Refreshing Conversation

Postby AZGrizFan » Tue May 22, 2012 3:26 pm

Wow, it's nice to come to a forum and actually talk about the SPORT. This forum has renewed my faith in egriz!

What a refreshing change from the crap in the football board right now.

Yep, the BB board has always been much more civil. I just wish it was a little more active.

i was listening to a giants baseball game the other day. the griz are my main love, but every year i get hooked into the giants simply because of the announcers--jon miller (already in the hall of fame), mike krukow ("grab some pine, meat!"), and duane kuiper, a former player with a wry sense of humor and a great knowledge of the game. and then i realized that every great franchise has around it an equally great talker, a vin sculley, a harry caray, a mel allen--a famous shill, really. and then i thought about our football board, because in a way, we have exactly that guy in brint wahlberg. a guy who is passionate about the team, knows the game and the players, and conveys that enthusiasm on a near daily basi-- exactly what we're missing on this board. grizrule would qualify if he lived in missoula and was close to the team and the inside buzz, and mslacat is certainly savvy and well-connected, just not a griz fan. so we've got nobody to shill for this team from up close, and nobody within the program who seems willing to play that role. hell, from within the program, we can't even get an updated roster, a blog, an interview with any of the staff-- nuttin' honey. so we check in from afar, occasionally post a tidbit of information or random gossip, and that's it. singles hitters, no slugger to carry the board. until we find that person, our own mel kiper, this board will continue to languish. too bad too, because a lively board would be a huge aid to our basketball program.

Good post, citay!

We gotta start recruiting for just such a position. What happened to that kid who was Kramerica's intern on Seinfeld? He'd be perfect. Somebody look him up, pronto!

Thanks for the respect Citay. Sorry, I moved to Denver. I have been begging people to take over for me, since leaving. Believe it or not, I miss giving the reports of scrimmages, open gyms, and experience GRIZ basketball every free moment I got. When I do get back, I do make it a point to visit Wayne, and always make the basketball office a stop.

When I do get back full time. I will be back at it, with every free moment I will have. I have an idea how about convincing them to give me a behind the scenes job, that would do it for me. :)

Right there with you on this, AZGriz. Egriz hoops forum is civil and on-task. Egriz football forum...isn't.

Citay - Both Krukow and Kuiper are Giants players I remember when I was a kid in the Bay Area in the early 80s. The first baseball game I ever attended @ Candlestick formed a lasting impression with multiple fist fights and beers thrown in our section between Giants and Dodgers fans. I remember an early season (April?) game @ Candlestick with temps in the high 40s, a steady gale force off of the bay and high humidity leading my dad to say he wished he could go back to Montana to warm up. AT&T Park is a definite step up.

It would be nice if there were more than 30 real basketball fans. It gets old seeing 7/8th of this board activity shoot up only when we go to the tournament. But yes this forum is a gazillion times better than the football forum :)

I don't miss anything Griz BB. I read everything in this forum and attend most games. I just don't post often.

Reminds me of the time when George Bush Jr. sent our troops into Iraq. A couple of his presidential aids came into his office one day and stated that three Brazillians were killed in today's action. Upon hearing this Bush Jr. got all depressed and moaned and nearly threw a temper tantrum; then he checked himself and asked..."just how many is a bra-zillion?"

Sounds better when one's telling it, but what the H.

Love Griz bball as much as football and don't miss any news in the forum. Really wish I was in Missoula to catch more games but it doesn't work. In fact, I had to watch all games on the internet this year and enjoyed every minute of them.

Big Sky Tv finally got it right, this past year. No complaints from me this year. :thumb:

Maybe to get this board to blow up we need a couple star basketball players to go out and rape and pillage the locals...

I agree...Big Sky TV has been getting better each year. I have learned to enjoy the two young announcers at UM games. Their enthusiasm is great, and, while they are "homers", not obnoxiously so. The guy at Weber State is beyond help, while the NAU announcer is one of the best I have ever heard in college sports.

I agree with you LA. Big Sky TV has improved significantly since it was first introduced, and since it is a free service from the conference, is pretty good. Karl, yes, can be quite the Homer, but since I'm a Weber State fan, I love it. But I don't think he is the worst. That has to be reserved for the Northern Colorado guy. He is unreal, and the MSU beat isn't far behind. I'd say Karl is the fourth worst homer in the conference (The Eastern guy is just plain bad). UM's guy are pretty homerish, but can be subjective at times. Mitch, at NAU, he is the best. The funnies is the Sac dude. He would say things like, "well, that makes sense, this is Sac St basketball afterall" and "wow, the hornets finally found the bottom of the bucket, good to see they won't give up."

Bigskytv is great. Call me nuts but I think it opens up Big Sky conference coverage to dedicated fans more so than a Root TV package does. I can travel and be away from tv/satellite coverage and still follow the games on a computer or phone. That wouldn't be the case if coverage was strictly relegated to Root TV. I am generally impressed with the quality I see in the NAU events. Sometimes...not so much with picture/video quality at other schools but lacking coverage is better than no coverage at all.

Bingo! I have seen more Griz Bball in the past 3 years, thanks to Big Sky TV, than all my previous years combined. In fact, the fun part of all this is getting to switch to other conference games to compare them to the Griz and this year, there was no doubt, having seen all of the BSC teams playing others, just who would dominate in the end. As the quality of tv gets better, is it a coincidence that the quality of play gets better? hmmm..

Perhaps true.

But the Root deal will open up BSC coverage to many, many more recruits.

the problem with ci-tay (he currently has a spelling problem) and sunny is that they remember when preE-griz, aka the ugmb, was more of a modern art museum than it was a zoo.
