Rather than sideline the 40 time discussion, which is circling around Kupp and others I thought I'd just pull this discussion apart. Seems like mixed thoughts on Kupp's showing.

Crazy how mixed the impressions are. All one has to do is watch a highlight reel of his 4 years at EWU and you'll know exactly how impressive this dude is.

The main consensus "knocks" on Cooper is that the majority of his production came out of the slot, he struggles to separate at the LOS, and his comps don't translate to other outside receivers in the NFL so analysts wonder how people can say he is going to produce as an outside wide receiver without any data to back it up. Most of them think he will only be successful in the slot with created space (where he excelled the most in college) so he is a "one-trick" pony I guess. What I don't like about those "knocks" is that they include that one main stereotype with FCS players....lack of elite competition (which I think is horseshit). When people bring up the Washington State, Oregon, and Washington games, the analysts just say that Kupp was never matched up with their best corner (for example, when they played Washington, Kupp never went up against Marcus Peters supposedly). But with that same comparison, they fail to mention that Cooper was only a sophomore that year and still went off. Let's just put it this way, the amount of pre-draft "group-think" that goes on between analysts never stops and it can start with them loving a player to completely changing their opinion just before the draft.

Personally, I think he's going to produce wherever he lines up because he can adapt to any WR position and his attention to detail won't just suddenly get worse. And one thing will always hold true when evaluating prospects: trust the f***ing tape!

Yep Kupp is a winner. He is smart, runs great routes and catches everything. He has done so for 4 years. He is professional off the field as well. He is exactly what NFl teams should be looking for. The only way he isnt successful in the NFL is if he isnt given a reasonable chance because his "measurables" arent amazing or he doesnt fit the accepted mold.

I sure hope his fate in the NFL is better than that of his old teammate Kaufman. Kupp has impressed me every year he played, five I believe?

I have two words for those not impressed with Kupp's speed, jumping or strength.:

STEVE LARGENT!!

(There are others who were too slow, couldn't jump or weren't strong enough, but Largest was the first to come to mind).

Ohhhh, we are doing the old comparing a white receiver to other white receivers, regardless of skillset, just cuz they are white thingy? Cool.

I’d then throw Don Maynard out for discussion……..

Great route running > agility & quickness > straight line speed

Hands > timing > body control > vertical

What always impressed me with Kupp were his skills as a receiver. I don't think anyone could argue that he was the most athletic WR we've seen in the BSC, but you can make a strong argument that he was the best and most skilled. Probably didn't help his chances in getting drafted those first couple rounds, but a NFL team will be very happy they drafted him.

I'm thinkin' that straightaway dash time comparisons are overrated unless a guy is slower than a draft horse. When it comes to running routes, snagging the ball and knowing what to do with it is a more accurate gauge of a players value. That's Cooper Kupp in spades. The Dawgs' John Ross runs a record 4.22 40-yarder versus Kupp's 4.62 - that's less than a half second difference. BFD! Looking at Ross as the Combine's golden boy I would pay more attention to his ability to stay healthy and on the field.

Wonder what the comparisons with Kupp and Rice in college..route running, hands, blocking, and making adjustments...

belechik has his eyes on kupp...he will be a NFL great..the kid is consistent and has a great work ethic! I
know they say he doesn't have any athletic skills too...what BS...either did Edelman..

Words right outa my mouth. I was going to throw out Gary Garrison or The Lances, Alworth & Rentzel. Luv me some Joey Heatherton.

Wondering how many folks took the time to look up Joey? Or maybe the guys. Never mind.

Ps. Want to know why the combine measurables don't matter? Two words: Mike Mamula.

Rentzel's measurables weren't real good either according to Joey and the few young girls that know.....
