The players loved him.

They’ve got to be feeling pretty low and/or pissed off right now.

I’m hoping they all stay, but I know that isn’t always in the cards.

Think about them before you revel in this firing too much. They surely aren’t.

Kent Haslam in his press conference said he was stopped by some players after he announced the decision asking him if it was something they personally did to lead to this. Many of the guys are really hurt about it. Was told the meeting was real tough to go through.

Going through this twice with Student athletes...sign on to the university not the coach as you do not know what tomorrow brings

They all felt they should’ve gone 10-1 this year, and I’m sure a lot of them feel like they let him down in those losses.

I’m excited for the future, but this is going to be the worst offseason we’ve had in a while.

Some of the players probably feel extremely betrayed right now. Case in point:

This is why I was expecting him to get another shot. Character development places high on my list for coach's responsibility. Got to win though too. Best of luck to Coach Stitt. Thank you for your contribution to these young men's lives.

This is why I totally despised 75. Because he knew a kid that was a bit sensitive and got his feelers hurt he had it out for Stitt and insisted he was terrible to the players. Couldn't have been any further from the truth. The sampling (tweets and such) you will see is just a small portion. He really did do the best he could for the players and wanted nothing more for them to succeed on and off the field, in and out of the classroom. Some would argue Bobby's approach and relationship with the kids was and (if hired) will be a different type of connection.

Most all of these kids are heartbroken to see Stitt not given at least one more year and that's understandable but as mentioned....it's a business.

I'm still not 100 percent convinced Bobby will be the new (old) guy. Lots of things to sort through and lots of things that could derail that idea.

..don't forget that Stitt got rid of half the team players when he came so l think he understands the
nature of the game..having said that l wish him well!

I have heard from people very close to the players that they didn't like him. Either way, I hope they all stay, but I understand if they feel they need to make a change. Best of luck to all in what really is a sad day for the players and coaches. Although we embrace the change, it is all because the team did not play well. Not a whole lot to be overly happy about.

Slow starts got the best of the team this year. I can see how the players would try and shoulder some responsibility but it’s not there fault. I think Stitt should have been given at least one more year to see if he could get his defense under control. It sounds like Haslam thought the same. I get the donor part and find it absolutely ridiculous that a donor pulls enough weight to be able to hire/fire with a threat. I hope that’s not true. Good luck in the future Coach.

If one thing is obvious in all of this, it's that the MAJORITY of players obviously love and care about Coach Stitt. So in spite of what many claim on here, that the players don't like him or won't run through a wall for him, you are full of shit. Oh and a big f*%K you to guys like UM75 and others who have been claiming that bullshit for a while now. You should be ashamed.

Unlike Montana State's preseason success, Montana really is going to be a top FCS team next season. The argument that UM will lose four seniors on the OL is meaningless because other schools lose them also and UM has some very decent backups..I wasn''t expecting a 7-4 season from this team after last year but now I think they have a very good of going undefeated or 9-1 next year. Hope I am still here to see it.

Finally decided there was no one post that captured my thoughts.

We can argue endlessly about his "football" approach, but Stitt clearly cared about "his" players, wanted the best for them ... and the messages show that they sensed it.

For whatever reasons, it didn't work out. Part of that was some rather grandiose expectations, given the imposed sanctions, key injuries, etc. But ... it didn't work out, and "coaches are hired to be fired." So be it.

You can talk all you want about how the players should "man up" about the situation ... "that's life." But they would not be human, and have very right, to be more than a little bit wary about whatever new coach comes in ... no matter what his reputation. Not that most will reject that person out of hand ... but I would definitely expect a "wait and see" attitude on their part. I'll let it go at that.

It's nice to see the positive tweets, but it is not true that all players liked him. Multiple players didn't. Older ones and younger ones. And at least some parents didn't either. A number will be glad to see him gone. Also, coach Stitt wasn't the type of coach who even spent much time talking to many of the players or getting to know them.

Sounds like he should have told them he was more concerned about saving his own job.

Some of you heartless f**ks on this board should consider if this was your family on Thanksgiving.
