Yeah, 'cause another 20 win season with a trip to the Dance and a competitive game against UGA sure sucks for a low mid-major....

Didn't hear anyone scream depotism with Doug Selvig played for the men's basketball team back in the early 80s; nor when Derek Selvig played for the Griz, either, just recently. I can understand it if the citation is in response to players that don't deserve to be on the team, but I don't see it in this case; nor any others, for that matter.

I doubt we would have heard it had Jos decided to stay home, either. :thumb:

Betch....I think you already know....

That doesn't say anything to anyone. Just an unsubstantiated rant without any backup; feigning knowhow by implying..."you already know." Just a misdirection to avoid a direct answer; which can't be delivered, evidently.

Gotta go with Wyoming.....I have no idea what Spanky is referring to. Multisylible words like "nepotism" should be defined when used on a sport message board in order for the readers to understand what the poster is trying to get across. If Spanky is referring to the hiring of Wayne Tinkle then I, for one, don't see the problem. If he is referring to somebody else, or something else then perhaps Spanky should enlighten us, but please remember Spanky, this is a basketball forum.

I have no idea what Spanky is referring to. It I recall correctly, a few years ago, he or another poster got on a "not enough African Americans" recruited by the Lady GRIZ. This is the only thing I can even vaguely begin to think he is hinting again. Either way, please enlighten us, Spanky. You really have thrown a curve ball here.

Gentlemen....please look up the definition of nepotism, then review the relationship of, at least, two of the players to the lady Griz head coach. No, Mtgrizrule, that wasn't me a couple of years ago...

So are you saying that Jordan S. and Carly S. are not "Lady Griz quality" players and that they are only on the team because they are the head coach's nieces?

Lady Griz...not a good definition of nepotism...both players would have been recruited regardless.

Betch...when a coach gives his relatives full ride scholarships to play on a team he coaches, that is nepotism. It isn't a crime, but nepotism and I've seen it destroy organizations and businesses. Before you and others start in on me, allow me to state that I think Selvig is a good coach, but the practice of recruiting his relatives isn't good policy and shouldn't be allowed. If you disagree, to each his own.

No, I don't agree; for nepotism is defined, as you asked for a scan of the definition, as a "partiality" to family; not unlike cronyism but that refers to other instances of "partiality" as to friends, significant others or acquaintances. The "partiality" is the sticking point here in the defined item, I believe, all else considered equal I don't see and/or ascertain in this particular instance such an item for debate, though open for discussion, I assume. Besides which, it's a rather difficult and/or a little bit late on this aren't we?..when the subject comes up when one is a senior to be and the other a junior? When they were directly recruited right out of high school would have been the ideal time, wouldn't you think?

But besides that, all things considered equal I don't see the "partiality" stigma applied unless you perceive that either player, or both, haven't been viable in their playing careers insofar as delivering quality performances. I could see the "partiality" if and only if both, or one for that matter, player rode the pine so to speak and only got into games in the last couple minutes or so just to make it look good. This especially throughout a four year eligibility. Then comes the "partiality" stigma. But that hasn't been the case, now has it?

One question in response, though. Would "Spanky" consider it "nepotism" that a Head Coach of a men's basketball team recruited his youngest son? Even if that youngest son was declared Mr Indiana Basketball and a Gatorade Player of the Year? As such was the case at Valparaiso when the Head coach Homer Drew recruited his youngest son Bryce Drew. Would that be a case of nepotism, not unlike cronyism?..with the "partiality" aspect of the defintion included.

To me, a cry of nepotism, with that "partiality" aspect of the definition, is as in throwing up a red flag and crying Foul is like saying that a coach recruited a player..."even if that player happens to be the worst player on the planet, just because..." This reminiscent of a local variety as in a Robin-Potera-Haskins testifying that she was pressured by MSU Athletic Director Peter Fields in having his daughter on the MSU women's basketball team, though she came from a Div. II school and wasn't deemed quality personnel enough for a Div. I School (supposedly) < http://www.zoominfo.com/#!search/profile/person?personId=64017150&targetid=profile" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (fourth to last paragraph).
