Cherry article

Love this article. Thanks for posting.

Sounds like I was pretty accurate about Cherry being driven by Lilliard. Also, nice to read, Will knows he needs to become a better playmaker. Then again, what do I know, about basketball? Granted, his NBA shot is a year away. He knows what he knows to do, to make that a reality.

Will, GRIZNATION is pulling for you, well except maybe one certain egrizzer, that feels you are not NBA caliber. This article has me even more stoked for basketball season.

Aside from the fact that Lillard is a better scorer, I also noticed that he seems to stay very calm, cool, and collected throughout the course of a game while Cherry is subject to more emotional highs and lows throughout the game. The emotional highs are inspiring and display his leadership, but when things aren't going his way and he's frustrated, his body language really shows it. I think he'll mature and be more consistent next year.

DDS, first off, why am I so afraid of you??

Second, your assessment on Cherry is spot on. He needs to keep the highs, and sans the lows. Obviously easier said than done. Which is why sports psychology is a profession in itself.

... Cherry returned home from his visit and told his mom soon afterward that he wanted to commit to Montana. She encouraged him to sleep on the decision for a night, but the next morning they called Tinkle from the highway on the way to school to give him the good news. Word of Cherry's decision inspired puzzled looks from most of his friends. Many of them asked him where Montana was. "I was like, 'It's a state.' It's up north, by Idaho," Cherry said with a chuckle. "You won't believe how many times I got that question. Every time, I'd laugh and I'd look at them puzzled like, 'It's a state.' That was the most hilarious question I've ever been asked, and I got asked that over 50 times my senior year."

Leading up to the draft and on draft day, one question Lillard kept being asked was why he chose Weber St I loved his answers. He chose Weber because that's were he felt most comfortable and because they were the first to really recruit him. They were loyal to him throughout the recruiting process and were straight up with him. And he has never regretted his decision to choose Weber. Damian will forever be loved in Ogden. Best of luck to Will. Nothing would be better than seeing him and Damian battle it out in the NBA. Both are great kids and great representatives of the conference.

Always motivating to see a close friend and someone you competed against go top 10 in the draft. I hope he stays on scouts radar and has an amazing year for the Griz!

Why don't you stop trying to dis an individual who merely provides an accurate analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of a Montana player? You don't speak for me! I am pulling for Cherry to make the NBA just like all Griz fans, and think he is a great Big Sky player, and the best point guard we have had in many years. But I am also a realist, which you obviously have a problem with. It is nauseating that some Griz fans are incapable of critical analysis of Griz players without being labeled. Grow up, dude!

Did I say anyone's name? Amazing, how every analysis you give, you think is accurate. Your analysis is opinion, just as anyone's is. You call it being a realist, yet not one time have you ever gone out on a limb with an opinion of a GRIZ being able to make it in the NBA, or NFL. So, in my book, I believe you play it safe. Just once, old man, go out on the limb, in believing a Montana athlete has a chance to make it, before they get drafted.

You must honestly believe, Montana is not capable of producing NFL, and NBA players. Feel free to continue playing it safe. Even playing it safe, does not protect anyone from being wrong. If you are such an expert, why not start your own scouting, and analysis company on sports?

Rather it be Cherry, or another GRIZ, It is not the 1st time I have said someone has a chance at the next level. Granted, he is the 1st GRIZ basketball player, I have liked his chances, since I have been on egriz. Even Anthony Johnson, did not have me believing as much.

I am not here saying, Will Cherry is a sure fire NBA player. I just like his chances, and will not be surprised if he makes it. A few others, like his chances too, how dare anyone go against the mighty all knowing one's wisdom! Keep dreaming if you think all your crap you spew is accurate. Only accurate in your own mind, until it is proven one way, or the other.

Go back to sanitizing your fingers, God knows, they need it.

i remember during all the "move up" talk on the football board just how many members were derisive of the idea because it meant montana kids couldn't compete at a higher level. oh, the white-knuckle worry-warts anguished, woe is the poor montana kid! they're so second-rate! we'd have to import all outside kids! and without montana kids, montana football would wither and die!

imagine that as recently as 2008 grizrule had come on this board and calmly announced, "i believe six kids on this team will make it to the n.f.l. and they'll all be from montana!" oh, the idea! grizrule, get a grip! have you lost your mind! montana kids can't compete at division 1-a let alone the n.f.l.! reality baby!

of course, the world is full of inventions and success stories that defied conventional "reality," and six of those success stories are on n.f.l. rosters right now. i for one am in grizrule's camp. i just can't bet against will cherry, no matter the odds.

Just for the record, dudess, I "went out on a limb" many times with football players, correctly predicting that Chris Snyder would NOT make the NFL, and that Carpenter WOULD make the NFL. I also predicted that Tru would end up at Safety in the NFL, and just read an article that stated that the Rams were considering moving him to safety. I have also been correct in predicting the NFL prospects for several Griz O-linemen, the ones who would make it like Corey Proctor and Levi Horn, and the ones who would not make it like Thatcher Szalay et.al.

So, before you spew, get a clue. :?

Speaking of clueless spewing, Thatcher did make it in the NFL! ;)

B.S. He was on two teams practice squad, and suited up for a couple of games, but I don't think he ever played a down. That is not making it, dude!

g1, only goes by his own definitions. We would not have these kind of disputes here, if he would just learn to post his opinions, without telling others, with things like:
(1)someone is wrong (2) someone does not know what they are talking about (3)attempting to make himself look good/smart, yet in the same comment having messed up himself (see http://www.egriz.com/grizboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57647" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

I have a solution for all this. Just have him leave, permanently. :thumb:

Glad to see Growler1 is back. There was no way anyone else was going to pick up the slack in his absence... Who else is wrong as much as he is? No one can even compete with him on that! Once NFL season starts, I may have to ask Growler for his opinions on the games, and just pick the opposite each time. I'd be a millionaire and could get a bigger double-wide by the end of the 2nd week! ;)

Seriously though, I think a lot of us were worried about you Stevie... there were rumors floating around that you couldn't type in your username and password anymore to log in since you got your hands..um...stuck... :o

Thanks for the link! Cherry has shown such huge improvement especially in shooting. I don't think I've ever seen someone improve as drastically as he has over the past years. Going from shooting 17% from 3, and 54% from the FT line to hitting 37% of your 3s and 78% of your FTs is pretty damn good!

Just in conference last year he was at 82.6% from the FT line and 41.1% from 3. His Freshman year he was at 11.8% from 3, and about 60% from the FT line. Quite the improvement!
