No need for any mini-recap from me; the goGriz coverage story on Montana's 2-game sweep over ISU is outstanding. The story lede says it all.

Montana's pitching battery is probably the best complete unit in the Big Sky & proved it again today. Its infield D is stellar and the game-one win-preserving play came from Griz center fielder Alex Wardlow (see clip below). If anyone wanted to chip at the Grizzly performance today... well, they did leave a lot of runners on base in game one.

A win over ISU tomorrow would set Montana up for a top-two confrontation next week at Ogden against Weber State.

Starting with Wardlow's clutch throw, here are three of the afternoon's highlights. Go Griz.

Idaho State beat the Grizzlies 5-3 in eight innings in the final game of the weekend. The loss dented Montana's already slim chances of hosting the Big Sky tourney. To do so, they'll have to sweep all three games from Weber State next weekend in Ogden.

Nonetheless, Montana secured a first-round bye in the six-team Big Sky Conference tourney. Next week's games will be a good measure of Montana's ability to make a run at the conference title in their third d1 season under coach Pinkerton. Go Griz.

Hopefully our pitching and D can give us a better outcome this year instead of relying on our bats like last year. In football they a say D wins championships. Let's hope that carries over to softball.

Merged this from another thread I started that upset some bball diehards.

Once again the 13-5 Griz find themselves needing a sweep of the 14-3 Weber State Wildcats to host the tourney. Only this year they have to do it on the road. Last year in Missoula the Griz took the first two games but let the third slip away and WSU went on to host and win the tourney earning the conference's auto bid. This years team is a much different team though relying on a league best pitching staff where last years team was all O. An intriguing side matchup will be between the top two candidates for BSC Fr of the Year in Michaela Hood and WSU RF'er Takesha Saltern. Hood is also in the running for Pitcher of the Year and Saltern is in running for league MVP. She leads the league in hits and triples. She's also 2nd in batting average, runs, and stolen bases.
