Big loss for us Bobcats, especially on the recruiting front.

Looks like 3 of Wilcox's first 4 hires are out of the Big Sky. Or 3 of 5 if the Tuiasosopo rumors are true (QB coach from UW)

All recruiting and "shirt off" observations aside, the man can coach a secondary.

Are we sure?

8th in the league in passing defense. Granted this isn't the only mark and there are many factors one can look at, but it's a good start.

Per Alexander's twitter and two sources at Montana State

Montana State secondary coach Gerald Alexander hired to Justin Wilcox's staff at Cal

Yes I am sure. I watched a secondary for two straight years (2014-2015) play absolutely awful football (granted they did not have a pass rush either). This year we didn't have a pass rush once again but our secondary transformed into a unit that had some moxie. They played with better technique and they were held to a higher standard to see the field.

And if you want to play the "passing yards" game, here are some stats:

2015: Brady Gustafson - 23/39 for 353 yards with 4 TDs/1 INT
2016: Brady Gustafson - 16/31 for 192 yards with 1 TD/1 INT

So was the MSU secondary worst to first in one year under Alexander? Absolutely not. Were they improved? Abso-freakin-lutely. He also helped turn Bryson McCabe into a better overall safety as he will be one of the best ones in the league next season.

No doubt.

Significant improvement in both cover and tackling.

I can't recall one pass hitting a db in the back.

Curious to see if this affects your recruiting this late in the game with the California corners you guys have committed.

Might be wishful thinking but him leaving with only a week and a half left is a better scenario than him leaving in December. The commits have come together over the past three months. Jalen Cole and Tyrel Thomas were up on their official visit this past weekend and it went well. However, it would be fools gold to guarantee they won't leave because ridiculous things happen the final week before signing day. What you also hope for is that they don't de-commit during the 3-day "no contact" period before signing day.
