was close, but they were on their home field and Murray State is a really bad FCS team -- this was only their second win of the year.

Tennessee State played Vanderbilt pretty tough, so that loss may not hurt them. Still, Vandy is not a very good FBS team, so T-State could drop out of the top-25. If that happens, it would not shock me if the pollsters moved Northern Iowa back in, despite their losing record. I’m sure that’s what UNI had in mind when they ran up the score against Missouri State. (FYI: Although UNI led 34-7 at the half and 54-7 at the end of the third quarter, it looks like they kept their starting QB in all the way.)

A blowout loss to an unranked team will kill ranking. I think 15 is really generous. More like 19 to 20. It's gonna sting.
