GREAT hire! Anytime you can get a guy who has been a DI head coach, it's a huge plus. Some coaches won't hire former head guys due to ego issues, different philosophies, etc. Tinks understands he doesn't have all the answers, and that two minds are greater than one. I really respect that about him.

I agree that this is a great hire, but part of me wonders if Rupp agreed to take this job with the understanding that he would soon become head coach (if/when Tinkle moves on).

Rupp is a solid coach and did a good job here at Utah. When Majerus had heart surgury he ran the team and was well liked by the players. This is a very good get for the griz. The griz basketball program is starting to get noticed on the bigger stage. Now get more fans to attend. Do away with that winter session where for the most part there are no students for about a month that should bring some more fans to the game.

Well, if that is the case, I like it..if not, UM still hit the jackpot....more than likely this guy will help raise the visibility of Montana nationally with his connections to Hawaii and elsewhere, he might just be the one to get UM those coveted invites to holiday tourney games that Tinks wishes we could have again.....this is a win win...refreshingly so.

I seriously doubt it. First of all, there is no AD in place and that in and of itself is enough to know that no deal was made with Rupp. When Tinks leaves a lot of his staff will follow suit. He may end up a candidate, but there was no "deal" for him to come here. Let's face it, he was a HC that got canned, just like Bill Evans was and Tinkle looks to have made another good hire.

Rupp was not Tinkles 1st choice, he had another former HC lined up to take Evans spot back in March, but all the drama inside the UM's AD he was unable to get him approved for hire by UM's administration because of well publicized past issues

Nice pick up by Tinkle. Rupp is a great guy. I had a couple of buddies play for him when he was the head coach at East High in SLC.

Whether he is a good hire or not will be determined through time. Evans proved to be a great hire. Rupp has big shoes to fill.
