Any Rumors of Signees for Next Week

National letter of intent date for basketball is next Wednesday April 11th I think. It seems to be very quiet about potential recruits. I suppose that should heat up now that the final four is over. What has anyone been hearing?

I assumje there will be signings, but wouldn't it be interesting to not have any juco transfers and then simply watch the young kids develop. Reader and Weisner are capable of stepping up as are the freshmen who all got a bit of playing time this year. They are all talented enough to make us more than competitive.

I am pretty excited to see how both Weisner and Deshields develop this summer. I think both are set to have good seasons next year, particularly Weisner. I would think that Weisner will be a starter right off the bat next season.

Oh, but no, no signee info. Sorry.

I believe there are two available scholarships assuming none of the current players or incoming recruits are leaving. Wayne has already signed two recruits. I also suspect there will be at least one post signed and possibly a JC. The Griz are super thin at the post with the departure of Derek and Art.

Anybody have an opinion about whether Jake Wiley will be ready to make a contribution as a true frosh, or if he'll need some time to develop?

Got this off the following blog. I know he posts around here, but can't recall his username. If the comment is accurate, it will be fun to see how he works out. I think some of the same things were said about Autry, too, and we know how that turned out:

http://www.bigskybball.com/2012/01/future-montana-grizzly-jake-wiley.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"I do a lot of 1 on 1 work With Jake helping him develop his game as well as his physical abilities and athleticism. He is an extremely hard worker and never stops playing basketball or working out. No matter what he is always hungry for more. He is working hard on his range as well. He is a special kid with a natural talent. The University of Montana is getting a steal on this guy. He is way under the radar and has incredible potential. He gets better everyday and it is a privilege to work with him. Montana just acquired a great competitor and a great basketball player."

Not even any rumors of anyone visiting. I wonder if the recruiting has been slow this spring or if we are just clueless. This is when we need the mslacat! He seems to be the only guy that knows this stuff.

Not sure about signings but i do believe Edrico Mcgregor is going to visit or already has. 6'8" pf/c from north idaho jc rated 61st overall player on jucojunction. Were interested in his teammate rafiel guthrie but he has committed to towson.

I would not be too surprised if we hold off any offers in the near future. There are, and will be more defectors at the end of the school year. There will be some pretty solid transfers available. I honestly don't see any returnees leaving the program. They all appeared happy, and encouraging each other all year.

Got to admit, after meeting Jordan Gregory's family, and girl friend, and seeing how close they all are, it has to be tough for him being away from such a great family, and girl. Collectively, they made a very good impression on me. It was nice to witness in person. After the games, in Co, I could see how happy he was to see them too. I doubt he leaves, but he would have very good understandable reasons for transferring back closer to home. That is a family, and player, I will root for no matter what.

With that said, "Here is to hoping, Jordan Gregory is a GRIZ for all his college career."

Is there any chance that Shawn Reid would like to move closer to home? He is a proven player!

Forward Shawn Reid of Post Falls, Idaho tells the Bozeman Daily Chronicle he asked for and was granted his release from the program. He will leave the school at the end of the spring semester.

Reid says neither his role nor the team's 23-35 record over the past two seasons were primary factors in his decision. He averaged 10.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in earning honorable mention all-Big Sky Conference honors this winter.

He says the decision was "more just based on my happiness." He says he's looking for another school where he can play basketball.

What I hear is Seattle Pacific. He wants to be in a bigger city, said he really is not into the outdoors.

Man, that sucks for the sCats. The blows just keep coming. It would be one thing if all they were losing were non-contributors.

Losing Reid really sucks for the Cats. He is a good player, but even if he were interested in the GRIZ, we do not need another perimeter SG/SF combo. I would take another one, if it were a big time player though. The GRIZ really need to focus their remaining pickups on a glass eating post defender, with some offense. Losing Stewards post play on other small forwards needs to be replaced. Defensively, Selvig made a difference in the paint.

I am praying Reader gets his grades in check, and Hutchison finds some hands. Reader has tons of talent, and Hutchison can be a very solid contributor, especially on the glass. Ward and Weisner are too small to be consistent in the paint, but I do love their games. I like the size, and fluidity of Martin, but it is hard for a young big to be a major contributor from the get go.

I am hoping, and praying, Tinkle has a few hidden aces up his sleeve for bigs, in the offseason. At least pitch the kid from UConn. I doubt he knows much about Montana, but it never hurts to send out a flyer. Anyone know if he has announced where he is transferring to, yet?

Would be no help for us this year, he would have to sit a year if I recall.

Oriaki is looking at transferring to schools such as UNC, Duke, Kentucky, etc. I'm pretty confident that Montana is not an option...haha. He also doesn't have to sit out a year because of UConn's postseason ban for next year.......in essence all their players get a free pass to transfer if they want and play right away.

My ideal scenerio would be to sign this McGregor kid or someone like him and give the other remaining scholarship to Emerson.
I think the backcourt would be fine with one of the younger kids filling that open spot. With a very good and experienced duo already back there, some inexperience could be overcome. I am not nearly as high on Weisner as some of you, so I personally would pencil Henderson into that spot and not worry about it.

I'm on board with your thoughts on Emerson. I wonder if we don't give his a scholly, if someone else (Evans/ISU?) might.
