Skyline Sports - Montana men's basketball 2016

We will have a larger, more detailed explanation later but for now....Kyle Sample is still your go-to beat writer for Montana Grizzlies' men's hoops. He will also be helping with football coverage from Saturday's Montana-Southern Utah game and will be covering football extensively going forward until hoops gets into the full swing of things. For those of you that don't know, Kyle and I grew up together and have been the best of friends for years and years. I hired him when I was the sports editor at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle and we have shared a passion for sports, journalism and the Big Sky Conference for most of our lives. He has been integral at advising and scrutinizing and helping conceive the idea of an online platform that provides comprehensive coverage of Big Sky athletics. Incredibly happy to have him contributing to our project.

I've been an ardent reader & thus a fan of Kyle Sample's outstanding basketball coverage for the past few years. It's great to anticipate his continued coverage of Missoula events through Skyline Sports. No sour grapes here, but I can regularly read/view half a dozen articles weekly (and, yes... I read em all) on Big Sky football.

But what Sample has done with Griz hoops is significant: bringing renewed focus on a vital and emerging program (first under Wayne Tinkle) under the direction of Travis DeCuire. Great first article, Kyle. I look forward to reading many more.

Montana is hoping its future scheduling will provide the program a necessary stepping stone

Thank god. I heard he was no longer at the missoulian and thought to myself once again they had to ruin anything great about Griz sports. I am glad to hear he is still covering Griz Athletics

I feel a cliché coming on...yes!...."Success Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity."

Preparation: Exceptional recruiting; high-level physical training; great coaching.

Opportunity: Ambitious scheduling.

From the day he got to Missoula, DeCuire has been working these two paths. When they intersect: Success!

Here's an analogy.

You're sitting in the window seat of an airplane, with the sun on the opposite side. As you descend for landing you notice the plane's shadow, streaking along the ground, through the trees, over buildings and freeways, gradually getting larger and larger, closer and closer to the plane, until.....success!

Touchdown!

(Oops, bad analogy.)
